The Mealtime scene is genuinely one of the greatest One Piece moments in years. It's one of Oda's signature quirky character traits, it gives Luffy an advantage in the fight since it helped him figure out why he couldn't hit him, and it turned the character a complete 180 degrees. Absolutely loved it.

actually it took luffy seeing katakuri in that situation to make katakuri get embarrased and lose his focus allowing luffy to figure out he can hit dogtooth if his focus is off. if that didnt happen luffy would still had been led to believe his devil fruit negates all physical attacks.

I love Dogtooth, but I have to say that I feel Doflamingo is marginally a better villain than him. I totally understand what BGE(and many others who were disappointed) mean when he says Dofla didn't reach his full potential... still, everything we got from him was gold. Lots of charm, wonderful backstory, great character design, an actual threat to Luffy (something we haven't had since the beginning of the New World). Doflamingo was simply a brilliant villain in a not-so-brilliant arc imo.

I give my rating for each arc; Fishmand Island (6/10) Punk Hazard (8.5/10) Dressrosa (8/10) Zou (6/10) WCI (9/10) Dressrosa is slow pace , yes, but i think it's good.. because many stories, backstories from Rebecca, Law, and Doffy and many fight scenes.. including Sabo, Burgess, Top Executive Family, etc so many things in one arc, that's why Oda need to make Dressrosa longer and slow paced

His complexity as a character mixed with his bloodline and his urge to destroy the world make him a truly sinister villain. Katakuri is really cool but he doesn't hold a candle to Doffy's character.

I never understand all the hate Law gets in the western OP fandom. I mean, he's hardly my favorite character. Maybe my favorite non-Straw Hat Supernova, but he's no where near a mary sue. Let's start with the D thing, is it special? Because so far it's only really defining trait is that those who have it die with a smile on their face. There was nothing majorly special about Saul. And remember, in the most recent chapter as of this comment (887) Pound, a minor background character has a really gut-wrenching death scene and he too takes it like a boss with a big happy smile on his face moments before the impact. People have suggested that ala Gol D. Roger originally believed to be named Gold, Pound might actually be Poun D. He was the least interesting part of his flashback arc, which I personally felt kind of had the point of saying how special a character's powers were didn't matter. Corazon was awesome and he probably has the weakest DF in the entire series. One of Law's most likable traits is that the basis of his motivation is admiration for Corazon. And as for him being an overpowered mary sue? Please, he spends the entirety of the Dressrosa arc getting his shit kicked in and losing all but one of his fights in the arc. His big motivation was taking out Doflamingo and halfway through the fight he has to acknowledge he can't do it and settle for Trebol not to lose face. I've kind of wondered what exactly his motivation is now. If Law was a mary sue he would have beaten Doflamingo. As for the "special power" thing, he has the power to kill himself and make someone else immortal. Hardly special. Sugar's power retarded her aging without the need for anyone's death, Jewelry Bonney can make herself and others younger or older. It's really not unique. It's just depressing foreshadowing that Law's probably going to sacrifice himself to save someone, probably Luffy later in the series.

Well, one thing I think you're mistaken on about the D. Clan is that their purpose is to 'oppose the gods' which is what the Tenryubito are considered. That doesn't mean their role is to directly confront and defeat them. Now perhaps I'm completely wrong, but the theory I came up with is that each D. member has done something drastic that would eventually oppose the 'gods'. With Law, he opposed Doflamingo and acts as a pirate. Roger became the Pirate King and found the secret to the void century which is something the Tenryubito have been hiding their entire lives because it will apparently topple the world. The reason that you can consider Jaguar D. Saul as one of them is because he saved Robin, the only person in the world now capable of reading the Ponyglyphs. Something that the World Government and by extension the 'gods' have been trying to eliminate for years. Garp is a different D. as he has brought into the world several of those who would directly oppose the 'gods'. But that makes him a lot like Saul, in all honesty. Basically, D's by their actions, direct or indirect, have all done something that opposes the 'gods', whether they held it in mind or not. Also, I love Law, but I can definitely understand why you're complaining about him. Honestly I would likely feel the same way if he wasn't undercut all the time by the actions of the Straw Hats as well. It makes him more interesting and fun to watch when he gets his dark personality challenged by going at the pace of the colorful Straw Hats in contrast. Because Oda puts him in these situations and doesn't take him to his logical edgy conclusion. His presence doesn't bring down the party, he gets absorbed into it unwillingly lol.

