Some ideas I had for some of these unused type combos include: Bug/Dark: A praying mantis with a Grim Reaper motif Bug/Dragon: A standard three stage Bug line except the final stage becomes a dragon with butterfly features. Also based on a blue nawab butterfly which the caterpillar looks like a dragon Ground/Fighting: a cassowary Ground/Fairy: garden gnome Ghost/Rock: a gargoyle Ghost/Normal: something based on Schrodinger's cat Ice/Normal: a musk deer with icicle fangs That's all I have tbh

The name of the first stage even the taxology order (Dermaptera) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earwig BTW, I'm pretty disappointed that GF didn't used the galarian pokemon to explore even more the nem typings. Even more considering that most alolan variants were used with this purpose. Meowth, Corsola, Zigzagoon and Stunfisk could perfectly been used to Normal/Steel, Rock/Ghost, Normal/Poison and Steel/Poison with almost zero design changes. While they could have used the new Ponyta concept to do a Fira/Fairy pokemon.

The picture of the electric/fighting red panda has been saved on my phone for the last three years, genuinely one of the best designed fakemon out there, haven't been able to find the artist though, so glad you brought it up! Also I didn't realise Scythosor was based on a thanatotheristes degrootorum, I have a fossil fakemon based on the same thing! Though it's rock/dark instead. Love these kinds of videos and your integration with fakemon, especially recently, can't wait for the next Cardinal episode!

The thing is about newer Pokémon is that just about all of them focus on being distinctly relevant to the inspiration to the relevant region, so to consider what could be new Pokémon in the future, we have to consider the potential inspirations for that Pokémon in the region it would be in, rather than just making, for example, a bedsheet ghost, just because.

For Bug/Dark, a good bug to reference if made would be the assassin bug. It stalks its prey and kills them, but also adds their bodies to its body as well. looking it up also reveals that it's pretty downright terrifying to deal with.

Normal ghost would be a cool combo as it is immune to ghost, normal and fighting. I saw a fanart of a regional form Buneary that was normal ghost type, and it resembled a toy doll. It looked pretty cool.

The Bug type combinations seem almost too obvious that I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. Maybe the issue is that they're too obvious. A good pick for a Bug/Dark type would be a mosquito pokemon with a Dracula/vampire motif. Or maybe a plague doctor motif with a proboscis that resembles a syringe to emphasize mosquitoes passing on diseases. Bug/Dragon could obviously be a dragonfly pokemon. Either give Yanmega a Mega-evolution "Megayanmega" or create a new dragonfly pokemon. Some people refer to dragonflies as "diamond needles" or "devil's needle" so maybe something could be done there for inspiration

Molly_music band Immune to both Normal and Ghost and only weak to Dark. Gets STAB on Hyper Beam/Giga Impact + other good Normal Type Moves and most likely would have levitate giving it yet another immunity. Although it only has two resistances in Bug and Poison it would still be a deadly mon.

Cool, I had the same idea for a bedsheet ghost the instant you mentioned mixing Normal and Ghost typing. As for the Grass Fire typing, I would want for something more along the lines of some kind of Jack-O-Lanturn. I know we already have Pumpkaboo, but would love something that looks a lot more menacing, and can learn Ghost type moves in addition to Grass and Fire. Maybe even give it a unique ability that lets it get a stab bonus for it's Ghost moves without adding the Ghost weaknesses.

A good reasoning for why there has not been a bug/dark type yet could be cultural differences. Japan sees bugs as heroic in their culture and history, thus also further explaining why they are super-effective against "evil"/dark type.

If I were to make a bug/dark type I'd make it a parasite that preys on Deoxys. To fit the space theme I'd give it features that are undeniably xenomorphic. The Alien Franchise having a pokemon to represent it would be awesome and really well received imo

Bug/Dark really should've happened earlier w/ Accelgor, which also would have made it a more balanced counterpart to Escavalier. Funny you mention tiki masks and chili peppers for Grass/Fire, b/c Frikitiki and Scovalope are easily my two favorite mons from Uranium and Sage respectively, and Grember is looking to be my favorite from Cardinal. 6:42 this bug is based off a bug found in Chernobyl! It’s got red markings on its back that looks like a mask that’s actually an indicator of how radioactive the area is. They’re also likely based off deathwatch beetles which make tapping noises in walls which sound like heartbeats.

For Normal-Bug, I’d recommend Lockstin’s Pokémon idea. It uses the fact that Normal is often used as a stand-in for Sound (see Whismur line, Meloetta, Jigglypuff line, Hyper Voice, and Relic Song).

