I love oats to bulk up meals, they take up so much liquid that you end up with a huge volume of food without too many calories. I have been trying some savory oats recipes but I admit I still prefer sweet ones, it's time to give these recipes a try!
@MonsonMadeThis3 жыл бұрын
Yup oats are great for that reason. If you do give any of these a try, let me know what you think!

All three dishes look delicious! I prefer my oats savory as well. I usually just toss some shredded zucchini and spinach into my oats (or more recently, oat groats) and stir in sambal oelek. It's my current favorite breakfast. I LOVE broccoli rabe!
@MonsonMadeThis3 жыл бұрын
Love the idea of the zucchini. The first tests of the chocolate pudding variation had a whole apple grated up in it. It was good, but too much effort. Haha. I'm going to have to try the zucchini, though. Great way to bulk the dish up and add some more fiber and nutrients. Thanks!

I've never been a fan of oats, and I decided to start playing with them to see if I could prepare them in a way that made me like them. For me, the key is to not overcook them. Most porridge is paste, and I stop them from getting to that point. The broth and seasoning covers that "oat" flavor, and keeping the oats al dente makes them feel more like a risotto or a congee. Give these a go! You might find out that you're secretly an oat person!

Love the chocolate banana peanut butter oats. I used almond butter and added a bit of maple syrup. It was great for breakfast this AM.

Thanks! That's what started this all off... I started playing in the kitchen, trying to make something sweet, but without the sugar. The first try had a grated apple in it, too, and that was really good. Too much work in the end, though. Haha. I got to where I was making it a couple of nights per week, and I thought, let's see where else I can take this...

I LOOOVE oats and as soon as I saw the thumbnail with some savoury recipes I knew I was going to enjoy this video even more :D I must say, I was super reluctant to give the concept of savoury porridge a chance but it is just fantastic :D My faves are flavoured curry-style (of various varieties) or herby, Mediterranean-style (also many options here) but it seems there is a lot more to explore! I am definitely ready for an Asian inspired one and will experiment with your recipe for sure! . Anyways, thank you for another fab video Michael! Stay safe and have a wonderful week ahead!

There are so many places savory oats can go! For me, the trick is to not overcook them; to leave them with a bit of chew left so that they have kind of a rice-like texture. Not that fully broken down oats aren't delicious, I just like a bit more texture. My steel cut oat video has an Indian and a Mexican-style chili. Those same concepts can be translated to this rolled oat version as well. The possibilities are endless! Thanks for the love!

@@MonsonMadeThis You're welcome! I really feel like people would benefit greatly for swapping out, say, the white rice at dinner for oats, right? They're quicker and I'm only guessing more healthy.

This looks so good, and quick and easy. I've gotten into barley lately, do you have many recipes in which you use barley? You're getting really thin, looking good.
@MonsonMadeThis3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, I bought some a few months ago, and I've made it, but I haven't' really found a way to make them that I can't live without. I need to give them a few more tries, I think. Right now, it's all about the black pearl rice for me... I can't get enough of it! If you have any good barley tips or recipes, I would be interested in them. And thank you!
@sarahdee3743 жыл бұрын
@@MonsonMadeThis I use barley in soups, and in place of rice for stir fries, curries etc. I haven't worked up any particular barley recipe. I just really like the mild nuttiness and texture.

Ok...this is the 2nd or 3rd time i heard you say CSA box! Is that from a farm here in Nv?? Could you please share where you get your Csa box???
@MonsonMadeThis3 жыл бұрын
Haha. Yeah. CSA stands for "community supported agriculture", and it's basically a produce delivery service that comes directly from the farm. Here's the one that I have. You sign up per season... www.cluckitfarmlv.com/ NOTE: I should have done more research on them before signing up... They do raise chickens and sell eggs... (The name didn't' give it away?!) I obviously don't buy the eggs, but it seems like the farm itself and the produce is being sustainable grown. After this season is up, I'll look for other options.
