First thing i did was spray my dog down with the hose, but he got it bad right near his face and was worried about it being in his eyes, he was vommiting ect. Hosed him down first for sure then looked up what to clean him with and did the washing in the tub. Don't really regret it

I just did this one week ago on THREE dogs and it works. i think the Dawn is because it's a degreaser and the skunk spray is an oil. Also, I reserved some of the mixture and soaked their collars in it and then soaked them in dog shampoo and it totally took the odor out. After this treatment, smell them and it should be gone, if not, repeat. Then bathe the dog.

Thumbs up if your pooch was sitting in a tub of water when you heard the part about not getting them wet. This method actually worked really well, , In retrospect I wish I did it outside on the deck and then rinsed her off there. Any suggestions for getting the odor out of the home?

We heated some white vinegar on the stove then put it in small bowls (cereal bowls is what I used) around the parts of the house that still stunk. It probably just masked the smell, but I much prefer the smell of vinegar to polecat! You can also use this same solution they use in this video on furniture if you know where the smell is coming from exactly.

This literally just happened to me! I had no baking soda so I used peroxide vinegar and Dawn. I heard that the longer it sits on their fur the harder it is to remove. After I ran out of vinegar I washed him with straight dawn and got all of the smell out thank goodness

This absolutely worked! I have a Scottie and I was afraid that his long beard and eyebrows would retain the stench. Happily, with careful application it removed most of the smell. I was amazed at how quickly it knocked the smell down. I found it was crucial to follow the peroxide wipe with a full bath with his regular shampoo. He is a black Scottie and it did bleach his coat a bit, and now he has a red tint to the black. He will be getting his summer hair cut soon, so not a big deal. I'd rather a red Scottie than smell that stench!

Thanks Brian this worked for sure. I let the dog out before I left for work and he got sprayed. I put him in the cage and went to work. Figuring I'd deal with it when I got home. As soon as a got in I was basically told to leave because I stunk as well, even though I could not smell it. If you are around it you will get desensitized to it eventually, which is what happened to me and my girlfriend. She was sent back home as well haha. Boiling vinegar on the stove will get the smell out of your house as well but, it just takes some time.

Stella Dawg, representing Team Canada at 5 AM. That's two hours before the local grocery store opens and 3.5 hours before the drugstore. We only had one 950 ml bottle of peroxide and one small box of baking soda on hand and I wasn't sure if it was best to wait to get more or try with what we had. Stella is about twice the size of Kilo and being a retriever/collie/husky/shepherd mix she's got quite a coat. Worst case being having to do it again, I decided to go for it. It was JUST enough to give her one thorough going over. She's out at the lake now for a couple dock dives to rinse off and de-stress. You could tell almost immediately that it was working. So grateful.

My weimaraner just got sprayed at around 10:30 and took off running because the skunk chased him. I ran to Kroger to get the peroxide and baking soda and knew he'd be back on the porch when I got home. No back fence lol. I went through the process twice plus gave him a bath with 3 different shampoos and conditioners which was probably overkill but it worked. Kids even hugging on him already saying he smells good and its only 3 hours after the stink. Thanks y'all!

This definitely does work. Our ridgeback mix got sprayed right before bed lastnight. The face area is hard to get and it is still lingering on her just a tad but luckily not transferring to any furniture or anything. I will say do NOT premix this solution to have in hand if your dog frequents skunks because the mixture will react snd explode. Also, It can bleach your dogs fur if you leave it on for too long. We washed her throughly, and let it sit for another five min after. She has SOME bleached undertones near her neck where we put a lot of it, but overall she is fine.

👍Thanks for posting. Had to leave it on my dog for about 20 minutes while it cooked off the oily skunk spray & broke it down. Had to use the method three times on our border collie/lab. The skunk spray actually left a brownish stain on black fur. But she still stunk because it was in her mouth too. We sprayed the house with essential oil/rubbing alcohol/baking soda. I wish I had found your video BEFORE Harley was sprayed! The smell is beyond anything I can describe! When she was let out, the the light from the porch illuminated it. He said he saw the spray happen & he said it had a reddish tint. I don’t know if she bit the skunk or what, but she was just unloaded on full blast in the face! Panic set in! We did not know not to get her wet & found this video AFTER finding the recipe for deskunkifying her. Yes, I made that word up. Before she was wet down though, we knew Dawn was the best for animals & that it breaks up oils. He put Dawn on her IMMEDIATELY because we didn’t know about the recipe to kill that smell. As he was rubbing Dawn on her, I feverishly looked for anything to help kill that smell. Then he turned the water on to help lather her up. I found the recipe & I almost cried when I realized I had all of the ingredients! I will ALWAYS keep a skunk kit on hand! Since we didn’t know about not getting her wet because I found the recipe before your video, I don’t know if we made a mistake or not by pre-Dawning her. She’s not too bad at the moment, but I still smell a tiny bit around her muzzle. I wish we could’ve left her outside for a bit, but we could not. The smell is so pungent, I was wretching! As a mom of 4 kids thanks to twins the 3rd time around & probably close to 75 pets over 52 years, that speaks volumes as to how horrible this smells! I’ve smelled MANY horrible things, but this beats everything hands down. It doesn’t even smell like skunk. How do I get the smell out of my house? The yard reeks too! It’s my home that worries me most. I did spray Pooph where she ran to first, but it has permeated every room! The smell is truly overwhelming & I can’t take it! This stuff really works! Last night at 12:30 AM, we were awakened by a strong smell of skunk. To our horror, it was coming from our dog Max. Luckily, I had hydrogen peroxide and baking soda at my house). Unluckily, it was 1 am by the time we got him washed. Your humor in the bathroom as a couple washing & filming poor Kilo was great. I used this on my dog, back in March, it worked excellent! When washing my dog with the solution, I left it on a good 10 minutes, I messaged it into the map of neck & back bone, where the dogs oil secretions come from. Let sweet 10 minutes & rinsed. My dogs fur was so soft & clean. She did have a very slight smell again once she got wet. I waited a few days & repeated the wash.

This is by far the best method that has ever existed, and if you’re looking for a video to save the day, THIS IS IT… I’ve not only been doing it the same way for years, but had to again last night! I follow it up with a second bath the following day, followed with a bath using baby shampoo after that. Soaking the collar in the solution is the only way to save it. Because this usually happens late at night, I now always have a “skunk spray emergency kit” ready to go in a sealed bucket. Keep the NEW box of baking soda further sealed in a zip lock bag so it will be as fresh as possible, and you won’t have to be tracking down the supplies in the middle of the night!

Cannot recommend this enough!!!! This is amazing! Dog attacked the skunk- so it was a VERY close spray😅😅 I used Dr bronners sal suds for the soap and it still worked amazing! I used a quarter cup of soap vs the 1 Tbsp though. Hour and a half later-House smells fine, and the cats are even curled up next to her like always….

I understand it's only 3% but you should never put hydrogen peroxide in the microwave especially seeing as how people have microwaves that vary in wattage, your 3 minutes could be the equivalent of someone else's 1 minute and seeing as how hydrogen peroxide is highly volatile and explosive, this might end up with unintended results. Just use the same recipe and it should work just fine, if you want to heat it up just set the bottles in warm water or let them just sit and get to room temperature.
