I don't usually use touch screens either, but there's a cool feature called touch pad. Essentially, when you are using the EVF, you can activate the whole screen, or only the right side of the screen (portrait or landscape), so that you can use the touch screen like a joystick. It makes moving the focus point that much more convenient. It takes a little getting used to, and it's a bit of a reach if you shoot portrait with the shutter button below, but I find it a saves a decent amount of time when adjusting focus. You can also set the touch pad so that it moves relative or absolute to where you touch the screen.

Agree I use that feature as well on my APSC Sony bodies. Nice to have for sure without having a physical joystick.

Great video but I’m a little confused. When you were showing the part about minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO your camera was displaying the shutter speed numerically. On my Sony A7CR it it shows words “Standard” “Fast” and “Faster”. Why is that?
@DylanBlackburn10 ай бұрын
That’s interesting! I haven’t seen that yet… was your camera set to Aperture Priority or something else? I’ll see if I can figure out why…
@henrisilberman69010 ай бұрын

Thank you very much for the video. I want to ask you about the Sony 24mm 2.8 G and Sony 50mm 2.5 G lenses for this camera (Sony A7CR). Are they capable of decent work and display 61 MP? Or is this a pointless waste of money and is it better to take the 33 MP Sony A7CII? Thank you
@stevenwaldstein224910 ай бұрын
So I ask why do you think lossless compressed RAW reduces Dynamic Range compared to uncompressed RAW? What is your reference for this? Also why not just set “ISO Min SS” to 1/125 or 1/250 when in Aperture Priority and leave it ISO in Auto. Also what setting are you assigning to the trash can to center the AF locus point? Thank you for the video.
@DylanBlackburn10 ай бұрын
Lossless compressed does not seem to reduce dynamic range as per my previous where I go more in depth on the topic. Regarding the ISO Min SS, that’s what I say to do in the video so I’m not sure what you’re asking. Lastly, focus standard. Thank you for watching!
@stevenwaldstein224910 ай бұрын
@@DylanBlackburn Thank you for the reply. I guess I miss understood you on ISO Min SS. I thought you were just setting your ISO and not this menu item. May take more time but helpful if you show users the actual menu item your setting. At least for me as I watch/listen. Keep your videos coming.

@@DylanBlackburn Why is it that when even on auto ISO, my shutter speed still drops below the minimum 1/125 when using aperture priority? I been getting a lot of blurry photos trying this out in street photography due to shutter speed dropping below set minimum

I’m finding the panel behind the screen to run warm when on and idle. Battery life seems to be quite a bit worse than on my a7c too. Wonder if we were just lucky with the way the OG a7c sipped battery. Are you finding this at all?
@DylanBlackburn10 ай бұрын
That’s to be expected when you put much more powerful internal specs into a body the same size as the original A7C. That panel running warm is the case for just about every newer Sony camera, they make some fans that suction onto that back panel. But I’m not planning to shoot any video with this camera so it would be pointless to buy so I can’t speak from experience owning it. Battery life is solid enough, go out shooting for an evening I’m left with about 70% charge when I get home.

@@DylanBlackburn I’m out in the forest with my son testing today. I’m using the a7c ii and loving it so far. The feel of the grip alone makes the upgrade worth it for me. Battery an eems to be more reasonable today - probably because I’m not sitting there watching it go down. Funny how we can see things with such a critical eye when we don’t allow ourselves to focus on sheer enjoyment.

Hey Dylan! Thank you for sharing your experience and making a nice content! Appreciated 🙏 I’ve just got my first serious stuff for shooting both photographies and videos, after watching you felt like I have a trust on your choice and went for SONY A7C II accompanied by SIGMA 28-70 mm (initially was planning to go for Tamron 28-75 mm) I feel a bit inconvenient with the grip on my new camera and would like to make it more confident with this additional bottom platform. It looks solid and just like original extension of the camera. Didn’t find the link for it in the video description, maybe you could share it or add to the list of gear) I’m pretty much sure it will be useful for other beginners too 😊