Slump? The new world has been the shit. Punk hazard was a great arc, he's built up the yonko so well, dressrosa was long on a weekly basis but on a reread it's fast. But Zou was one of the best arcs by far, the poneglyphs, Jack, raizo is safe.. And whole cake is seriously so badass. Setting up so much & Katakuri really is the fucking best villain in ages, a dark parallel to Luffy. Why is Jaguar important? Nigga, he fucking saved the only fucking key to the void century by standing up to a hax devil fruit admiral and dying with positive words and a laugh...plus a procephy that got fulfilled when she found her nakama. Saul was respected as a marine and by Aokiji as he and Kuzan can be seen traveling with Garp in the movie where they go after Shiki (I think...sengoku is with borsalino). *One Piece is objectively superior to Hunter x Hunter* HxH fanboys (I don't necessarily mean fans) have a very *narrow* understanding of what makes a work of fiction "good". It is very simplistic to look at how dark and mature something is and base its worth entirely off that. They overvalue that aspect of storytelling and don't see the million other things that go into writing. It is annoying because HxH fanboys think that because they're reading a shonen that regularly subverts tropes then it means that it is inherently superior. Bad logic. 'Different' does not = better, it just means different. HxH is a subversion of Shonen tropes, whereas One Piece, for example, is the best execution of Shonen tropes. It's apples and oranges, and both have strengths that the other does not. HxH fanboys just don't see or understand the countless strengths that One Piece has over it. These are my two favorite manga, but I dislike HxH's fanbase for their pretentious and honestly ignorant outlook. Off the top of my head, these are some of the primary differences: *Strengths of HxH:* - More nuanced micro storytelling. Meaning that on an arc to arc basis, the writing is really going to stand out from the standard shonen. Much less predictable, darker, and more "sophisticated" ideas. For example, the Mereum-Komugi relationship was arguably the best Shonen writing I've seen - Better Fights. Arguably the smartest fights in Shonen. HxH is very creative with character abilities, and Nen combat is maybe the most complex shonen combat system out there - Bolder writing style that isn't afraid to subvert readers' expectations - More unique character dynamics. As previously mentioned, Mereum-Komugi, but also just relationships between the Phantom Troupe, the Zoldyck family, Hisoka-Gon, etc. - Generally a more "thoughtful" series, with a better handle on complexities of morality and deeper character conflicts (Ex: Kurapika's entire arc in Yorknew) *Strengths of One Piece:* - Better Worldbuilding. No question, it's not even close, and HxH's worldbuilding is often haphazardly done without any sense of continuity. - Better story structure. One Piece has an incredibly well crafted story structure, where from the very start the author intended to tell two stories: the first half about pure, more light-hearted adventure as the protagonists venture into a massive world, and begin to learn of the great conflicts and superpowers of the universe, ending with a great tragedy that puts the level of the world in perspective (Ace/WB death). And then a second half being a great war where the protagonists finally take on that world and try to push themselves to the top. All literally divided in halves by the geography of the world from the start. Even within those halves, Oda effectively builds each story from the ground up, such as how multiple arcs tell individual stories that build into a larger saga, that builds into a super saga (ex: PH arc to Dressrossa saga to overarching Four Yonko super saga) - Better foreshadowing. One Piece's foreshadowing is legendary by the standards of any fiction. - Better planning. Same as above, HxH often feels like the story is wandering without any sort of real direction or goal, or broader conflict. - Better Art. No idea how HxH fanbase excuses this one. The art for the series is horrible for the most part, whereas One Piece has some of the most detailed and unique artwork that you will see. - Better Comedy. It's actually insane how a fantasy epic like One Piece succeeds at being one of the funniest stories out there at the same time. Most underrated aspect of the series imo. - Better at handling large casts of characters, developing ALL characters (major or minor) whereas with Togashi is frequently very lazy when it comes to introducing new ensemble characters who are not that important - Stylistic blend. Just looking at WCI, I promise there are no other series that could do what One Piece did and blend together the fantasy/fairy tail theme with a mafia/gangster theme with sci-fi/neo nazi theme with a Candyland theme and make it all work together in the span of 60 chapters. - Better large scale/macro storytelling. One Piece has about a billion more running plot threads, character storylines, and moving pieces throughout the series than HxH and Oda weaves it all together in one continually growing narrative. - Better consistency - One Piece has been good for about 20 years whereas HxH only has 2 truly great arcs (Yorknew and Chimera Ants) - Better thematic consistency- An absolutely HUGE factor. What are the primary themes of HxH? How are they woven throughout the story *consistently* ? One Piece has consistent subtext; the primary themes of the series such as freedom, inherited will, dreams, etc are all effectively woven through pretty much *every arc* under the surface. Even if those themes are lighthearted, feel-good themes, that's not the point; the point is that Oda is able to write a series that means something. HxH is more on an arc to arc basis, and doesn't as effectively convey what it is trying to say as a series as a WHOLE Both series have their strengths, but when you put it all down on paper you'll find that One Piece has a lot more going for it. Furthermore, would HxH still maintain it's level of quality if it ran weekly like One Piece does? Or if Oda had the same number of breaks as Togashi? No. One Piece is objectively better than HxH overall

