The Best Show should have a bi-annual Tom and AP Mike episode, where they just sit and take calls for the full 3 hours.
@griffinbur11183 жыл бұрын
The dry humor in Mike's point that "usually that advice [that Pigpen gave during the Dead's jam] boiled down to, you know, 'quit playing "pocketball" and get with the ladies'" slays me.

minor correction: pocket pool. lol.

best thing about the footage you chose is that there's a point where the camera is focused on the piano player (keith godcheaux?, i think), and he just has this look of faraway horror on his face, like he just realized what he was complicit in.

to be fair to Pigpen, he said “I’ve been out on a four day creep: drinkin’ and gamblin’; carryin’ on all next week.”
@TheElegantDandyFop8 жыл бұрын
I have listened to this four times. Comedy gold.

It's been years since I first listened, and I still get "four day creep... this guy's a 24/7 creep!" stuck in my head periodically

The best part of this is listening to Mike laugh uncontrollably.

I just realized that this fully reminds me of the breakdown rap on Black Flag "Who's Got the 10 1/2?"
@cybertronian20056 жыл бұрын
Grateful Dead were a big influence on that period of Flag, particularly Greg Ginn

Ron "Pigpen" McKernan was one of the founding members of the band, not some goober who showed up in late 1967 and hung around until he croaked in 1973.
@phatstax20115 жыл бұрын
Funny how this music is still being played live by both the surviving members, thousands of cover bands, both national and local, as well as new jam bands everywhere. This music is still inspiring young people while all the classic rock crap of the 70's that this idiot thinks is better is becoming less and less relevant to younger generations.

Beautiful work. I admit, I was a little disappointed seeing the actual Pigpen in this. I always assumed he was some grimier version of Avalanche Bob, not a oily Nugent type. Yuck. Thanks!
