How is Emoni’s upside higher? He can shoot from 3 but that seems about it at this point and he doesn’t care to impact the game in any other way. Duren is physically dominant and hasn’t even scratched the surface of his offense potential
@TheHilltopperNation3 жыл бұрын
@Damon Hodge LaMelo Ball could always pass, it was a question of if his shot would translate. Emoni is glorified high volume three pointer shooter who does nothing else and has barely progressed. It or emoni can’t finish to the basket unless he’s on a fast break and dunk it ? He’s like 6’9 barely never drive to the rim
@d.gaines79383 жыл бұрын
He lacks physical strength. Physical strength impacts nearly every aspect of the game which is why he focuses on shooting which is the one aspect that is more finesse & skill than strength. Same reason that Brandon Boston struggled in college. It is a temporary problem bc it's easy to address with a good strength coach and his body will naturally fill out some with age.
@Ichifate3 жыл бұрын
6'8 and yeah, shit isn't gonna work at the next level. He's not a good enough defensive player at his height for it to offset the fact that he doesn't have that much of a driving game.

Emoni hasn't proved he deserves it, no hater shit but he only shot 39% from the field while averaging 24.5. We aren't talking about a 30 ppg scorer here, the team was built around him and for a guy who's ranked pretty much purely off of how tall he is mixed with how good of a scorer he is to have those stats scoring wise doesn't make sense. He's 6'8 and those numbers from the field are barely acceptable from a 6'3 guard averaging 28 let alone a 6'8 wing who's a primary scorer.

@Ichifate3 жыл бұрын
No disrespect, I just don't see the KD comparison being a reality in the NBA. KD was shorter less athletic, but was much better defensively and even a greater and more consistent offensive player. I just don't see the generational talent they put on this guy, doesn't mean he can't be a generational player, I doubt it, but he's not a generational talent. He's 6'8, doesn't have as much of the length as advertised, and it's not like he's really shaking these guys, he's just shooting over and getting by on mostly athleticism. This could just be my competitive side talking as I'm just a class below him and working towards becoming a better ball player, so naturally I have to come at guys like him because if you aren't willing to do so there's really no point in playing. But I truly think they're hyping this guy up to be something he won't be. I hardly see his game translating to the college level that well let alone the NBA, I know there's time to grow but how are you gonna grow that much when your school branding has you on it as well as your last name being on your EYBL jersey. He's a dog, but KD is different. But for instance, Kobe was not a generational talent, but he was a generational player, same with Bird and Curry, even KD. Kobe is the no. 2 player of all time in my opinion and he was just slightly above average athletically for his build, and he wasn't given anything, he worked for it. He shot 39% and only averaged 25, and he wasn't facing top talent consistently this HS basketball season.