HxH in my opinion has better world building and pacing because of how arcs flow into new arcs and the nen system and hints to how big the world is and how unimportant gon is in the grand view of it all. So dont say one piece is objectivly better cus its not they are both great you just enjoy one piece more

Even if you aren't willing to admit that OP is better you cannot deny that it is a far more impressive series than HxH. Oda is a literary genius in every sense of the word & has been keeping track of & expanding/concluding hundreds of characters' back-stories & sub-plots etc not to mention his insane world-building & foreshadowing abilities. I've never seen any fictional writer come close to him in those regards (besides maybe Tolkien's world-building).

Cowboyforfun Worldbuilding is far more than just "introducing a lot of new locations". Any writer can simply add a new location but that does not necessarily mean his story has good worldbuilding. Good worldbuilding involves fleshing out a particular location, its history, its people, their culture, how well each of these ideas contribute to making the world feel real and alive, and also how well these ideas contribute to the overall plot. For example, let's focus on a one of One Piece's many islands: Sabaody Archipelago, for a moment. Just look at how fleshed out it is. We learn detailed information about its environment: the mangroves, how it produces a unique resin that forms bubbles that contribute to the technological advancement of the people of Sabaody, the Carnival etc. These ideas all contribute to making the world feel real and alive, and they also contribute to the plot (bubble coating necessary to travel to Fishmen Island). Then consider the people's culture, how racism and slavery is treated as the norm. From this we learn about Sabaody's history, the corrupted world government, the Celestial Dragons, etc. Now most importantly, look at how far back in the story and how far into the future this history ties everything together: Arlong Park, Amazon Lily, Fishmen Island, where the enslavement of Fishmen is a major reason for why these arcs turn out the way they did. And that is just ONE island in the series.... I understand that some of my points like 'comedy' and 'which arcs are good or not' can be subjective (however all of them are what the majority agree to be the case), but worldbuilding is not one of them. Objectively speaking, there simply is no way that current HxH surpasses One Piece at worldbuilding.

I agree so hard with just about everything you said. However I think you might have missed the point with Law as a character. Full disclosure, I love Law, he isn't my all time favorite, but he is up there (I have a thing for medical/doctor related power sets). Anyway, Law's comedy comes from that fact he is a "serious" character, constantly dealing with a crazy world. I absolutely love how hard he tried to keep himself separate from Luffy with their alliance, only to be shut up instantly by everyone else who knows Luffy wasn't having any of that. Law I feel is misunderstood in this way, being pegged as a sort of edgelord type. However just look at how wacky and weird his crew is, Bepo most of all. It's a different type of comedy, but it is there. As for his powers, Ya he is OP. I could see him 1v1 just about anyone in the series, but that doesn't matter there are other fruits just as broken as his. The thing about his one time use surgery power, I think is pretty clear foreshadowing. Luffy has had several years shaved off his life between Impel Down and the War. After the fight with Kaido, perhaps Law needs to save Luffy again, but this time in exchange for his life. Maybe as a thank you for beating Doflamingo. That's all just conjecture, but I feel something at least close to that is reasonable. It's not just Oda making Law a shitty "look how cool I am" character.

