@tomman77293 жыл бұрын
@@gavmurray7398 actually there aren’t many plugins that aren’t working for me. I still haven’t tried softsynths though. I prefer using AU and for instance Soundtoys plugins doesn’t work in AU but works when using VST. Soothe2 and DrMs are the only plugin that for now doesn’t work with either AU nor VST, that bugs me a little. But Spiff works, so it will probably be sorted out. I’ve also struggled with some Kazrog plugins (synth warmer and Kclip3) while True Iron works. But yeah most of the biggest brands seems to be all working. And if it’s not possible to encode the plugin parameters to the knobs, right now (still work in progress), the touchscreen can be used, which is fully functional on all plugins I’ve tried. I don’t use Pro tools so I haven’t tried it with AAX.

Hey Wytse! What happend to your MP MIDI controller after your pretty euphoric first impressions video? You announced back then that you would do a more complete review but that didn't happen....for a certain reason? Were there any dealbreaking issues you've encountered ? I've just stumbled upon it elsewhere just today while doing some more research on the SSL UF1/UC1/UF8 system (thanks for your video on that!) and found the approach by MP MIDI very appealing, because I already use a dedicated touchscreen forever in combination of custom made controllers for controlling plugins - but that integrated solution in the MP really makes that just more compact on the already crowded desk.....so I would really like to know what turned you off.....!

An iPad can do the same thing with Sidecar if you own a Mac. It’s nice that this controller is equipped with physical controls, but placed in every side (bottom, left, right, top) surrounding the touch screen seems inconvenient to work with. But I can be wrong at the latter assumption, though.

Apparrently using a mouse and keyboard all day is not healthy and lifting weights doesn't seem to be great for wrist neither - but I keep pushing of course! I am looking into controlleroptions, because I feel like that will probably be a good thing in terms of diversifying movements. I'd love something that controls all plugins without being confusing and this seems to come closest to what I imagine. I don’t think you have to drag anything to the window. It works very similarly to FL Studio and Softube Console 1 where they have what they call as wrappers that allows the UI to be hosted and controlled by the controller that you put on an insert in your chain where you can use a single instance per insert or have a whole chain (Up to 12 inserts I believe; may be wrong) on one insert similar to Waves Studiorack.

That thing is really cool, if it had a keyboard with mini keys and/or a pad grid optional attachment with a short cord that plugs into it to make a unified controller for sound design with virual synths of all kinds and developing parts with your patches, that would be neat too. I know there are small midi keyboards out there but often the keys aren't that great about the range of velocity they can smoothly log unless you move up to something like the Arturia Minilab or the NI Komplete Kontrol M32, which are bulky and have encoders and stuff of their own. I'm thinking a slimmed down expansion controller designed to rely on the MP Midi for all that stuff and just sits nicely in a narrow space between the MP and the edge of you desk, keeping it all lined up together and comfortably in reach, or side by side, or on different levels of a multi level stand setup for live performance or something.
@Jakker2712 жыл бұрын
You can do that virtually. Not the same of course but what people need to remember is that it is a second of third monitor that connects to a computer and so you can do a lot. If you struggle with the size and there's no resize capability you can just load magnify up on your computer. Or if you want control with a virtual mod wheel etc, you can do that with xotopad. It's quite chunky but I like the fact you can get more out of it then advertised.

The 'dial colour squares' and labelling are ugly and look clunky... Would be good to see an overhaul of the animation for the dials. Like if the name was in the centre and you could group certain dials into a colour group without having the spaces between the coloured background squares. The unit looks amazing from a construction perspective but I would want a better GUI overhaul. I'd probably make my own custom backgrounds per plugin with group labels and matching colours to underlie the coloured dial squares... but that's me.

I have a question. Did you load any plugins in it that have a big UI? I'm very very curious how well this would work with for example a Synthesizer plugin. Those have very big UI's. And I love using Synth plugins... but I hate hot having buttons. I have external midi controllers, but it's hard to keep track of my mappings (except sticking sticky notes on the controller like I do now). The nice screen would solve that. But since it's not that big... I wonder if I could still read the plugins that have big UI's. Hence my question.
@roodegar2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the plugin. Plugins with big UIs need to be resized down, especially if they have "advanced" sections like many of the Arturia plugins and you don't want them to cover up your labels. Reading works fine but buttons and knobs can get quite small and difficult to touch. Most interfaces aren't designed with touch in mind. In some instances I mapped important buttons to encoders. Some plugins like Diva and Pigments can be tricky to map because the controls change based on the modules you choose. Or they just have too many controls and you can't map everything. But you have 4 pages with 32 encoders each and this is enough to cover the most important scenarios. Overall it works very well and is way better than any other controllers that I have used so far, including Komplete Kontrol and Arturia KeyLab which have a tight integration with their software. TAL plugins for example work great and you can even use the faders on the touch screen without having to map knobs to them. Although the knobs are more accurate. Physical faders would be nice to have too of course, but we can't have everything I guess.
