Yeah, that's a great observation. It's due to how very little movement there is in that shot, just the sword inside of Qui Gon's chest and his shocked reaction.

I think it's also because you have a split second to see it coming after Maul kicks Qui-Gon's arms up. You see Qui-Gon is exposed, you see he has no way to get his guard back before Maul stabs him, and then it happens.The timing is perfect to let you see all this on instinct without lingering on.

My favorite moment in Rogue One is the closing of the shield gate, when Blue Squadron makes a mad dash to get inside the planet's atmosphere. The visuals are awesome, the soundtrack hitting hard, and the blocking is so tight. But most of all, the theme is screaming through. Everyone in Blue Squadron is rushing to Rogue One's aid, but the act itself is a suicide run, since once they succeed in getting planetside they'll be trapped on an Imperial stronghold. It effectively cements the film's themes of noble (and ignoble) sacrifice. Gives me chills every time I watch it.

Best Star Wars scene, I gotta go with the scene in Return of the Jedi when Luke is speaking with Vader before they enter the throne room. So many great lines of dialogue as Luke tries to pull Vader to the light. And it includes one of my favorite Vader lines: “It is too late for me, son.” Not only is this the most vulnerable we’ve seen Vader up until this point in the original trilogy, but it also gives Luke pretty solid proof that Vader CAN be brought back to the light. Because someone who truly believes they’re in the right wouldn’t say something like that.

The opera scene in Revenge of the Sith. I love how iconic “the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise” has become. The atmosphere is so chilling too.
@Ultima234316 сағат бұрын
For RotS, I have to highlight the Opera Scene (though it's been done here already). It really shows Palpatine at his most cunning and manipulative. Even though Anakin's trust in the Jedi order is continuing to strain, Sheev runs into a brick wall trying to straight up convince Anakin that the Jedi aren't so different to the Sith. So instead, he takes his own experiences and reconstitutes it into something like a distant, ancient story to convince Anakin that the dark side has the answers to his fear of losing Padmé, all while not sounding overly flattering of a Sith Lord. For TLJ the scene I love is when Luke is still moping, and R2 plays the projection of Leia asking Obi-Wan for help all the way from ANH. It's nostalgia done way better than any of the other pandering of the sequels, because it serves as a reminder of how Luke became a hero in the first place, while Leia really is in danger once more and needs his help.

Empire Strikes Back: Luke in the cave. It may not be the most spectacular scene in all of Star Wars, but it's the most impactful, revealing, complex, empathetic, and forever haunting. Luke and Vader's fight at the end on Bespin is the result of this scene and the entire depth of his hero's journey is brought to bear in a beautiful, slo-mo shot that shoots unfiltered adrenaline through the viewer's heart.

In my humble opinion, Han Solo getting frozen is the best scene. The buildup is great, from Vader and the Empire being on cloud city, having been tracked by Boba Fett, but there is a lot going on in that scene. Han calming down Chewy, telling him that Chewy acting up is not going to help anyone, and Boba Fett ready to jump in and intervene, but Vader grabbing his gun, trying to keep composure in the whole scenario, knowing he has his own goals with the carbon chamber. Lando unsure if his friend is even going to survive the freezing process, And who can forget "I love you" "I know"

The astroid field scene in ESB. When Han flies into the field, we get a clear sense of the stakes. Everyone believes Han is flying them to their death, but Han's skill and quick thinking prevails. Also William's score here delivers just as much emotional impact as any visual or acting performance.

Brilliant choice for A New Hope. It is absolutely correct that the prison escape is where the characters came together with their highly entertaining and often hilarious dynamic, which is what made the original trilogy special. Note that the sequel trilogy never had such a scene. Its characters were simply anointed in advance and the audience was expected to love them without any real development or personality.

@Princesilk3475 сағат бұрын
I have to disagree on this one, having not watched the Clone Wars. It feels extremely contrived and flimsy. Why can Palpatine order the Storm Troopers to do what he wants when the Jedi have been leading them? Why would they turn on them anyways following this order? Are they mind controlled? And the Jedi couldn't sense this coming? None of them? The group of people who can inherently sense the future and danger? Who fought an entire army of droids and survived multiple times? All of these make this scene unbelievable. It's like Lucas said he wanted all the Jedi to die, so they did. No explanation, just they die. We don't even really know any of the Jedi that die, so we feel basically nothing for them because they are literally nobody's. It's a bad scene of story telling IMO, and I disagree here with Brandon that it's a good scene. After the fact explanations from the Clone Wars don't cut it, the movie should stand on its own.

Alec Guinness does an amazing job having flashbacks of a story not yet told. As the fighting goes on, there's a building sense of desperation, from the moment the massive AT-ATs appear, and every time it cuts from the victory of the snowspeeders taking down one or two walkers back to the soldiers in the trenches getting overwhelmed. Not to mention the slow pace of the almost unstoppable walkers made the Imperial attack seem equally methodical and menacing

Qui-gon meditating during the fight with Darth Maul is a few seconds that colors everything we later see from obi-wan AND Annikan.

