I guess when it comes to Jabba, it needs to only do one thing, be able to at least articulate enough to sit in his iconic side on pose.

I mean, it's a toy tho, right? I'll inevitably find a reason to twist him into a pretzel. More articulation the better!

Yes! Disrespect that packaging! My favorite part of getting new figures... ripping open that bubble and getting the figure out!

Great video Scott! I agree with you on building the best palace using the tooled pillows and such. I too am a HUGE fan of Jabba's Palace and all the denizens. Great seeing you again.

@7:20, that Jabba looks constipated. This was a cool comparison video! Thanks, Scott!

I had a Jabba around the year 2000 when I was in my early 20s. I never used the slime but I seem to remember that you could fill him with slime and little creatures/shapes and squeeze him to make them ooze out of his mouth.

The 2002-2004 Saga version was my favorite childhood version, but I’m really liking the new TVC one.

Proudly have the black series Jabba and it’s just awesome. I unfortunately have no skill at making dioramas so it’s a bit of a bland display but it’s still a great fig

Jabba the Hutt is such an influential Star Wars character - Harvey Weinstein based his whole life around him!

If soft goods is a cheaper to produce solution to plastic, does that mean that on figures with half plastic half soft goods outfits, like, the TVC Tarkin from 2010-11, wich has a soft goods lower tunic, was done to save money? Or to make the legs easier to articulate? To me it seems strange they would cheap out on a small piece of plastic withe skirt. Also, did they use vinyl capes for early vintage figures before soft goods because it was cheaper or just out of stylistic reasons? Cheers!

Soft goods is cheaper than molded plastic if its plastic from a separate sprue, but could be more expensive than plastic included on the same sprue as the main product. Soft goods usually has higher labor costs (sewing/assembling) versus more plastic which increases tooling costs, so it depends. The Tarkin soft goods lower "skirt" likely had a higher cost of production than if it was molded. The 1978 vinyl capes were likely slightly less expensive than the soft goods capes/accessories that accompanied ROTJ figures. For example, soft goods was added to the 1978 Jawas to increase the perceived value of a smaller figure (also why vinyl cape Jawas are so valuable today).

Great video. They really cheaped out on 8d8. I don't know if I should get this as I got the old Walmart one. Does the Walmart dais fit in jabbas plaset?
@RetrocadePodcast27 күн бұрын
Yes, 2010 WalMart Jabba's tail is articulated, too.

The dias will not fit in the throne room. The Walmart one is slightly bigger. I tried lol.

I have a nostalgic soft spot for ugly ‘97 Special Edition Jabba, and I’m glad he made it into figure form

this stuff needs to be 90% cheaper.

Lucasfilm's (Disney's) licensing fee became too high and overseas labor costs went up, all while Hasbro wants to keep the same profit margin. Unfortunately these prices are here to stay