Re: mercury Pokemon: I've got an idea for one called Agcelerate. Since Ag is the symbol for silver, the name is literally quicksilver. So this is how you could get a mercury Pokemon that doesn't tread on Meltan/Melmetal's toes - as a speed Poison/Steel type, it would occupy a very different design space. Like how Ninetails and Thievul occupy very different spaces for "fox Pokemon" designs.

I think it's really cool how you are not only voicing your opinion on certain unused type combinations, but you are also showcasing several artists and their Unique Designs. I do not mean to make this comment as a call out to myself, but I have been in the process of making a Pokemon region for several months now. When Grubbin was first revealed and I Googled what kinds of insects come from grubs, one of them I found was an Assassin Beetle, which could be an Insect/Dark type easily. They'd have to tone down it making armor out of other dead insects somehow though.

There are a lot of poisonous metals the poison/steel one could reference, like lead, cadmium, or thallium. I think it’d be cool to have the reference to the element be referenced in the name, like “Cadmion”, “thailment”, or “plumboxic” (plumboxic, comes from the Latin name for lead “plumbum” and the word toxic)

Here’s some concept for these unused type combos Bug/dragon:perhaps based on the meganuera dragonfly which was the largest bug known It could also be a fossil Pokémon Normal/ghost:perhaps an opossum like the one by lockstin or the one you mention in the video Normal/ice:maybe a arctic wolf Pokémon with an evolution that could be ice/dark Fire/grass:chili pepper or the one you mention in the video Electric/fighting:perhaps a kangaroo mouse like it could be the pikachu clone of the generation it’s in Bug/dark:perhaps a spider or any bug that people find creepy Ice/poison:maybe a pathogen like Pokémon after all pathogens are known to be trapped in ice Poison/steel:mercury or some other concepts I am not thinking up right now Steel/normal:simple,a hedgehog Poison/normal:what about a slow loris I mean they look normal but they are poisonous Rock/normal:maybe based on a rock squirrel or based on sedimentary rocks(which are said to be maid of other rocks) Ghost/rock:a gravestone Pokémon Ground/fighting:a gorilla Pokémon Ground/fairy:like the one mention in the video Fire/fairy:likely a fire spirit,could be a legendary Fairy/fighting:maybe a jackaloupe Bug/normal:maybe a fly,since it’s a really normal bug

Given how many of the normal types are small fuzzy mammals, as well as how several normal types have hair or fur that are part of the gimmick of that pokemon, such as the Minccino Line, Dubwool, and Furfrou, a Bug/Normal could be an insect that has silk growing out of or coating it's body that it uses as "fur" to both withstand the elements, and protect itself.

i really think that the secret to creat normal/anything pokemon is to create a pokemon that looks normal but has some kind of characteristic that remember the secundary type, for example: normal/fire = a pokemon that looks normal type pokemon using a flaming thrower. normal/ghost = a pokemon that looks normal type but is possessed by a ghost. normal/water = a pokemon that looks normal type using a surfboard and a swim trunks.

I made an idea for a fire/fairy some time ago. It was a mixed attacking warrior-angel Pokemon with a flaming sword and flame powers. I based it heavily off Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade 2, with two signature solid attack moves called Burning Sword (Fire, physical, 90 power, high crit chance) and Sacred Arrow (Fairy, special, 90 power, flinch chance) which are Pyra and Mythras most iconic attacks.

I don't mind that you used a few ideas from your Pokemon Cardinal series (I do love that series), but in the future, if you're truly worried about showing bias... Whenever you use a Pokemon Cardinal design, show an alternative design by someone else; kind of like a Runner-Up.

For ghost and rock I would choose a small floating rock with ethereal arms and legs. It's evolution would have lots of rocks fused together by ghostly mist. The pokemon would be found in hoenn and its eyes would be made of the gemstone from the game you are playing

4:15 I haven't seen this fakemon before, but it resembles an angry version of a pseudo-legend that I've thought up a while ago. Yours looks great. The difference with mine is that it starts as a pure Grass, evolves into a Grass/Rock type that evolves at level 45 or 50 while knowing Incinerate, and finally becomes a bipedal, Grass/Fire-type Pokémon with a stat distribution resembling Infernape's so as to make it a fast attacker that can be run as physical, special, or mixed. My Grass/Fire type has two forms, though not activated by an ability: one where it is not ignited and the other when most of its body is ablaze. It yearns for battle with almost bloodlust, though not to the extent of aggressive Pokémon like Hydreigon. I could go on, but then this comment would be much longer than it already is.
