The best skiing 2020 (Zermatt, Switzerland)

At an altitude of around 3883 metres between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia lies the highest ski area in Europe, the Matterhorn ski paradise.
On the Theodul Glacier skiing and snowboarding is possible 365 days a year - something this unique destination, straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy, pulls off with international flair.

Oh man, I spent a ski season there back in 2003. I could quite happily have lived there my entire life. What a beautiful place! Seeing the Matterhorn at 6am every morning was just magical and never the same every day.

@@brendanwalsh826 Does not compare. A black diamond in the United States in a Red run or Intermediate run in Zermatt. The learning curve is that much higher. Going back to the U.S., I was far more comfortable skiing in Mammoth Lakes on any run. The scenery is that much more breath taking in Zermatt; it is worth every penny to go for 10 days and skiing until your life changes. I did that last time, and you just have a different outlook on life. Your relationships with people are different; people see challenges as something scary, but you see them as just part of life. You have a willingness to tackle challenges when you give yourself and your life to the mountain.

@@brendanwalsh826 I don't know if you have ever been to Disneyland, but your time at the Matterhorn should not be defined by your visit to Disneyland. Anytime that someone ignorant says "oh you mean the Disney Matterhorn?", you should be able to proudly say "No I mean the real Matterhorn, the one that I skiied at the base of."

Awesome vid...ive only been Andorra (first ski trip) so this area looks absolutely massive...wondering if would be too daunting for my early teens, (we are newish snowboarders (6 months indoors))?

How hard would you say the red runs are ? I've heard people saying they compare to blues (not super steep, no bumps, etc). Thinking of going there this winter but I'm a lower intermediate, hence my question :)

I think the pistes in Zermatt are generally a bit tougher. High on Kleine Matterhorn it isn't very hard at all hard. The runs further down can be tougher. And in general, I think the Zermatts skiruns fits the colour description.

Really wonderful but not the skiing. On piste is totally intermediate terrain. Do yourself a favor and hire a guide! The Hen Hut is awesome apres ski though.
