The best sequencer UI object in Max

I was wondering why no one was talking about it, I was trying to make a sequencer and ended up using this object It’s pretty good. Watching your video now :)

truly, it's a game changer. the combo of this object with all of the signal driven sequencing stuff in my other videos (e.g. clock modulation like the chaos clock or bouncing ball rhythms), pattern generators (e.g. rtt.emask~) is so poweful!

I love this, thank u! I have been looking into this object alot but the thing with sequencer is that I think most of the users wants their own kind of way of sequencing things. Some people like Trackers, some people don't.. Some are into Step Sequencers etc, I would like to have an object like this but making it more customized for my needs.

Do you think Max could use better tools for making custom UI elements? Because, here you're basically using live.step as a visualizer of data. I mean... I guess, hypothetically you could use jitter to visualize the data... An interesting thought... I have not even touched jitter once, but maybe I ought to look into how jitter could be used not only to make visuals for audiences but to make visuals for myself. I took linear algebra, I've programmed GLSL shaders... I'm sure I can figure it out LOL. I was just thinking about how you also had to bring in an image you made in Figma in a previous video, and thought that Max could really use some basic built-in vector graphic tools for that sort of thing. I'm not a Max power user so if this sort of stuff is already possible I'd love to know. Vector graphic UI elements that are responsive and can be part of the Max ecosystem would be cool.

That would be a good Idea because I think we all more or less have our own criteria for how a good sequencer should be according to your needs. I like that there is some tools like this out there!

check out the jsui object! this is the way most folks make custom UI objects in Max with javascript. jsui includes built-in methods that detect interactions like clicks and drags. the live.* UI objects also have a feature called jspainter, which allows you to take over the display of UI objects like live.dial

Philip, thanks for this series on sequencing. This is mostly [OT], but I keep hearing your keyboard which sounds like it uses Cherry key switches. In an earlier video, it was loud and very clear. I've looked for a Mac compatible cherry keyboard in minimalist configuration (something like 48 keys, no numeric pad) but struck out. Any advice would be gleefully rcvd! Tnx

Hey Phil, I have this idea for a specific sequencer for max that I haven’t seen anyone do before. Ai I would like to make it but don’t have any experience, what would you recommend?
