I remember the first time travelling on those Class 450s was back 15 years ago and they were great because they were very punctual and reliable trains and very comfortable to travel on. They helped South West Trains's service reliability shoot up high once again. Nice Video mate!

The 450s always make 12 coaches long wow. Sometimes they use with the 444s to make 9 coaches combos most likely Weymouth.

These units are interesting. They have alot of power in their motors, but lack acceleration likely due to the insane amount of bulk they have..I.e a class 450 unit is around 170 tonnes compared to a 455 which is around 130 tonnes per unit I feel as though they could potentially be the fastest accelerating DC unit of the 2000s, if they were around a similar weight as a class 455, Or to compare to a more modern unit.. a class 707, which is arguably alot lighter per each of its carriages when compared to older EMUs like the 450.

They used to accelerate a lot faster, but they were drawing too much power from the 3rd rail so the software had to be updated to reduce acceleration.

not a great deal, the 350/1 were originally intended to by 450s (hence the shoes)

450 is a 350 with 444 motor, that's why they were called 450s

These train rarely run in west london now and I miss them :( dont know their exact timetable

They run on the lines towards feltham and ashford. They also do semi fast services going to Richmond. But they are more of an outer suburban train sadly. And also the acceleration rate of stopping and starting isnt the best, but to be fair..the 455s arent the best accelerators too. If their motors werent so old, it may have been a different story for the 455s though. That's probably why they use 707s for metro routes. Because their acceleration rate is crazy for a DC unit.

I used to live in Richmond and these were very common to see and it was amazing to, my rarest spot there was a double class 444 (diverted) and a triple class 450 which wasn’t diverted! It was amazing watching the triple class 450 at richmond

Can someone explain why they used to go " Weee wee wee wee wee wee!!!" straight away back in the day but now they get to about thirty mph before the sirens raise in pitch. Anyone care to explain?

They accelerated very fast back then but a result of this was they drew way too much power from the 3rd rail. The software had to be updated to reduce power load and therefore reduce acceleration. I’m assuming they also changed the VF drive programming slightly as well so they change sound at 30mph.

The Class 350/1 operates on both AC Overhead Lines and 3rd Rail because they're Dual Voltage which they have a Pantograph and Shoegear or Collector Shoe.

Good trains but hate the layout of the seats and no tables theses are not built for long distance services like Weymouth I bet SWR are not popular around there

More familiar with this EMU's more modern siblings - 700s, 707s etc. - but i had the pleasure of riding one of these last summer out to Feltham from Waterloo. Loved that train journey just because it was a new route to me but the train itself was also very fast, comfortable (air conditioning and working sockets were appreciated too)... yeah, real good. The Desiros across the board are really good units based on my experience. Kind of like the way these bug-eyed 2000s models look too, they're cute kinda.
