It's because Paul Dini left. He wanted to use Scarecrow and Hush as the main villains, but Rocksteady really wanted to do the Arkham Knight, which most likely led to a disagreement that caused Dini to not be involved in anything after the base Arkham City. The devs probably forgot about Hush until the very last minute and quickly slapped the mission together since they didn't need to make a new character model from scratch and hire a new VA. That would explain why the mission comes out of nowhere and is so forgettable. Dini probably also wanted to use Harley and Joker's baby as a key plot point in the last game, but it was retconned in HQ's revenge as either a miscarriage or a false positive bc he didn't write for it. It's a shame bc whatever Paul had in store would have probably been much better than the terrible Jason reveal that was hyped up for 90% of the story.

@@bydlakbolszewik847 It’s never been confirmed that Dini would have used Hush as the main villain in Knight. It’s possible, but no one knows for sure and even Paul Dini said on twitter that they never got to the point of discussing plans for the third game.

@@darkfire7660 even if he wasn't the main villain, Hush would have still been an important character in Dini's AK. The new writers clearly didn't care one bit for him and they prob only added the mission to avoid disappointing the players, but ironically players were more disappointed with the way he was handled than if he wasn't in the game altogether. I wish they saved him for season of infamy instead of mad hatter. These missions had some great writing so he could have had a satisfying conclusion but we're stuck with one of the worst side missions in the franchise

In Arkham Asylum, I consider it to be three side-missions. Riddler (Riddles and Riddler Trophies), The Spirit of Arkham, and the Interview Tapes. While they're all on the same list, to accomplish the ending of Riddler, you only need the trophies and riddles. The interviews and the spirt are two different things in my eyes.

One thing is for sure, freeze is the best side rouge in every game he’s in. Your complaints about his mission in knight are actually my favorite parts. The militia feels like an overwhelming force that could take over a major US city.

My top 5 side missions from Arkham (in no particular order): 1) all the random murders in Origins where you have to put the whole video together in Detective Mode. If you do them all in one-go then it’s pretty tedious, but still that system rocks and cool to do some actual detective works in these games 2) Deadshot in Origins, get to do more of that video recreations and it ends with an actual boss fight. 3) Professor Pyg. Honestly thought it was Hush doing all the murders again like in City, so it was a nice surprise to see it was actually Pyg. Super creepy and also a fun boss battle. 4) Man-Bat. Really tragic story, but it also tests your detective skills and then finding him through sound is just pretty cool. 5) Riddler for all the games. City and Knight of course are specifically fun because they have the death traps, I love that Knight has you working with Catwoman to figure out those puzzles in particular. But Riddler trophies are the ultimate collectible item, and Riddler as a character is so much fun. Honorable mentions are all the Seasons of Infamy missions. They’re all great, but they do feel like straight-up story extensions more-so than side-missions, like they have a bit more production value and different kind of pacing than the regular side missions. But they’re all great, and honestly could have filled up my top five, but I didn’t quite think of them fast enough. Haha

Totally forgot about the Mad Hatter missions before writing this list, so 100% would have fit them somewhere, perhaps replacing Man Bat. The Arkham City side mission I actually consider canon, tho. Like I always do it as soon as it’s introduced because that feels exactly where the plot should go at that point. So I guess in my head-canon that one in particular is not a side-mission. Haha! But the Arkham Origins mission is iconic and is absolutely the best side mission of that game.

Hush & Azrael were setup to be key characters but we're relegated to side missions. A lot of people were annoyed at Joker's return, though I disagree with it I understand why people weren't happy with it

Personally I've always thought "The perfect Crime" was the best mission in knight especially when compared to similar missions like "Identity Theft" and "Shot in the dark" it's like the better version of the two combined into one. I understand that City was the first Arkham game to have multiple side missions but the fact that two of them are almost exactly the same was kind of boring to me but I also get that you're in a city of blood thirsty inmates so yeah murder is gonna happen 24/7 but the fact that "The Perfect Crime" was the only murder related mission made it stand out more. Also I don't condone murder or violence of any kind but I have to admit the way Pyg had his victims laid out across the Gotham was way more interesting and unique when compared to Hush, how the bodies were positioned, the masks they were wearing, the classical music playing next to the bodies it always just had me thinking "Who or what the f*ck is doing this and why?!" And Finally the fact that it had a boss fight and it was good. Having to fight Deadshot as a boss was underwhelming and the fact that Hush was left on a cliffhanger made me a bit upset, now this is more of a biased opinion but I don't like cliffhangers on Arkham games that much I mean the Sequel mission to "Identity Theft" bad as well. But Pyg's boss fight was something special though his introduction alone gave me chills and his Dollotrons are probably the most horrific but also saddest enemies to fight in the Arkham series considering these guys weren't made with special technology or evil magic, nope this is the result of surgery and brainwashing used in the most frightening of ways.

