There's an example of that in Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The Destroyer is a boss you fight but when you unlock him you get the mini Destroyer who's not all that impressive. He's not even a big fig despite the fact this was the game that introduced them as playable characters. And Venom got two forms so it would have been possible to do the same with Destroyer but apparently not.

You actually can play as Han Solo (frozen in carbonite) in LEGO Star Wars II, all you do is go to the Jabba’s Palace level in free play mode, turn on extra toggle, and hop around as him as long as ya want!

The Dragon Dance figure reminds me of what I used to do. I take a minifig and remove the legs before placing the torso onto a 2x4 brick and then place the legs underneath it with a second pair of legs at the back for a Centaur.

I can understand that Kraken and that Giant cat from LEGO ninjago game are not playable. Of course there could be a level designed for them, although playing as regular cat in lego game is a bit odd. But playing as Dementor, Big Sauron, Balrog and other unused characters that still could be somehow packed into the levels would be nice.

Also (for some reason) Anakin Skywalker (Damaged) is only playable in the mobile port of LEGO Star Wars TCS, listed as Anakin Skywalker (Dark Side) but it’s the exact same minifigure

fun fact the han solo (carbonate) can be unlocked in the mobile edition, with one of the things you can buy along with super gonk, money boosters, and mini kit locators. It might also be in the normal version, because well it’s probably only an unused character in LEGO Star Wars 2, and not the complete saga as well as anakin damaged being the same case for the Mobil game but instead it’s money you have to pay