The one thing luffy had that separates his fruit from Katakuri was the potential of acceleration to his attack that only rubber could give him. putting tenion to his arms by constricting, streaching or bouncing of walls(or in this case somehow bouncing mid -air. I'l let it slide) . So essentially Katakuri had more raw power, but luffy had more speed, which mad their power about equal in the end. I loved that Oda showed us that through the fight, instead of just magically making luffys non-creative attacks have a power boost out of nowhere. he needed to accelerate each and every attack multiple times to match the raw power put out by katakuris straight forward punches.

11:08, the way I always understood Luffy's Gatling Gun isn't that he's just "throwing punches" but rather that he's taking advantage of his stretchiness. I don't know how to effectively explain this but I'll try my best putting it step by step (sorry for my terrible english btw, this isn't my first language): Step 1: Luffy throws a fast and strong punch, so his fist stretches to it's limit. Step 2: Once his fist is as stretch as it can be with this first punch, he "pulls back" his fist, taking advance of the strength formed by the punch thrown Step 3: Since his punch is being pulled really strongly, it stretches back, so whenever he throws the next punch, he's taking advantage of both his own strength and the strength of the stretch. He keeps doing this until his arms are moving fast and hard enough to look like he's punching a million times at once. So while I understand your rant in any other manga, I think in One Piece it makes sense to do it the way Luffy does it.

Lucci and Enel were my personal favorites. GEEZ the whole Water 7 thing was great as it was Luffy's first major initiative as being a pirate captain and the twist and turns the crew went through with two members seeming to leave with no way to get them back. then CP9 and a more in depth look into the World Government.......for the first time there was a CLEAR threat to everyone and it feels the crew met their match . Enel (or Eneru whatever you want) was just pure arrogance and ego in that entertaining way to make him just perfect and the interesting dynamic of the devil fruit (Luffy's natural immunity to blunt force and electricity) made the fight exciting.

Mostly unrelated to this video, but I had kind of an epiphany about One Piece thanks to it : I think one of the reasons I like One Piece so much is that, more often than not, I don't expect what happens. In other fiction I often imagine what will happen next and either I'm right and it makes the plot developments less exciting or I'm wrong but my ideas were more interesting so the actual plot frustrates me. But with One Piece, it doesn't always happen, and when I'm surprised by a turn of even I didn't see coming yet makes sense given the context, it's just so much fun.

I personally had a very sweet spot for Enel. but I just want to comment: Luffy's Gatling gun isn't as simple as flinging rapid punches. it was confirmed that the force behind gatling gun is provided by the elastic snap of his arms given he is made of rubber. and because the snappy nature of rubber accelerates it's momentum. explains why he can punch so fast in doing so.

i love the fact that law is a perfect mary sue like im so cool, look at my protagonist check list kind of guy. he isnt the main character or even on the crew (despite the current buddy buddyness) hes just a really over the top insanely perfect protag type character. and i love the comedy of a guy like law hanging out with the goofy and flawed straw hat crew. as he sits there wondering how they cant seem to take situations seriously. he goes into life expecting everything to be this edgy battle of fate, and then hes forced to rely on luffy and the gang who are basically complete opposites of him. also, im sure luffys shenanigans will rub off on him in time. but ill still be happy with the funny contrast between law and luffy.

With the punch combo thing, throwing out multiple punches at the same time is less efficient and damaging than throwing out a flurry of blows like Luffy does. As you say, boxers put their weight behind a single devastating blow, but they also do multi-punch combos. What boxers don't do is throw out both fists at once. Dividing the weight, power, and precision from a single punch to two makes it far less useful, let alone 100.

I will say, Law pre-timeskip was a way better handled character than post-timeskip. I don't know why there was such a large change in his character. Initially he was just a laid back, sarcastic guy who loved his crew and had a cool devil fruit, not stacked up with bad ass tropes. They could have made that Law a shichibukai with the unique devil fruit without giving him the relentlessly tragic backstory and the way more serious tone.