For me it’s the Binary Sunset in Star Wars. The quiet intro of the music as we see Luke frustrated. He stops at the ledge and looks beyond to his dream of hope of leaving Tattoonie. The music swells as we feel that same longing. A great character moment, cinematography, music and well just great storytelling!

Another one I like from Episode 7 is the scene where BB-8 ends up having help Finn by giving coordinates to Rey. BB-8's puppet acting is great in that scene--he expresses so much emotion and hesitation in such a humorous way, right up to the thumbs-up with the lighter.

Great job. You are a channel I love more than probably any other I view. IMHO, if I had to pick only ONE Star Wars film, it would be The Empire Strikes Back. It was character driven. They were SO smart in breaking up the team to explore individual characters more. I was hooked from beginning to end. Nothing compares to it. Nothing - but that's me. For me, hands down, the best scene is when Yoda lifts the X-wing out of the water. Luke training sequences with Luke and Yoda. I LOVED IT. Character driven. Just two characters talking. No real action but I was totally hooked. Luke was no longer whining as he did in the first film. He was just frustrated and battling himself. But then comes Yoda lifting the ship out of the water while Luke stands in awe was just my favorite scene HANDS DOWN in all the films. "that is why you failed'. Great line. John WIlliam's over the top score is just great. Loved it. So, in the minority here.

I recently discovered your channel one thing I like is that you don't use profanity. Many reviewers will feel like they need to use swear words to get their point across, but that just seems like a cheap way to do it, but you are able to get your points across and know that you don't need to use f-words to emphasize your point.

I know a lot of people have already said it, but that light saber battle between Luke and Vader in Return of the Jedi... it's the music. It really is the music.
@chloemchll377419 сағат бұрын
I have thoughts: 1) I almost agree w you about the rescue of Leia/escape from the Death Star sequence, but my problem is how world-breaking the atrocious light saber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader is (literally, the worst light saber duel in the entire franchise, as it looks like two old men swinging their canes at each other.) Therefore, I take the trench run, because there is no flaw in that scene. 2) Two possibilities for Empire- The scene where Han is frozen in carbonite is great, but I think my choice goes to the great Frank Oz as Yoda, lifting Luke’s X-Wing out of the swamp. This moment solidifies Yoda as super-powerful while giving us a glimpse of what Luke’s potential is, if he can learn everything Yoda has to teach him. It also establishes why Luke should listen to Yoda, which makes Luke’s decision to defy Yoda and try and rescue Han and Leia more powerful (while also signaling to us that said attempt is probably doomed, because Yoda says so.) Note- I’m excluding the revelation scene between Vader and Luke because that probably wins for best scene in the series. 3) Best scene in Return of the Jedi is the culmination of the rescue of Han from Jabba’s Palace, out in the desert by the sarlac pit. We see Luke in full Jedi mode having completed his training, Leia gets to be a badass choking the life out of Jabba, Lando gets redeemed for betraying Han by rescuing him, etc. The first act of RotJ is amazing, and it is a shame Lucas had to ruin it by making the second and third acts so overrun by ewoks. 4) Phantom Menace- I agree w you that the duel between Maul and Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, ending in Maul killing Qui-Gon and Obi cutting Maul in half is the best, but I feel it must be emphasized that Duel of the Fates is possibly the best piece of music John Williams wrote for any movie, let alone just Star Wars, and this is the first time we get to really hear it in all its glory. 5) I prefer the scene in the battle of Geonosis where the rest of the Jedi try to rescue Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme, mainly because having all these living Jedi is meaningless unless we see them in a big huge battle. This is a bad movie on the whole (worst movie in the franchise that isn’t part of the sequel trilogy) but that scene is something I always wanted and I remember leaving the theater excited about the movie, mainly because of the sequence that starts with that moment. 6) RotS’s best scene is the rescue of Palpatine, with a close second going to the execution of Order 66, which I dock points from only because all the Jedi, save for Obi-Wan and Yoda, go out like chumps. It would be the best scene if at least one or two of the other Jedi took some of their attackers out before being overwhelmed. 7) The best scene (and biggest wasted potential) of the Force Awakens is Finn discovering he is a potential force user, and standing up to an injured Kylo Ren to rescue Rey. Finn was easily the most interesting of our new three hero characters, and I say that despite this moment being pretty much the peak of his character. 8) The Last Jedi, for all the grief it deservedly gets, is the best of the sequel trilogy, because unlike TFA and TRoS, it tried to do something unique. I actually quite love the whole force projection thing Luke does (my only critique here is that if he dies from doing so, it should be because of something Kylo Ren does and not just as the cost of doing the projection; either have Ren stab or shoot the projection w the idea that it damages the actual Luke, or have part of Ren’s plot be that his people are actively searching for Luke, and find him while he is doing the projection and can’t fight back when they attack him). So, because that could be executed at least a little better, I will go with Rey and Kylo Ren’s team up to kill Snoke and the battle that ensues from that moment. I would consider the moment you chose if Leia still dies from the attack instead of being saved by the Force’s Mary Poppins’ power. 9) TRoS is the worst SW movie. There is no scene I would identify as good (albeit a few got close- if Rey losing control actually killed Chewie instead of it being a fake out I would take that moment) so I’m going to say its credits were the best scene, since it was the only moment I really enjoyed seeing it in the theater. This movie is the reason that as far as I’m concerned, the sequel trilogy doesn’t exist. 10) Rogue One- the reason I’m convinced Disney can actually make good SW movies (I rank it 3rd overall behind only ANH and ESB), I could take any number of scenes from it as the best. The Vader scene is great and was probably my choice the first time I saw the movie; on rewatches, I really love the opening sequence and the sequence where Jin is reunited w her father, however briefly (in particular, I like how we really don’t know what Cassian is going to do in that scene as he is torn between the orders from his Rebel commanders and his growing trust in Jin and her trust in her father). 11) Solo… not sure what scene it would be, but it definitely involves Donald Glover’s rendition of young Lando. Frankly, I think the movie being focused on Lando would make more sense. 12) I agree completely about The Clone Wars movie- the best scene is Anakin finding out Ahsoka is his padawan.
@chloemchll377418 сағат бұрын
Note on RotS- if Anakin/Vader’s duel with Obi-Wan didn’t end in such an unsatisfying way, that sequence would easily be the best in the prequels. Again, it has Duel of the Fates in the background, and most of that sequence- which is really what the prequels were building up toward- is fantastic. But Anakin/Vader losing because Obi-Wan has the high ground was stupid, especially after Darth Maul had the high ground and lost against Obi-Wan in Phanton Menace. Honestly, if Obi-Wan never mentions the high ground and it otherwise ends the exact same way, it would be a lot better.

