Franz - just wanted to thank you as well. I had been looking for this one either in English or in Italian (I live in the US but speak and read Italian) and finding it in English (which was the original language used during shooting) was priceless. Bless you.

To make the English version I used a restaured Italian version available on a DVD and the original English audio available on an old VCR tape !!!

@@ItalianFriendOfJapan I am curious if the Italian actors recorded their lines in Emglish during shooting, or, as I suspect, spoke Italian, while the British spoke English, and had dubbing actors for the English version while the Italian version had the original audio of the Italians. If two actors of different languages exchange dioluage, I presume maintaining cohesion would be easy.
@francescobruno48082 жыл бұрын
@@inovakovsky It is hard to say. The main italian character have not beed dubbed, you can hear their original voice in both versions. But it is also unlikely that they had to shoot the sequences two times, to use both language. Then probably the Italian characters dubbed themselves. In fact, Alberto Sordi was also a professional dubber who gave the Italian voice, among others, to Oliver Hardy, in the comic series of Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy. While the English characters have been doubbed in the Italian version that means they used English in the original one.
@inovakovsky2 жыл бұрын
@@francescobruno4808 I tried to find other films for Sordi and his voice is close to English of his character but I could not be sure if he ever spoken Englsih while his voice is slightly off, so I am not sure. Regardelss, If the English version had the Italians dubbed, it would be excellent. Dubbing has such an infamous reputation. This film was made before Dorty Italain prodcuers to make ww2 films, when Dirty Dozen was a hit for them to rip-off, on par with thier spaghetti westerns. I read that the screenplay dioluage was written by the writer of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Overall nice film. Most versions are the Italian restoration matched with English audio. Yes, I know the Italian version had a couple deleted scenes but not too impactful on the plot. Merry Christmas/happy holidays.
@francescobruno48082 жыл бұрын
@@inovakovsky Actually, the Italian version is longer at the beginning as it shows when Sordi was recruiting locals. That part is missing in the English version as other minor parts. I have not had the opportunity yet to look at the Spanish version that I bought recently form Amazon Spain! Merry Chrismas and Happy New Year

One of my teachers was with the Black Watch. Mr Nicholson. A wonderful man. However, he hated the Italians most sincerely - but loved the Germans. I never understood why. However, when he found out that I was half-German, my marks went up remarkably. Good job, I wasn’t half Italian. Incidentally, I love the Italians far more than most Germans - in general.
