Was watching another video and the gentleman basically made these exact points. I adjusted my seat in my Mazda 6 and WOW what a difference! I've never felt more connected to my Mazda! And thankfully Mazda redesigned the seats for my 2018 and made them badass and comfortable. I'll be driving like this from now on! Excellent seating position for engagement and feeling connected to the road!

If you guys think seating is not important, IT IS!!! I recently had a sear sitting on platform unbolted, and the confidence it takes away is unreal. Just bolting it down probably raised my cornering speed 20mph lol. It's my daily but I think it is pretty important for anyone to have a seat the locks you in. Side supports also made a huge difference... Try to make a seat that makes you feel like your welded to the car and you will get very fast and responsive. not to mention SAFE!

I'm 6'7" tall. It's always the same for me... seat all the way back and down, and wheel all the way up and out. If I'm lucky, there's maybe enough room for me to drive the car. LOL!

5'1" with short legs, I'm in a completely opposite hell. Have to get so close to the wheel so I don't stretch my legs too much. On the bright side I can drive kei cars pretty easy

I know your pain, I'm 1m95(don't know huw much feet that is), and indeed, it is always the same... When I drive my sisters Citroen C3, it is all the way back, all the way down, and I'm still cramped in it... But whatever car I drive, if I need to take passengers, well, it is impossible te take more than 2 :p

Even though I'm "only" 6' driving my Lotus Elise is needlessly difficult, the seat has so little adjustment that I had to buy a racing seat which is only marginally better and I bought a removable wheel that puts it about 1.5" back from stock which helps but not a lot, which sucks but gladly I've got a GL63 with huge adjustability in seat and wheel so it makes it very easy.

I've been driving with these techniques since taking anti-slip driving courses in Europe and this is exactly what they say. But in Dutch. Wish I could afford to take more of these driving/ racing classes and wish that drivers ed would integrate some of the skills that Team O'Neil does. Our roads would be much safer

the gripe I always try to play around with is my lower back support plus seating angle of the back. With the constant clutching in the city driving, my lower back can kill at times, but I feel like part of it is seating position. Haven't nailed it yet.

All the womens out there should watch this before driving! :D Most of the time they're as close as they can from the wheel. If they ever crash they could even get killed by the airbag because most of them don't even let enough space to let it out proprely. Same for older most older people.

What's up Team O'Neil? I'm a 20 year old kid looking to get into rallying. I just want to thank you guys for all the information you provide here on your KZbin channel. It's really helpful and much appreciated!! Thank you very much! Also, for anyone who might be reading this, what are your thoughts on picking up a used 350z to use for entry level Rallycross and maybe some stage rallies when after I gain some experience?
@Teamoneilrally
@Teamoneilrally 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brendan! A used 350z would be a great choice, solid performer that could also do track, drift, hillclimb, autocross... You'd have a lot of options to take the car out and have some fun. Our only recommendation is to just take a close look at the suspension choices that are available for rally applications... We aren't experts with that suspension but I know it doesn't have a lot of travel stock, also for rally you're going to want to raise the car an inch (or two or three even maybe) and not sure how exactly you're going to do that. Someone has figured it out and you'll find the info if you look for it, hopefully there's an affordable bolt-in solution!

i believe everyone into performance /track driving should drive on the street in the same position for training purposes. You won't be used to it if you drive 95% of the time on the street in a different driving position compared to when you are on the track. ' Therefore, the seating position should be comfortable enough where if you do endurance racing you have no problems with. You are able to utilize all the pedals with still a bent at the knee when the pedals are fully depressed. The headrest/seatback is also set to where you are able to wear a helmet comfortably without the seat upsetting your position due to the headrest pushing against the helmet.

I’m 6 maybe 6ft 1 and just found a perfect position in my s3 after months of ownership. Always used to sit low and pull the wheel out and down but it the wheel felt a little far. Now I raised the rear of the seat cushion up a few inches and the seat back to a pretty upward position and find it’s perfect.... never had this problem in my e90 335 coupe or my Infiniti g35 coupe in the past.

I don't know if anyone can help with any suggestions but, I have a '88 e30 with the sport seats which have quite big bolsters. when I steer, these bolsters kind of get in the way and make some turns akward.

ma - scalia Can you adjust them at all? If you can you should probably soften them so they hold you in place but don't feel awkward
@Krakatov
@Krakatov 7 жыл бұрын
ma - scalia in a lot of cars you can do a "foamectomy". Basically opening up the seat (hopefully your seat has a zipper!) and removing some of the foam from the bolsters. You can also use this technique with spray adhesive to add support to other locations like lumbar support.

I often see people sitting too low in day to day driving,, especially Golf drivers. :) Not only it is dangerous but the center of gravity of the car is usually much higher than where they are located so it does not feel sporty at all contrary to what they believe. Some of the best racing drivers sat high(er), so really no need to sacrifice visibility for cool (really stupid) look.
