Yesterday we heard about the passing of Mario Polito, the son of Emilio, the owner of Tony's Beechhurst Deli. This news is so shocking and sad, first for his family and friends, as well as for all of us that shopped at this wonderful family business. Mario was such an amazingly warm, open and friendly man, always making his customers fell like they just walked into the home and kitchen of a close friend. His loss is devastating, and we can only imagine what his family is going through. He is survived by his father and mother, as well as his brothers Tommy and Angelo, and his wife Tania and his daughter 7 year old Gianna Marie. There has been a GoFundMe put in place to raise money on behalf of Mario's beloved daughter Gianna Marie. I will include the address below. Mario was one of a kind and will be missed by one and all, he was 44 years old. GoFundMe: gofund.me/67d2a6d1

I only found out today - I didn’t know Mario or was ever lucky to visit the deli but loved watching the Vice Munchies episode and Mario was my absolute favourite. May he rest in perfect peace.

@@Italblessings He was an absolutely incredible nice person, and such a bright light in that store. Always made you feel like a friend and no matter how long it may have been since your last visit to the store it felt like he had just seen you yesterday. He is definitely missed.

Ok, where do I begin? My great grandfather Tony Peluso, and my great grandmother Katie immigrated from Calabria, Italy. (I know, hard heads right?). In 1906, Tony was 16 years old when he first came over, he had 10 dollars in his pocket and I guess a dream. Not fully educated and unable to read or understand english, he jumped on a steamer ship to go to "Americe". As a younger man he had heard of many leaving home and heading to New York City, in "Americe". Well he did make it on the ship, but much to his surprise he was headed to the west coast, San Francisco. Ca. and he landed one day after the great earthquake of 1906. To his credit the moment he stepped off the ship he, and all the other young gentleman were rounded up and put to work by Pacific Gas and Electric to help in the rescue efforts and to help secure the town. He worked for them until he retired. I can still remember going to their house every Sunday for dinner. The house was filled with relatives, friends. My god, the food that came out of that kitchen. This is where I learned that you always take care of family first, and I don't mean just blood relatives, but anyone that was invited to have a privileged seat at that table. Being just a kid, it took many years to realize the valuable lessons were taught at that table You learned respect from those that gathered at that table, and you also learned what food really was, and still is, "love". I'm sure you know how emotional Italians can be, well, I guess some of that got passed down. When Tony was showing his pictures and memorabilia, the smile, the pride it was so evident. The tears are flowing, what beautiful memories! You two gave me a wonderful and unexpected Christmas gift. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, both. Wishing you good health and best wishes for the New Year. Have a wonderful Christmas !

Bob, thank you so much for sharing a big part of your family’s story. It means everything to us. Emilio was so gracious and we loved the history behind his success. Hearing about your memories made this video worth it. It doesn’t get any better then that. Your memories sound so familiar to us. That’s what comes from growing up in an Italian Family. Again, thank you so much for sharing ❤️ Merry Christmas to you and Family 🎁🎄☃️

Even though this was a food trip, and it ALL looked amazing, the interaction with Emilio was so heartwarming. 😍💖🥰 His information was interesting and familiar. I could see the joy and pride beaming from his face. And your interest in him put it there. You and Anthony were so engaged in what he was sharing, like listening to Grandpa reflecting on his life as everyone sat around the kitchen table. These are the things within families that are carried for a lifetime and passed down from generation to generation. You both always manage to get that 'something extra' in your videos to share with us. Oh, and the reviews of the food...can't forget how much we enjoy those, too!! 😁 Another terrific one, guys!! 🤗🤗

What a lovely, lovely man Emilio is. Such a hard-working guy… his wife, too. And his son was a stock boy there. Bless their hearts. Working hard and pursuing the American dream. That cappuccino ice looked SO good. Anything “cawfee” flavored works for me. The mozzarella and the roasted peppers looked fabulous, too. Everything looked great. Another great find. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

Thank you so much cak. this video holds a special spot for us, not only because we got to speak to Emilio about the history of this great family neighborhood shop, but because we lost his beloved son Mario such a short time after this was filmed. 😞 Mario is only glimpsed briefly in this video, but he was an amazing ray of light to all of us customers in the deli. He always had a smile and a joke, or a story. He passed suddenly without warning soon after the videos we shot there. Thank you so very much for watching and sharing this video which is one of our favorites. ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks so much for checking out this older video. This is a personal favorite. Wonderful people and great service and quality food. They still make one of the best fresh mozzarella’s we have ever had. The only one that may surpass theirs is Casa Della in The Bronx. ❤️

This was such a great tour of the deli. I felt like I was in someone's home. I love the places that treat everyone like they are guests in their home. That sandwich at the end is my jam, my ideal way to make a sandwich, 9/10 times. Never saw roasted peppers with raisins, I would definitely try that. Do you guys put vinegar on the sandwich?
@DanetteandAnthony
@DanetteandAnthony 2 жыл бұрын
You are so right, it was like we were in his home. That’s how we feel every time we step into the deli. We did not put vinegar, we did however drizzle a little Italian olive oil on the bread. Sometimes We do the mozzarella with tomato and basil on Italian Bread. Emilio’s wife Josephine makes all the hot dishes in the deli. This deli is truly a family business. We were there featuring the mozzarella because it is so good, just like Emilio said plain on its own. I agree. Thanks so much for watching Antonio 😁
