I watched your video and you said the Z 8 autofocus was not up to par so my question to you is what was your autofocus settings? Did you select AFC or AFF in video mode? What lens was your AF testing done with and were you in Auto or People AF?. I own and use the Z 8 for a lot of my clients work and I have not had any issues with the autofocus even in lowlight and so it’s surprising to watch you say it was bad.
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
I tried everything. I did an entire day of prep just to get the auto focus to work. because I wanted to shoot large chunks of the production on a shoulder mount and just rely on auto focus. but for proffesional stuff where autofocus has to be perfect it often missed in video.
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
also I used the 24-70 z series lens. and they gave me a few primes aswell. I tried a bunch of different settings but when it comes down to doing complex moves I didn’t feel confident
@AsuquoTravelsProductions5 ай бұрын
@@TechThroughTheLens Ok. But at what autofocus mode was the camera on? Because on Nikon if you want continuous autofocus you have to set the camera to AFF (Autofocus Full-time) and not AFC. You only use AFC when you are in Photo mode.

Just a tip on nikons wireless mode. At least this worked for me, and i have 0 issues now. Network menu; Connect to smart device; on Wifi connection; Wifi connection settings; Authentication/encryption; Select "open" Then save Since i switched to doing it this way, i have never lost the wifi connection while i was in range. Also in you phone (for my purpose samsung) when i connect i have to pick the option to stay connect even without internet. If i didnt do that it would work for a few moments and then perish. Yes, i know this way anyone nearby can connect to your camera without a password. But this is by far way better than anything else i have tried.

That is a really good tip. For the next one I definitely will keep this in mind. Other people connecting to the camera is not an issue . Thankyou for the tip

How does it do for nighttime filming in really low light? Is it as good as a Sony FX3?
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
Sadly no, Nothing else is as good as the fx3 . For the kind of camera this is I would say its about being able to shoot in dim lightning and get a clean image. Because 4000 iso in raw is really attractive and the image holds up really well and thats what i think is really attractive. But if you want a pure iso camera the fx3/ a7siii is better

Hi, and thank you for this video. I am looking to buy my first mirrorless camera, and I had my eye on a Nikon Z8 for video and a bit for photography. But I am not sure yet; I am still between Z8-Sony A7 IV or FX 3. I kind of hate that Fxe only shoots 4K and no 6K or 8K. I like to be able to crop when needed in post, but the cinematic image and the low light performance on Fx3 is amazing. Also, Fx3 and A7 IV are old, and new ones might come out soon. Can you help me with advice to be able to decide? Everyone I know says Nikon is bad in video and I should go for Sony, but your video about Nikon is very nice, and I consider getting it. I would really appreciate it if you could answer me to this. I am so confused.
@TechThroughTheLens2 ай бұрын
The nikon z8 destroys the fx3 and a7Iv in terms of specs such as resolution/ codec. The benefit of the fx3 is that its made like a cinema camera with video shooters in mind but the z8 is a hybrid camera. and the z8 autofocus isnt amazing. I would get the z8 if you plan on using it with cinema lenses and use it like a pro video camera. but if you wanna use autofocus or don't think you will need raw video or prores. Then the fx3 would be a better fit. The a7IV is also a great video camera because it downsampled its 4k from 7k. but thats the only thing i like about it. And there is most likely an updated a7V in the spring or summer or 2025

@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. It depends entirely on your budget. But you could get something really easy and affordable like the zve10 or a canon r50 . These are beginner cameras and easy to use. If you are serious about doing macro or super close up details of the plants you should look into macro lenses aswell
@edubb7865 ай бұрын
@@TechThroughTheLens thanks for your response! I would say right around that $500 area. And good affordable lenses you recommend? I’ve been watching a lot of your vids on the t7, r50 and r100 . I’m not going to be taking a lot of action shots or high action vids. More single portrait / scenery shots and real subtle videos.

Great job, but having used the Sony system and Nikon, my guess about the autofocus is that it takes time to learn, for example itbis not the best when you sometime underexpose or depends on the lens.

What is the cheapest point and shoot type of camera you can get as a beginner and still get a reasonably good camera? I feel like there is nothing below 500$ but that is a lot of money for something I just want to bring on my hikes to get some nice nature photos. And if I’m looking at used cameras, I don’t know what specific models to look for
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
I would pick up either a dji pocket osmo 3 or look into a used zve10 or canon r50. Hope this helps. Camera under 500$ isnt really a thing anymore unless you buy used. And until recently most used cameas were OLD as heck and were not worth buying

As a dedicated Nikon shooter for over 10 years I love Nikon for its photo image, but for some reason, I still don't like the video quality. The specs are great, but the image that comes out is underwhelming. I'll be sticking to my Panasonic equipment for all my video work.

Is z8 video quality is better than LUMIX s5 m2 ?
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
depends on what you mean by "quality". The z8 has a higher resolution, better codec and faster frame rates. It basically does more than the s5 iix . But the s5iix can shoot open gate which is technically better for anamorphic and social media. SO each camera has its ups and down.

Nikon z8 or z6iii for concerts and club videography?

Both would be great. The z8 is way more expensive but has a high megapixel senso which is a great tool for reframing. But both should give you excellent image quality and fast speeds. So whatever fits you budget

What I can tell, almost nobody knows, how to work with Z8 NRAW footage, actually nobody knows on youtube, even at Nikon, I guess, have no clue, how to properly edit it in Davinci. The latitude and color softness of z8 footage is much higher than you showed. I can prove it.

Z8 or r5ii?
@TechThroughTheLens5 ай бұрын
i think the nikon z8 because the biggest issue everyone has had is the canon video codec is a nightmare to deal with. But if you are doing photos the r5 is probabaly the better bet. But i know plenty of nikon shooters who prefer the z8 over anything canon. So it depends on you for photos. But for videos the z8 is wayyy better

Also canon made an announcement saying the r5 mk ii and r1 are going to be in short supply in the coming months due to a parts shortage. So it might taken 2 months or more to get one depending on where you live

@@TechThroughTheLens the R5C's codecs are actually really good. The r5 ii's are shit. Look for Josh Satin's comparisons. The R5C is quite a lot cleaner in the shadows than the Z8. The Canon cinema cameras do a really great job.
