Summer 1962 we were heading to Seattle and passing through SD. Sign after sign told us about Wall Drug. After the first 30 or so signs, my parents said there is no way we are stopping. After another 150 or so signs we stopped. I still remember that as a seven year-old kid.

I’ve lived in California my entire life, and I’ve driven up highway 1 a few times, I’ve never been to Sequoia or Yosemite. I know! I’ve driven up/down highway 1 a few times and never stopped in the various places everyone should stop. Our trips have been to Cambria on our way to Paseo Robles for wine guzzling, or to go to/from San Francisco or Oregon. I retired fairly young 8 years ago, and my wife has finally agreed to retire in two weeks. We’re thinking about buying an RV to travel the country part time, so hopefully we’ll finally see our backyard. I had a Class A for several years, but only camped locally. How stupid is that? My wife doesn’t enjoy traveling as much as I do as I’ll stop at every historical site along our route which drives her nuts. I guess seeing every stagecoach route and waypoint isn’t exactly exciting to her. Hopefully in retirement we’ll finally see not only our state, but the entire nation, as much as possible anyway. I’d love to travel full time, but my wife thinks she needs to stay near the kids and grandkids even though we only see them a half dozen times a year. That’s what FaceTime is for!

We lived in Alberta Canada and one year decided to head for Highway 1 in Oregon and follow it south down to California and the Red Woods. Fat chance! We got as the Oregon coast and it's State camps and began to relax and slow down, coming to a dead stop about 2/3 of the way down in Oregon. The scenery, weather, food and campgrounds were just so good we left California and the Redwoods for another trip. Well done Oregon!

Everyone raves about the Mighty Five in Utah. However, you're missing some of the most beautiful places in Utah if you just stick to those five places. You might want to try some of the sites in Eastern Utah such as the San Rafael Swell with the wedge (is Utah's version of the Grand Canyon), Nine Mile Canyon (the largest Indian art gallery in the US) and one of the best dinosaur museums in the world is located in Price, Utah. If you enjoyed Jurassic Park you will love the USU Prehistoric Museum and it's Utah Raptor and many other dinosaurs found right here in Utah. Along with a Mammoth last was excavated about 20 years ago. Give more of Utah a try!!! There's also Goblin Valley and Little Wild Horse Canyon both with some fabulous hikes.
