That being said, whilst the news of a bunch of staff being laid off is a tough pill to swallow, the original creator and primary developer of Nova Launcher (Kevin Barry) is still working on Nova Launcher, and according to his recent post, he will continue to do so going forward. Great video! Hopefully Nova will at least retain its current functionality moving forward, since there's no real alternative with the same functionality. Question for you: are you using an S24+ for these shots, and are they all real shots (not renders)? Since I got a Pixel 7 Pro I've been disappointed that the top and bottom of the screen are "reserved" and launchers like Nova can't use them for widgets or icons. And there's always a bar indicator at the bottom which you can't turn off. On my previous phone (OnePlus 7 Pro) you could use the whole screen. I'm thinking about switching to Samsung and it looks like Nova can use the whole screen in these shots, but wanted to check. Not easy info to find online!

​@@GavinBiscuitsyes nova can use the whole screen on Samsung. I had it on my fold 4 as well as my pixel fold. Not sure why your phone isn't allowing the whole screen, maybe it's a dock issue you can turn off/on? Otherwise switch to Samsung. It works great on those.

@@mkltattoos Thanks. I didn't know if "reserving" the top and bottom of the screen was a broader trend, but it sucks. Getting a Pixel ironically felt like half-way to getting an iPhone from the limits they put on customization -- they also have a line at the bottom of the screen that you can't remove without rooting the phone (in the reserved area). Good to hear Samsung isn't going down that path. I'm planning to wait for the S25 series and will switch then.

When I tried to download one of the wallpapers mentioned here that was mentioned can be directly downloaded on the app, it's behind the app's paywall. But the app gives credit to the wallpaper creator from Reddit. Am I trying to download this wallpaper incorrectly ? Is the Reddit wallpaper creator getting kickback for having their artwork downloaded through this paywall ? I'm bit confused how this works. I must be doing something wrong.

Hello sam, thanks for all the cool content. I was wondering, i read something awhile back how there are some parts of the nova community that no longer liked the nova app after it was sold. That there were some changes in user data and such along with other less updates that felt it was falling behind since being bought out. What are your thoughts if any?

As a business owner myself, I've got no problem with it. At the end of the day, the owners of Nova Launcher are just trying to earn an income like you or me, along with balancing their life commitments, and there's no question that third party launchers have been a bit of a dying art form ever since Google stopped playing nice with them when gestural navigation was introduced. As such, we can't expect the developers to just be able to keep things going as they once were, and getting acquired by a larger corporation certainly takes a bunch of weight off their shoulders to generate income purely from people purchasing Nova Prime. If anything, the acquisition probably extended Nova's lifespan further than what it might have been otherwise. I also use countless amounts of apps that track user data, and there's still the option to turn those settings off if need be, so this doesn't concern me one bit. I know others disagree, and that's totally fine. All that to say, I've got no problems continuing to use it and I will continue to feature it on my channel unless Branch gets rid of the original creator/developer himself. Until then, expect to see more Nova Launcher content on my channel going forward 🙏🏻

@@sambeckman for sure i hear ya! thanks for the response! Wanted to also ask, ive been a fold user for about 3 years now and all my nova set ups have been on non folding phones. I have yet to use nova on the samsung galaxy fold, what are the chances you do a set of nova set ups on a folding phone?

@@mxl_31 Unfortunately the Palette interface isn't designed around foldable device form factors, and I can't really think of a way that we could make that work, unless we created a completely separate section of the app that was just for showcasing foldable setups. This would be quite involved to implement though. I think the demographic for customization enthusiasts who also use a foldable is too small at the moment to warrant us implementing such a big change. Sorry!

Find me a setup that "2024" offers that couldn't be tinkered with back in "2017," and maybe I'll consider comment worth a penny.
