Dr Schueftan talks about the hopelessness of the Arab states and argues that the situation is worse than it was before the Arab Spring. when it comes to the middle east the options are not between the good and the bad but between the repulsive and the catastrophic. Schueftan stresses that the option of "listening to Europeans" does not exist. Europe has abdicated from history and is at most a nice museum. They believe in speaking softly works without carrying a big stick. Americans have a problem in understanding radicals. They believe that the radical is actually a moderate that had a difficult childhood.
