Isnt this just the most beautiful piece of machinery ever conceived? I'm not the biggest fan of streamlining, but what an engine Truly 'a Duchess' Beautiful.

Hate the streamlining, I don’t think sir William Stanier was totally convinced by it. He did bring out 6230 unstreamlined from its beginning. I don’t think a private owner would have re-streamlined it. Unstreamlined the Princess Corination were the best Pacific’s ever. A4’s were the best streamlined Pacific’s of all time.

A great video. I think Duchess of Hamilton looks amazing re-streamlined, although Sir William Stanier must be turning in his grave! Unlike Gresley, he thought that the high maintenance costs of streamlining outweighed any benefits in performance or the good publicity it brought.

TrainFan 95 well to be fair the A4s streamlining was executed in a manner that made maintenance easier than the Coronations, hence why it wasn't removed by BR, so not really a fair comparison

@@dubsy1026 ever seen a A4 unstreamlined?? Its sorta required because without the Gresley casing you'd have a locomotive far uglier than anything Oliver Bullied could have ever dreamt up!! The casing is apart of the locos design whereas with duchess its not a integral part of her design but rather an add on.

I don't like the stream lining - the original condition was MUCH nicer. But a google search tells me he had 40,000lbf of Tractive Effort which is most impressive.
