The first words he spoke to Hopper , “It’s not exactly the Ritz, is it?” Really sets the plate for his character. The only friendly voice Jim had heard since he was captured. Also , it’s interesting how cultures mirror eachother through the example of how Hopper influences those around him . He is called the “crazy american” by those at Kamchatka . It stands out because of how most Americans perceive russians . Fighting bears and drinking vodka in the freezing cold . Hopper displays that stereotype… there is so much to dig into and analyze here . This show has me at a loss for words!

The season had too many gaps. So Hopper, Joyce, and the rest manage to get away then we see Hopper and Joyce in Hawkins. What happened to Dmitri and Yuri and Murray? And what of Eddie? Only Dustin gets a moment with him and his uncle. Too much happens off screen. I'm guessing the budget and time didn't allow for things like this to be filmed.

As a native speaker I can tell he has pretty strong accent. Alexei from s3 spoke with less accent. Actually there are only several russian guys in this season who speak almost like natives. Others sound like they've been speaking English from birth, but also heard Russian language from their parents or grandparents
