The free homerooms the BeatJunkies have done last year are super useful. I passed the last french lockdown doing one lesson per day. Very nice to get along with some scratches that gave me a lot of headaches when first started.

I signed up the the BJIOS last year when they had the pandemic deal which gave both record pool and scratch academy membership for the yearly price of the academy so I agree with your assessment.

Great video! I really think Vekked and BJIOS are the best resources, as their videos and articulation about their subject is well thought out. A lot of the ’teachers’ out there are masters of the craft, but explanations/lessons tend to be long-winded and confusing. What happened to Digital Vertigo? I left because there was too much political ranting going on, and less about turntablism, but it definitely is/was a great source of info.

Yeah shame about DV. The main admin of the site started to go a bit Poll Pot and started banning everyone etc. Everyone left after that and it just dispersed.

Yeah he has a good channel. You really feel like your learning stuff at the same times as him. I find D-styles best to watch and try to mimic. Some of the best flows so funky plus technical when its needed.

Hi Si, I would like to start with scratching, but I know nothing about it (except that I like the sound of it). What gear do you recommend I should have? My intent is to incorporate the scratching in the music I create in ableton (a music software), so I heard about TRAKTOR SCRATCH A6 (and/or traktor pro 3), which seems reasonable. So my question is: do you think that I could learn scratching on such devices (if you know them or have heard about them), or would you recommend to stick to real turntables to get the best experience (in which case do you have any advice about which one to start with). Thanks in advance. In other words, do you know how the traktor stuff compares to real turntables as far as scratching quality?

I'd always recommend turntables first if you can afford it. They're by no means necessary though. Dvs is really good these days if you have a good enough computer. There's always the portablism route too. That's probs the cheapest way to get your hand on the real vinyl feel

@@SiHargreaves Thanks for the answer. I didn't know about portablism. But I finally opted for serato DVS, with the ableton interaction in mind, so I purchased (with my quite limited budget) a Pioneer DJ PLX-500-K for the turntable (could only afford one), and the Numark Scratch for the mixer (it has serato dvs support). I've also subscribed to qbert's artistworks website, which you mentionned, so thanks for the information.
