Which mods released this year do you think were the best/your favorites? For me, I think you already know I'm a fan of lilson's NPC replacers... and even though there has been insanely good gameplay and immersion mods released this year, these NPC replacers just take the cake for me with their design and thoughtfulness. 🍰🥇

Environment and exploration mods continue to be my favourite way of adding life to new playthroughs. That is if Bethesda stops breaking old mods with updates for a minute!
@BardsCollegeGraduate11 ай бұрын
Aghh the updates always mess everything up, that's for sure! And yeah I do agree with you on that :D
@Akeran11 ай бұрын
Imo it's better to just stick to one version of Skyrim and not updating it further, unless the mod is only compatible for a recent version...
@Mr-tu4cj11 ай бұрын
Yeah I’d just stay at the previous version (1.6…. Something with a 4. I don’t remember lol) and not upgrade ever, or at least not until you’ve finished your game and the update has been out for a while. It’s basically a guarantee that they’ll update a few more times to patch the marketplace, so don’t bother.
@inkyGhosty11 ай бұрын
I do have my Steam game set to only update when I launch, which I never do, only through the mod manager. But every time there's a new version, SKSE has to update, address libraries too. If for any reason you have to uninstall, it's very cumbersome to downgrade versions, etc. BUT the real problem is very old mods that don't get updated anymore. Old mods get split between old versions, and stuff like new physics mods that update to the latest version, or have newer requirements, etc. Every time there is a new number version, it makes it harder and harder to curate your own mod list basically.
@Mr-tu4cj11 ай бұрын
@@inkyGhosty yeah I feel that. That’s why I eventually updated to the previously latest version thinking there was no way Bethesda would update again now that creation club was done 🤦♂️. I did end up downgrading which was pretty easy for me, but now I’ll have to be more careful about which version I download when I start downloading mods again.

A lovely star lineup! Btw I've now watch enough of your content that KZbin is now giving me custom playlists exclusively of you. I'm not 100% sure what it's trying to tell me but honestly I call this a win Btw did anyone tell you how well that Witch outfit fits your character? I was not expecting something so un-Skyrim to fit Skyrim so well I wanna touch on that potion one. You raised a point there where you said the Potions should have individual unique looks. I 100% agree and in fact I even touched on it in my own series. Isn't it odd how almost every drink and potion are in the same bottle shape? Now if it is a drink in a tavern then that's fine. You're not in a rush, you are drinking socially and you have time to look at the bottle to see what you are drinking. But you can't say that for potions. Potions are to be used quickly, chosen fast in the heat of battle or in a crisis like drowning under the ocean from a shipwreck you got trapped in. Don't want to be grabbing a Fortify Archery Potion instead of Waterbreathing because your bottles are all the same and unlabeled In my series I did it this way: Potion enchanters and creators won't know how to craft glass bottles and stuff. As as someone who has worked with creating glass before I can say it's very hard and very very hot. It's two very different things to mix some herbs and forge glass into what you want so it makes sense both artisans won't know eachothers crafts. Which means glass forgers won't know to make different bottles and just mass produce one type. That's not really a problem for potion sellers who can neatly categorise their stock on labelled shelves and so on but the people buying and using them will suffer greatly. So when Anska buys his potions he attaches a different colour and textured ribbon to each bottle so he can see by colour and by feel what is in each bottle. Practical and fast and he's not going to drown by drinking an Archery potion under water. All that said, that glowing bottles in your mod showcase was a lovely touch I will be getting some of these mods. I only found your channel half way through the year so I'm behind on some of this. Thank you for making this video Bard. After getting these, I'm going to continue creating Hannah's cake for her. I've decided to try something new with a Melon flavoured cheesecake. never heard of that one before so this will be interesting

Have fun with the baking, that sounds absolutely delicious!

the best part of these are the cities and its people. I wish more modders do a revamp when it comes to people and staying true to the essence that is Skyrim. I see a lot of mods and mod showcase just doing whatever that is on the mod page showcase and majority of them are just making Skyrim not Skyrim. Too many anime style animations, often ripped from some hyper action eastern RPG. Or just wonky actor import from a western meme or something. Then, you know, the most common of them all, the pervy stuff. I see a lot of character overhauls and they usually just end up being like that. Hyper sexualized everything. Even the old people become young anime super models.