I think there was a good movie trapped within ep 8 (and the sequel movies that bookended it). The telepathy scene between Rey and Kylo could’ve been great if they hadn’t reversed course and made her Palpatine’s granddaughter in ep9
@chloemchll37746 сағат бұрын
@@KYeung-be4lw I agree- it isn’t that there’s nothing good in those movies (especially 7&8) but rather nothing that could have been good gets fully realized. If episode 7 starts with Luke’s Jedi training and the fall of Ben Solo, then time jumps into the period with Rey and Finn and Poe, the whole trilogy works much better. I don’t mind Rey being a Palpatine, but telling us she’s from nobodies only to later tell us “psych! she’s actually the Emperor’s granddaughter” was just awful. I think there could have been a great storyline where Darth Maul is actually the villain behind the curtain (the actual dark side power, posing as Snoke or using Snoke as his apprentice as a means of getting to Kylo Ren) and you could have had a central force user three way w Kylo representing the dark, Finn (who absolutely should have traveled with Rey) representing a weak in power but strong in mind, resilience, or virtue light side, and Rey torn as the most powerful user stuck in the middle, being influenced by both Finn and Ren. I’m even okay with the idea of Palpatine returning, but it needed to develop. If Kylo’s plan in ep7 is to find a way to revive the Emperor who can complete his dark side training, and he achieves it at the beginning of episode 9, it would work at least reasonably well and would give the Dark side a clear motivation/goal for their actions beyond just the naked quest for power. The bones of a good trilogy is there, but Disney rushed it out the door (especially Force Awakens) trying to recoup their investment after buying Lucasfilms, and overreacted to bad fan reactions when there was always going to be negative fan reaction to any new idea in such a beloved series, that it ended up taking good ingredients and cooking it into something that, at best, barely passes as edible and at worst is unfit to even serve to animals.

In Ep II:AotC, I like it when Padme professes her love to Anakin in a way that cannot be misunderstood as they are taken out to the arena of their excecution. It's so dramatic and romantic (mind, in the real way of the 1800s cultural era) and it's a pivotal moment as Ani's love for Padme IS the driving factor for the entire saga, and when she returns it, it is soul crushingly beautiful and so bittersweet, because now he is at the mercy of things beyond his control and he's trapped in the web of fate in a way that he is completely clueless of until it's too late.

