During the section about Elesh Norn I mentioned doubling up Fable of the Mirror-Breaker's Goblin token. That doesn't actually work because Sagas are weird. The trigger when the lore counter is added, not when they enter the battlefield. My bad!
@jamesrule1338

Silly question, would it double up the add a lore counter trigger? Since adding the lore counter is an ETB, would the saga immediately gain two counters on it?

@@jamesrule1338 I believe because it says “AS it enters the battlefield,” there is not technically a trigger associated with a lore counter being put on it, only a trigger for the ability itself.

Hm, I don't think Elesh Norn works with sagas the way you said, the ETB trigger of a saga is to put a lore counter on it, so you wouldn't get two goblins with Fable, you'd just get 2 counters on Fable.
@notjake2089
@notjake2089 Жыл бұрын
I don't believe you'd get 2 counters either actually. The rules text for getting the first lore counter is an "As this enters the battlefield" rather than a "when" effect

@@notjake2089 @jstuckless "As" and "when" are both ETBs. The difference is that "as" is not a trigger, so it cannot be responded to on the stack (e.g. Annointed Peacekeeper). When a Saga gets two lore counters, it gets each level. It does not skip over one (e.g. how Vorenclex gives two counters to Sagas) It should give two lore counters AND get effects from each *edit* just read Elesh Norns ability again. It specifically says triggered abilities, so I do believe "as" doesn't count. So yeah, I guess it doesn't affect sagas.

Just want to make a correction here at around the 14:05 mark: Elesh Norn has no affect on Sagas. They enter the battlefield with a Lore Counter as a replacement effect, and trigger off the lore counter being placed. She doesn’t double your Sagas or stop your opponents Sagas.

Capricious Hellraiser seems like a glaring omission. I’m totally onboard with AspiringSpike’s argument that it’s not supposed to be viewed as an all-in combo piece, but rather as essentially an upgraded Bloodbraid Elf. The random free spell doesn’t have to be game-winning. It’s more than good enough for it to just be a nice bonus that’s tacked onto a 4/4 flier that - in a deck with fetchlands, DRCs and Baubles - is usually gonna cost just 3 mana.

I'm not sure Venerated rotpriest goes "infinite(bounded by life)" with two Spellskite, the only mention in the rules of "become the target trigger" is in 601.2c and state that the trigger triggers during the process of casting the spell. There are no reference to 601.2 in 115.7 (changing target) that would implies that those triggered ability get an additional chance at triggering.

All Will Be One seems like a design mistake. So many ways to just start an infinite damage chain on turn 6 if it survives turn 5. It’s a kill on sight card. It needed some type of cost like for each counter, exile a card from your grave and then deal the damage

TBH I'm still not exactly sure on the viability of looking at Tyvar in comparison to Grist, because they do such completely different things despite being 3 mana Golgari planeswalkers that it seems pretty clear they would slot into different decks. Grist is probably stronger overall but I feel like they inhabit very different niches and that a direct one to one comparison misses that. Maybe I'm very high on the card but I think Tyvar has a lot of potential as a powerful enabler and less as a general advantage or removal piece.

wait so 2 2 drop artifact creatures and 1 1 drop creature plus any spell that targets wins the game. could you make a coco stile vernerated rotprist deck that use something like fatal push as early game removal and then when you get to your combo as the win condition. 20 life is exactly enough for spellskite to retarget 9 times plus the original 1 for 10 infect. that sounds way more legit than doing storm

I don’t think you need two spellskites to pull off that trick. Spellskite doesn’t care who or what is being targeted. Hell, the spell doesn’t even have to target anything. You can still activate spellskite’s ability. As far as I understand, you can even activate it with a creature spell on the stack.

The huge upside to rotpriest as well is if you're opponent is on 8 or 9 poison counters but your creatures have been removed you can play rotpriest if they remove it they instantly die or you can immediately target it with a spell and basically have this pseudo hasty infect creature that you normally wouldn't have access to to end the game not giving your opponent the chance to untap their next turn
@baboyaga7711
@baboyaga7711 Жыл бұрын
I don't know....I really think the rotpriest wont see any play in infect at all except for some experimental brews and maybe sideboard slots. Sitting on turn 1 with a rotpriest instead of an infect creature is just miserable and in almost every other case it takes the spot of one of your important pumpspells. I think Infect is too much of a one-trick deck to allow for a second, cute twist like Rotpriest that weakens the core of what you are trying to pull of.
@Greg_Ulmer
@Greg_Ulmer Жыл бұрын
@BaboYaga I'm not totally sure that it's good,but no one is replacing their turn 1 infect creatures with rotpriest, or playing rotpriest on 1 over an infect creature, so that point is irrelevant. The upside of being able to finish your opponent off without having to play a creature, have it live, attack and get through is substantial though. It could allow the deck to be less one-trick and more grindy, if it works out.
@bradleykyonizuka2558
@bradleykyonizuka2558 Жыл бұрын
@@baboyaga7711 idk you aren't playing this over your other infect creatures so of this is the only creature in your opening hand it means you wouldn't have had that infect creature anyway and would be forced to mulligan.which mulligans are brutal in a meta full of scam decks so anything that helps avoid a mulligan is improving the deck and while toxic 1 isn't a huge help you it is still potentially adding poison counters while you wait for inkmoth or another infect creature to come online. You see a lot of keeps where inkmoth is the only infect creature which is slow and puts you essentially down a land and makes pumping more expensive because you have to use a land to turn on inkmoth and then inkmoth is now your creature not available for mana and even when using it for mana it doesn't make colored man which is also very awkward for an infect deck. I understand the opportunity cost is lower for a land slot but if inkmoth can make it worth with that overall awkward interaction with the rest of the deck I think this has a good chance to work as well. At the VERY least in the sideboard
@baboyaga7711
@baboyaga7711 Жыл бұрын
@@Greg_Ulmer Yeah, but that's not what the deck wants. It's like saying making burn or 8-whack more grindy. Sure you could do it but only by watering down what makes the deck good in the first place and making it worse. You could also add proliferate or something similar to make Infect more grindy...but nobody does that because you are inevitably weakening your core game plan for it. What I meant with turn 1 is that an infect hand without an infect creature turn 1 is pretty much a no-go. So I don't see anyone slotting out an infect creature for this.
@baboyaga7711
@baboyaga7711 Жыл бұрын
@@bradleykyonizuka2558 Meh, I am pretty unconvinced. Inkmoth doesn't take a spell-slot in your deck so I don't think that comparison is very valid. And what else would you sleeve out for the Rotpriest? Most infect decks are just infect-creatures, pumpspells and protection and I don't think Rotpriest offers enough value to make it worth replacing any of those. If anything Rotpriest will have it's own infect archetype which focuses much less on pump-wins. But that would be a completely different deck.