You know when you were going over the Hush side Mission in Arkham City, I completely forgot he changed his fingerprints to Bruce Wayne's prints as well so the knife would be attributed to him. SO WHY DID THEY MAKE IT A RETINAL SCAN IN ARKHAM KNIGHT. Hush really was wasted in that game he should have been a main villain as intended.

I get the Hush choice, wouldn’t be mine, though. The reveal is great, I love the operating table, but I was so disappointed that nothing came from it, especially cause I completed it after Azrael - what do you mean BOTH of these are just setup for the next game? Come on! Anyway. Hats off to them for making a satisfying conclusion to Mr. Freeze’s story. Incredibly satisfying, very well done, and I really love his boss battles I miss them

For Arkham Asylum, shouldn't the Chronicles of Arkham be the entry that wins best side mission? The narrative bout the Asylum's earlier years is intriguing to piece together and the reveal that Warden Sharp is secretly acting in the stead of Amadeus Arkham to the extent that even Batman finds out only too late as Sharp gets away is well executed. Also, it may be a hot take given the rewind mechanics being involved, but I think the murder mysteries in Arkham Origins should at least be tied as best side mission (probably with Mad Hatter too but maybe also with the Cyrus Pinkney cold case as it was interesting to see how things unfolded) in Arkham Origins. The way the cases pan out is interesting and the emotional weight that comes with the final one-- the death of the Wayne's family friends in Crime Alley by a friend's stalker brings out a great performance from Roger Craig Smith. Is it cheating to use DLC as a side quest? Maybe. Speakin of, wouldnt the tank parts be that which slows things down for it more than the stealth sections? What to use for Battank Forever instead? How bout at least the pre- salon parts of the Pyg mission in which you investigate the luckily deceased. Or the ending of the firefighters in peril mission or the majority of the watchtowers.

Honestly I didn't like the Deadshot boss which reminded me of Citys TwoFace boss, but more annoying. I do agree with Mad Hatter having the best side mission in Origins. Funny enough his side mission feels more like an evolution of Scarecrows feat sequences in Asylum rather than the trippy combat in City which is an observation I just got from remembering all this.

The Hush mission in Arkham city is still effective for comic fans, as the MO bares no resemblance to the comic character... which is for the best tbh, comic Hush is not very well liked and his story is very divisive even without him. It's complicated enough that I don't think I would be able to fit all of the nonsense into one comment, and I vastly prefer the Identity Thief as a concept.

I get all the hate towards Nigma, believe me, there were times when I personally wanted to shoot him between the eyes myself but it also gave me time to play as Batman a few minutes or hell a couple of hours more. I get to be the Bat and explore or revisit the maps more and I enjoyed that very much. To be honest, when I finished Arkham Knight and started NG+, I was so excited that I get to collect the trophies again but that wasn't the case and I was sad 😅 For Asylum, riddles was the only side mission, so it was cool. For City, although I knew the whole Hush story, I really loved it, especially because Conroy did an exceptional job as Hush. I wish they'd used him in Knight as well. For Knight, I liked the Mad Hatter because the visuals were stunning but story-wise Professor Pyg and Mr. Freeze were good.

@@foeinform yeah, is the most underrated batman villain, the main goal of joker (try to make batman kill him) hush made it 3 times in canon 2 even without want, joker 0, 3-0 overkill(after kidnap alfred bats throw him an bat bomb because he say to robin that he is scared, "this is personal maybe more even the joker" besides that, batman never defeat Hush in battle to send him to arkham in an entire earth (new earth) Paul dini know that because in heart of hush, batman and joker are allies against Hush and almost helpless with an pacemaker in his heart, hush win both escaping, for that hush remove catwoman heart because he doesnt deserve her, and is driven to madness when everyone defends batman without knowing that he is a traitor even with the JLA and his plans

Cool video listed below is my list. Arkham Asylum: Spirit of Arkham Arkham City: Zsasz side Arkham Origins: Mad Hatter Arkham Knight: Season of Infimity League of Shadows Side Notes: I like story of Spirit of Arkham, Zsasz realistic side mission using pay phones traveling point a to b, like level of Mad Hatter's side mission and lastly I like that player is given actual say in whether Batman chooses to save Ra's ra's al ghoul or not though I will admit that it's story could have been bit longer and could have made it harder choice to decide final fate of Ra's cause I'll admit story seem to siding with choice to kill ra's vs sparing ra's especially with their respective endings.