I know Emoni is a volume scorer but he needs to take better shots, they need to get him off of pin downs and cuts to the baskets or even V cuts he just stands around. And he only looks alive on offense, once he misses he just totally relaxes on Defense
@markaso12943 жыл бұрын
He likes to project an intense persona with all the flexing, fist clenching, stare downs and trash-talking, but that intensity does not extend to defense at all. On offense he is a gunner/ball-stopper who takes a lot of dribbles (though he has a good handle) and ridiculously bad shots (though he is a good shooter), doesn't move without the ball and is an unremarkable playmaker and passer. On defense he has a completely upright stance, basically just stands around doing nothing and avoids contact at all costs. He has great size for a wing but has very short arms and small hands for his height and has a thin frame with a high base, and is not a great athlete, vertically or laterally. He definitely has NBA talent but he needs better coaching and a better attitude and approach to the game. He needs to learn how to play team basketball and make winning plays on both ends, while reeling in the anger (he reminds me of a Renardo Sidney or Demarcus Cousins). Right now, Jalen Duren is a much better player who impacts winning at the highest level of high school basketball. Bates has potential but he has not developed much as a player since his freshman year.
@dtslimefr97413 жыл бұрын
@@markaso1294 This is facts, and nexy year if he does not win on a national level Jalen Duran will take his spot, Jalen Duran already won Geico nationals this year and most likely Montverde will be stacked again next year. At this point he's a very poor man's Kevin Martin- a pure scorer/gunner but without the efficiency of Martin who was very proficient at getting to the line. Bates' extremely poor shot selection, ball-stopping/selfish play, poor motor, lack of physical gifts (short arms, small hands, slender frame, average athleticism) and attitude/anger issues are all major red flags, and I think he will struggle to score efficiently and impact winning even in college unless he makes major improvements. I was never that high on him but thought he had potential at least, so his lack of development has been a major disappointment. He's just not good enough to warrant all the attention and hype.
@cullenclark99423 жыл бұрын
@@markaso1294 bro you gotta remember this man is still a teenager in high school. These can all be developed by a college coach, honestly a horrible take.
@andrewjohnson87613 жыл бұрын
@@markaso1294 You are relatively objective as it pertains your perspective. His lack of length and explosiveness will cause him problems as a pro and even as a college player. However, he can become as great as people hype him up to be if he uses his handle to become a playmaker. He would be a great scoring point guard or combo guard considering that he will maintain an advantage physically. However, he has to allow himself to mature, accept his physical shortcomings right now, and alter his game gradually to maintain what he does well. Instead of always dribbling to score, he must become more intentional about facilitating and begin dribbling to probe the opposition to open up lanes for his team. I believe that some Magic highlights and even some steve smith highlights would be great film to study. Ironically, both are from Michigan and had an edge to their game like Emoni and neither were explosive athletes, nor did they have freakish length. You notice many of his passes were assist, but its generally when he is forced to pass. He will never be like those guys as a player, but he could use a bit of their IQ as a scorer in Smith's case and a passer/ efficient scorer in Magic's case. He has a bright future and understands how to get 30 on off nights, but he's not seeing that it is to the detriment of his team's success. The days of the AI/ Kobe types are over, you must be a legitimate passing threat within the flow of the offense, not when you're doubled or outmatched physically and are forced to pass or get you shot blocked. He will be ok, but he needs another year to develop and worry less about stats and more about positively impacting the game around elite players.
@markaso12943 жыл бұрын
@@andrewjohnson8761 Definitely he is young an can still get better, but his lack of development since his freshman season is worrying. Either he needs to reclassify and play for Tom Izzo next season or go to top prep program with elite coaching so he can learn to play within and system and get rid of bad habits (e.g. having tunnel vision, overdribbling and taking unnecessarily difficult shots, not moving without the ball, not giving any effort on defense) and some of that ego and attitude. He definitely has excellent positional size (despite the lack of length) and scoring talent but it takes more than that to become a good NBA player. He needs to learn how to play winning basketball and right now that just isn't happening. Not sure he'll be OK but I do hope he figures it out eventually.

Believe in JESUS, we are all sinners deserving the wrath of GOD, because we sin against a holy and just and perfect GOD. Therefore we all deserve the punishment hell, but GOD in his rich grace and mercy by which he loved us sent JESUS to die for us on the cross to leave his throne and suffer for us. To be the perfect sacrifice for us because he himself was sinless and perfect. That if we would have a repentant heart and believe in JESUS and place our faith in Him, we will be saved from the eternal punishment which is hell, and be given eternal life.

Emoni might be more Michael Beasley than Kevin Durant. Not necessarily a bad thing since Beasley was also insanely talented (as KD said himself), he was just more focused on his own individual game instead of playing within the flow of and offense. Duran best rebounder ,shot blocker(7'5 wingspan) ,and passing big man in the country by far.Starting to show he can handle the ball and has nice form and touch on that jumper to go with godd foot work down low. Power players develope a little latter but as that ball handling and range is extended and added to everything else including running the floor like a deer. He is the second coming of Chris Webber..Bates is a scoring machine no question. How is he going to physically develope? Is he going to get more explosive because he is only an average athlete at that level.Is he ever going to be a factor on defense.. That is the breakdown in a nutshell.

I actually think #24 in Blue, Dereck Lively, is the best long-term prospect in this video. He is a legit 7-1 who has a beautiful form on his jumper that looks like it can improve. I watched the whole game and Team Final actually played Lively like a stretch big on offense while Duren played the paint. However, unlike a lot of other stretch bigs, Lively is also very mobile and a great rim protector who can run the floor and finish. He reminds me of Willie Cauley Stein on defense but has a much more workable jumper.

Emoni peers are catching up to him. Dude should just skip college and go overseas or the g league. He will probably be a 13-15 game scorer in the NBA but dawg needs to hit the weights. His play making is getting better however but others are clearly catching up. The prep school thingy kinda soured his rep especially after frankie collins gave him that work and after chit gave him the buisness....I think mikey outplayed him too, right ? Still a major talent but he's no longer generational but could have a impact.

He's overrated. But then, everyone is overrated. If a player is rated, then he's overrated, because if you notice, the "recruiting analysts" are all guys who never played in the NBA. And they're lousy at evaluating the college potential of high school players.