Having been away from modding for most of the year, SkyClimb looks crazy. I had heard of it but I thought they had manually added the climbing locations (which would've still been pretty cool but surely a compatibility nightmare, especially for those of us who like city overhauls). That a procedural way to do it was developed so quickly is impressive. I also really like the "trend" if you could call it that of armor sets that are more based on the cultures of Tamriel. Some look kinda like ceremonial gear more than something to wear into battle, but so do all the super ornate medieval fantasy style armor mods we've had since forever. It's great to have more stuff that reflects the unique aspects of The Elder Scrolls. Have you checked out the NITHI NPC mods? I'm also kinda obsessed with NPC replacers. My last playthrough I basically downloaded every NPC replacer under the sun and manually picked each NPC using EasyNPC. The NITHI and BBs series from nightmarezone were my picks over 90% of the time I think (which is kinda painful considering how much time I spent scrolling through the EasyNPC UI hand picking every single NPC face...), even though I was sometimes picking between 10 or more mods. I feel she has made human and elf NPCs as unique, striking and interesting looking as allonsywisegirl does the beast races and orcs. Dibella's Blessing came out a little bit later and I didn't get to try it (I was still playing but I wasn't going to redo my NPC patch lol) and while it looks fantastic and I'm sure I would've picked some NPCs from it, I still think NITHI is my favorite by far.

Ahh I need to config my NPCs with EasyNPC as well, I tried it one time but never went through with it :D and I'll definitely take a look at NITHI Npcs! (never too many replacers to choose from haha)

@@BardsCollegeGraduate EasyNPC definitely took some effort and trial and error to use (I think I got it right by the third time I used it, which was a lot of time spent lol) but it's so worth it. It's like DynDOLOD and No Grass in Objects to me. Kind of a pain to properly use, and a long effort riiight at the last stretch of making a modlist. But it gives the game an incredible touch when everyone is looking their best and it really ties things together.

Your choice of mods for 2023 is great and understandable! Anyone who follows your videos regularly will not be particularly surprised by the choice of top mods for 2023. And that's exactly what I think is great, because nothing is worse than someone who constantly changes their opinion/views. Always stay the way you are and if someone has a different opinion, that's great! Just don't let other people try to dictate anything to you! Different opinions are the great thing about different people! Speaking of different opinions: Do you have a video planned about the "new update"? What do you think of the new "creations"? Let's hope that Bethesda doesn't plan more updates and thus destroy the mods - once again - and that we get an even better 2024 for the Skyrim community. PS: Okay - there is ONE "surprise": Where is Magpie Manor? 🤔

Thank you! When making this video, I did wonder if there is too much repetition of earlier showcases (well there are a bit), but facts are facts: there just are the best mods I used this year. :D So gotta stay honest! xD You're completely right! I haven't planned a video of the new update at all, as I haven't updated my Skyrim and it's still .353 version. So probably not, and haven't even checked out the creations as I just have 0 interest in them xD And yeahhh Magpie Manor!!! It's not here as I completely cut off the best player homes section of the video - just didn't have enough time :( so sad

@@BardsCollegeGraduate It's okay, don't worry too much. There are so many mods every year and I'm sure there are still some mods that deserve to be mentioned in a "Best of". But only a few people do have the time to watch a 5 hour video, so it is necessary to compromise and leave out some things. I'm glad that there are still channels like yours that still make Skyrim content. And when it comes to house mods, there's also @FebrithDarkstar. She almost exclusively uploads videos about Skyrim and Fallout house mods. I can highly recommend taking a look.

I didn't find myself caring about the NPCs in Sirenroot, the dialogue is too thin and centered on the NPCs rather than the player character, but the puzzles are fun and levels are pretty.

Improved Camera SE looks better than Joy of Perspective, but sadly it glitches my game, so I have to stick to JoP. For some context, I'm using Econte Dual Sheath and when in 1st person with Improved Camera with 2 sheathed swords, I have an extra sword, sticking to the left side of my body. I've tried troubleshooting it in a multiple ways by reinstalling Joy of Perspective with vanilla meshes then uninstalling it, reinstalling Dual Sheath before and after Improved Camera, nothing helps. That is a bummer because Improved Camera works better with the other animations I've got going on, like sheathing/unsheathing, etc.
