I made two with 2” and effed up. I was gonna weld a couple new ones up with metal spike legs but what I really need to make are two more from 1-1/2” PVC which I believe is superior after seeing this video. I love how you let people fight the bigger fish FROM the rod holder. That demo of you putting your weight on it in a backward lean sold me 100% on the usefulness of these. Awesome dude. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I also use this technique but with my penn senator 14/0, but I also drilled a hole and put a bolt through it. I did this because the reel is so heavy, it likes to spin in the holder. It holds just like when you take the rod out and put it in the harness. Works great!

@@GulfCoastNation my 130 combo is 25lbs on the scale and bends the heck out of pvc40. I tried to get 80 but its to expensive and not sold locally in 1 1/2. Im positive a big strike will take out schedule 40 with my 130 in it. Id keep my 80 in them with heavy drag and never had a issue. I often spread my rods out on the beach so im a 100yd dash a way or more at times. You know your good with the metal rodd holder. You can reel in with the 130 in the metal rod holder and its super easy. You can also pump the rod holder up and down like a post hole digger and get it to go in with no hammer. They are heavy though.

Do you prefer this type over flaring the ends?
@GulfCoastNation
@GulfCoastNation 3 жыл бұрын
The flaring end "fishing" pvc pipes are brittle and thin. They break and don't have any flex to them. No Bueno. Now you can take a 2inch pvc end cap, heat the end of your 1.5 inch rod holder and flare it out yourself by pushing the pvc cap end against the heated 1.5inch pvc and then letting it cool

Can you explain mouse trap? Those reels look like they got a lotta drag do you use 10-15lbs entire fight? Also when fighting shark do you reel in 1 speed or two?
@GulfCoastNation
@GulfCoastNation 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Mouse trapping is setting your shark bait at around 5-8 pounds of drag for when they take the bait! Traditionally we use very little drag to let the shark eat the bait with little to no pressure. We use 55-60 pounds of drag fighting big sharks. Normally staying in 2 speed unless we need the low speed when we are really tight trying to turn the fishes head to come in.

Howdy from Texas! New to the lever drag game, been using star drags my whole life. Quick question, where do you leave your drag setting when waiting on a bite? I'm running a PENN Squall 50VSW. Preset is at 25lbs at strike 37 at full (I know it's lower than your recommendation, but it's what I've got right now.) I'd imagine free spool is where you wanna be while waiting on a bite, that said, I feel like the current would end up putting a ton of slack in the line. However the lowest drag setting above free goes straight to 7lbs. Any thoughts or recommendations?
@GulfCoastNation
@GulfCoastNation 3 жыл бұрын
Hey We do a video about lever drag reels and setting them here-- kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqi3lpaNq5ycqNE But setting the bait and weight you want the least amount of drag you can get away with, without the waves or current pulling out line! That's a big factor when buying a reel. How it "sets" some reels like the tiagra have a horrible drag ramp issue that makes it very difficult to get it to set right!
@Teamgafftop713
@Teamgafftop713 3 жыл бұрын
@@GulfCoastNation awesome! Thank you so much for the quick response! So do you think setting up at that base 7lbs would work ok? Or is that too heavy? Where do the avets sit at the bottom of the drag range?
@GulfCoastNation
@GulfCoastNation 3 жыл бұрын
@@Teamgafftop713 we don't scale at where they sit. We just go by the feel of it but on a calm day we can grab the line and barely pull and it will be easy so more than that and it might be too much but get to it fast and knock it down