In the OT, my top 3 scenes. I realize I like some of the quieter moments/swells of music or backstory building. SW ANH: I think this is probably an unpopular choice, but any scenes with Alec Guinness are magic. The first conversation where he tells Luke about his father and the Jedi, how Vader 'killed' his father, how he's 'now more machine than anything else.' It sets up so much familial history, and of course foreshadows Obi-wan's own death at Vader's hands. I love the calm of Guiness voice. I wish we had more time with him in the films, but maybe the little we do makes it more precious. ESB: Yoda lifting the tie-fighter. The music, the magic, the awe that both Luke and the audience feel when we see Yoda do what is seemingly impossible. It's the largest show of the force in action in the films yet (I think?) The strength and belief of doing things that seem impossible - it's such a hopeful moment. But also a bit sobering, with the audience getting a glimpse into Luke's immaturity as a burgeoning Jedi: “I don’t believe it.” “That is why you fail.” He is not yet ready, but he COULD be great. Chills. RotJ: I like the scene you chose, but for me, it's the denouement directly after Vader has thrown the emperor down the shoot, he sits dying, and he finally removes his helmet. We see an old, sickly man, but real, human, a father looking at his son. Luke's still trying to go a step further, trying to get him out of the ship and says, "I have to save you." Vader responding with, "You already did", and a peaceful death, while a melancholy refrain of the imperial march plays in the background... chills, magic. Every time.

There are two scenes I can watch over and over again. From the Empire strikes back, when Han charges off into the cold night to rescue Luke despite everyone telling him it is certain death and he exclaims, ‘then I’ll see you in hell!” It is what makes the original trilogy so great. On the backdrop of a galactic war, these friends will risk everything to save each other. It made them real. Made them family. Made them vulnerable. The other scene is from the return of the Jedi when Luke’s plan to rescue Han is reaching its climax and Luke gives Jabba one last chance to surrender. Luke is now a full Jedi. From the innocent water farmer to a Jedi master; it is a beautifully realized character arc.

Honestly, one of my favorite scenes in the saga doesn't involve any action. It's the scene in Ben's home when he first tells Luke about the Force and lies to him about his father. It's pure exposition, but it so dramatically sets the lore for this galaxy and made me buy in to the entire adventure.

Two of my favorite scenes are in Attack of the Clones. The first is the speeder chase scene where Obi-Wan and Anakin chase the assassin. The chase through the city is breathtaking, and the sounds that creators engineered for the scene are fantastic. The second is the duel between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett on the outside of the platform city on the water planet.

Best scene in "Rise of skywalker" is the lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo while on two different planets (using force communication or something), and when Rey slashes her environment it gives her location away to Kylo. It's a really good scene that directly progresses the plot with style

My favorite scene has to be the initial confrontation of Luke vs Vader in the Carbon Freezing chamber. "The force is with you young Skywalker, but you are not a jedi yet." We see Vader standing in shadow, just showing his silhouette. He's calm and almost motionless. It's the best initial hero/villain confrontation scene in cinema. The entire fight that follows has a sense of desperation with Luke in a fight for his life and Vader seeming to just toy with him. It's a perfect display of how to make a villain menacing.

My favorite scene from Rogue One is actual when they smash the two star destroyers into each other. My favorite Star Wars scene is Obi Wan facing Darth Vader in New Hope, the team is fighting their way out and Obi Wan knows that Luke will be killed trying to save him. So he gives into the force. Darth is clearly upset and the team gets away. Until this moment the force is a feeling or is used to strangle others. But to disappear and then be a disembodied voice and later a glowy image was awesome!! "More powerful than you can possibly imagine"

4:29 stands out more in that it's so through-the-motions. So soon, they cut to waist-up shots of the two opponents in turn, so you don't really see their moves. It's like they figure you know what a saber fight looks like so you don't need a proper view of this one.

My favorite scene in the initial trilogy (note that regarding the series, I watched up through "Rogue One" and DNF'ed the rest) is in "A New Hope," when Darth Vader starts to choke Admiral Motti and is then ordered to release him by Grand Moff Tarkin. I believe that this is the most important scene of the original trilogy. In it, the audience learns that Admiral Motti is in full agreement with Emperor Palpatine's use of the Death Star as a weapon of mass destruction to keep his control of the empire in place. When he suggests that the empire start using it, Vader immediately steps in and disagrees, arguing that use of the force would be a more effective way of doing so. The audience is left to guess whether Vader believes that use of weapons of mass destruction is acceptable but burdensome and cumbersome, or if he disagrees with it on principle. Up to this point, Vader has appeared to be essentially Sauron, a physical manifestation of all that is evil. This scene is the first indication that although he believes the galaxy should be run as an empire, he doesn't necessarily agree with how Palpatine is doing so. In spite of this and the later scene in which he suggests to Luke that they could rule the galaxy as father and son, the trilogy does an excellent job of keeping the focus on Vader's sheer and utter ruthlessness, so much so that as a kid, I was shocked when Vader betrayed Palpatine at the end. Thus, I view the dialogue between Vader and Motti as being the most important dialogue of the entire trilogy.
