I also was really surprised when I saw the prices at face records but I found Hako Yamasaki vinyls there that I didnt see anywhere else!! so yeah it was indeed worth it for the selection haha. also really like the cozy vibe of this video, thanks for the cool recommendations!

That Shibuya back-alley with the second Face Records location is my favorite place in all of Tokyo. I forgot the name of the street, but it's low-key, off to the side and has amazing vibes all around. As of about a year ago, it had another vinyl shop right across from it, and around the corner there was a really cool music bar.

I scoured every Book Off and HMV i could get to for the two weeks I was there this year, and what i couldnt find but *really* wanted, I got from Tower. Came home with like, 70 CD's. Overshot the luggage weight limit for my flight too lol

Yeah, I just put all my records in my carryon luggage, and it weighed almost the same as my luggage --but I don't regret it one bit. my wallet does look a lot emptier though

i’m curious as to why tower records wasn’t covered in the video although being featured in the intro and outro, is it because it’s too obvious? in any case, great video!! i’ll have to stop by HMV next time i’m in tokyo

Yeahhh, I just never found anything there that I actually like, so I didn't really mention it in my video. The reason I featured it was because it's really iconic and striking, but that's about it. thank you for your kind words though 🙏

It's for sure a great place to find CDs and reissues of records, but first prints and older prints are harder to find --especially since it only takes up the back corner of the floor 👍

If you're near the Chiba side, "BOOKOFF SUPER BAZAAR Vivit Minami-Funabashi Store" is pretty good. It's further away from most places tourists go to. If you're in the Yokohama side, then "BOOKOFF SUPER BAZAAR Kokudou 1gou Tamagawaohashi Store" is really good; you'll see a good amount of tourists here, since it got popular on Instagram. If you're willing to go further, then the HARDOFF at "Eco Town Hachioji Owada" is probably the best BOOKOFF branch I've gone to. Aside from those, in central Tokyo, "BOOKOFF Ikebukuro Sunshine 60 tori Store" was probably the best one I went to. But most BOOKOFFs have a record section, and they're always in good quality (not scratched or warped) compared to the ones in the US that I've gone to. I'm sure you can find something good in any BOOKOFF you go to though. You just have to know that some BOOKOFFs keep the best records in a glass case, and you have to ask an employee to get in it. The record section is also divided into two sections: the records that no one really wants (usually around 500￥) which are labeled with purple-ish dividers, and the 'good' records, that vary in price, are labeled with black dividers. Those are then further divided by Western and Japanese, then are even further organized by artist names. The most popular artists also usually have their own divider name (like Yamashita Tatsuro and others, if you can even find theirs since people buy those first).
