I still remember attending a performance of M. Butterfly at age 5, and I still love Opera at age 81. Don't just imagine going. Get a ticket and enjoy yourself. if you cannot afford a ticket, volunteer your time to work for the Opera company, and You can attend every performance free.

I started to listen to opera and classical music when I was 13. At that time Presley and others were big and the stuff was crap. I still listen to this only on a daily basis and I am now 72. It develops your gray cells and you learn unknowingly systemically and orderly development of thought process. I even have my nephew and niece playing classical music and opera to their 3 children ages 3yrs.-4 months old. Even cows are more productive listening to Mozart.

Precisely the same. I am 72 as well and started listening even earlier. at the age of 13 I was singing in the public youth choir and those who were taller were taken in our opera house to sing Ethiophean slaves in Aida by Verdi.. .Since then I have been reading, listening, going to opera and with the coming new technical facillitiess I do listen operas from all over the warld and as you wrote endleslly learn and enjoy immenselly. one of my granddaughters is studing solo singing. at musical academy, beautiful alto.

I can relate to your feelings. At 77 I have inherited my mother's love of music. Most people I know here in our very small and rural town don't care for the opera but that's their loss! The truth is that there is nothing better than being carried away by the feeling conveyed by classical music, especially the opera. Well, no other musical style can make you relive and express your emotions in the same way. There's rock, folk, jazz, country, soul and many other genres but for depth, beauty, range and scintillating sound, there is only opera. When the hair on the back of your neck goes up, when you are momentarily transported, and when you know that what you have just heard is resonating in your heart, soul and mind, then you have arrived at a special place. Could a sound be more magical, could everything around you suddenly melt, could you only wonder that such music could ever be written, then you know and know deeply that this is just about as close as you will ever get to Heaven on Earth!

La verdad es que no hay nada mejor que dejarse llevar por el sentimiento que te trasmite la música clásica, sobretodo la ópera. Pues ningún otro estilo musical puede hacerte revivir y expresar tus emociones de la misma manera. Es maravilloso encontrar personas tan sensibles que valoren tanto la calidad y tengan el entusiasmo en su piel, su corazón y alma cada vez que escuchan un aria o dúo de ópera. This comment section is so comforting, I’m 14 and I love opera. I started to listen to it when I was 13. My friends don’t like or have the same interests as me. But opera is truly on of a kind. The vocals and the preparation that goes into it is absolutely shocking. Maybe in the future, I’ll meet someone who likes opera. But for now, I go from one comment section to another ;)

The Madame Butterfly "Un beldi, verdremo" is the best rendering of the aria I have ever heard. Such amazing deep emotion. It hit so hard. When you hear it, you really, really beleive it. It touched my soul, my heart, like no other aria.

Questa raccolta, oltre che essere una meravigliosa compagnia per alcune ore, è anche ambasciatrice della grande musica lirica. Confesso che prima d'ora non avevo mai sentito tanta bella musica. It's almost as if music changes over time, and that it's still out there, and that people should like what they like instead of bemoaning the music of the "youths" of today, and claiming that it isn't "real" music because the style isn't [age+] years old and they don't like it. People have varied tastes and things, and music never truly dies. Instead of bemoaning the use of today and isolating them, introduce them to amuse music and sometimes they won't like it at first, but it can grow on people. Let people enjoy things. People are not one-dimensional.

I am listening to this because my voice teacher told me that the kind of music you listen to affects how you sing. So far this has really helped me with singing Nel Cor Pui Non Mi Sento, and I am more confident in singing It for my audition.

Musique has been a life long addiction for me! I was about your age when I could start listening to it. There used to be (maybe still is??) 2 radio stations AM in ?California? , I think it was 650/660 one played Classical during the day the other at night. I listened to the night time one , just a slight turn of the dial.

Some years ago, on a tape that I have since lost, I had a piece of opera that I have been unable to find since. I could not remember the name and could only barely recall the tune. Then, listening to this, while cleaning up my office, I heard and recognized the missing piece. It starts at 1:37:53 and is the Cavalleria Rusticana; Beato voi, comprar Algio; Mascagni. Music to stir the heart and soul.
