I came across many youtubers recommending almost the same books in the non-fiction side of things but none of them genuinely caught my interest. But you explain it really well and I’m gonna read your suggestions. Thanks for that and subscribed!

I really enjoyed Hacking Darwin. You should check The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil if you are interested in more books that talk about the potential for anti-aging both through genetic engineering and nanotechnology and eventually robotics and AI. It is definitely tech optimistic, but worth reading for sure.

Solid rec, I have that sitting on my shelf at the moment and need to get to it soon. Most futurist I read from like David Wood and the London Futurist seem to reference him quite often and I am sad to say I haven't read a single work of his yet.

Lifespan is on my tbr from your recommendation and awesome to hear your thoughts on it here. Sounds right up my alley. Also, why Buddhism is true. @@LiveForeverorDieTrying Nice! The latest one- Lankavatara Sutra is a very difficult text but, the next one will be on the Dhammapada- perhaps the most accessible text in all of Buddhism
@LiveForeverorDieTrying4 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly the latest one on Lankavatara Sutra was one I felt I understood more than others. Maybe it's because I have been reading about panpsychism and universal consciousness but the idea of the god brain connected pretty well with those ideas, atleast for me

@derekofoma51203 жыл бұрын
@@LiveForeverorDieTrying I was looking for nonfiction particular focused on what I want to study after I finish my undergrad which is either gerontology/genetics. Even if I don't go to grad school, I'd like to read up on it. I'm also very into self-help and personal finance books.
@LiveForeverorDieTrying3 жыл бұрын
Oh fantastic, I think this will be a good match. In my Sept or Oct wrap up I will cover David Woods "The Abolition of Aging" which was fantastic despite the lame cover. Nov is a little slow on the gerontology front but I have a lot more for the rest of the year and start of 2021. Glad to have you here Derek!

Seems like you hang closer to the science part of nonfiction. I read more on the history side. I saw Sapiens being recommended a lot and supported as a good book in reviews and my reaction has always been...eeeeh, this could be the science version of Eat Pray Love. Overhyped and only liked by people who don't normally read nonfiction in the first place. Maybe I'm wrong. Didn't realize it was a series.

@american book dragon You would be correct that is currently the case. However, I have a lot of History, Memoir and Bio on my TBR that I would love to get around to as well. We shall see if we can get there soon. Sapiens was initially a mixed bag for me. In one of my very first videos I did not review it over the top favorable. However, as I read more anthropology and sociology more and more of it started ringing true and resonating. Specifically I think it is a great recommendation for a new comer to the genre bc it covers so much ground initially and can hold their interest. But yea I agree that if you are a long time NF reader, especially in this field, then you might not get as much value.

I'm afraid it's more of a tracking app than one that hosts books. But you can find the next book you want to read and it links you to multiple places to buy it, unfortunately all from Amazon though.

FYI - Buddhism is not a religion.
@LiveForeverorDieTrying4 жыл бұрын
Are we talking about core Buddhism as the philosophy? I would say many religions formed from Buddhism, and correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Tibetan Buddhism have deities and more "traditional" religious characteristics?
