I think I saw you mention most of these in their original videos, but I love that you gave me a year and compilation!! There are times you forget to go back and re-watch a 40 minute video from 8 months ago but here you are organizing it into a way to remind me to see which of my streaming services might have these right now!! You are awesome. Thank you.

“Mars Express” (2023) is a great animated sci-fi movie with various themes. My copy was a digital purchase which includes both French and English audio.

@@terrytalksmovies If you haven’t watched “Fantastic Planet” (1973) lately you should watch it again. It’s just a fantastic animated sci-fi and ultimately the peaceful coexistence of two species. It was a French and Czech co-production.

Bangin' list, sir. All of those I've seen are top-shelf (mad love for The Substance and Mars Express) and the rest are gonna make great homework. I Saw Nosferatu Xmas night and was blown away, can't wait to hear your take.

All the ones I've seen from your list, _Mars Express, The Substance_ and _Megan_ are excellent, so I'll probably try and hunt the other ones down, _Kalki 2898AD_ been on Netflix will be the easiest to check out. Regardless of the World situation, hope you have a great New Year

Terry: Interesting choice of films this time around. It seems that "evil" AI is today's "Boogie-Man". Films like " Colossus: The Forbin Project", Terminator/Skynet, and the recent Mission Impossible installment seem to focus on the dangers of AI. Whatever happened to the simpler stuff like "the Red Scare", giant irradiated bugs, and nasty ETs?
@terrytalksmovies18 күн бұрын
Those three were moral panics not real threats. AI is a genuine threat. 😀😉

Mars Express is the only one I've seen so far and it was excellent. There are some great older French animated Science fiction films out there. Les Maîtres du temps (Time masters), Gandahar and Fantastic Planet come to mind.

Haven't seen any of these although i've heard of some. All sound interesting. Got to catch up. I was talking to a friend into sci-fi about how outer space is done to death and the genre should focus on the inner. How tech has changed us, how it's hard to know what's real anymore. I do love dystopian stories but they are done to death. Star Trek started the the optimistic 60s and i suppose we lost that feeling of hope for the future. Such a shame. I've read an essay by a European writer who said he visited the US in the 70s and then again recently and noted how we lost our optimistic, can do attitude.
@terrytalksmovies17 күн бұрын
Optimism is its own reward, pessimism is its own punishment. The future is unknowable but I want interesting ideas about it in my science fiction.

With you on the dystopian/post- apocalypse the genre has been done to death.

Yeah, I'm over it. It's a weird, negative wish fulfillment genre at this stage.

“The Substance” was one of my favorite movies released in 2024. Wildly creative! The last 20 minutes or so it went too far with the Frankensteinish skit. There’s something about Paris-born French female directors with some highly creative albeit cringe-worthy movies. *Coralie Fargeat* - The Substance (2024) - Revenge (2017) *Julia Ducournau* - Titane (2021) - Raw (2016)
@terrytalksmovies18 күн бұрын
It's probably an evolution of the New French Extremity movement of the early 2000s. Great stuff. I want to see what Coralie Fargeat comes up with next.

I watched the original Pulse and then the U.S. remake. I’m going to have to swear off American remakes of films from other countries. How does Hollywood, nine times out of ten, downgrade great stories from every corner of the globe and turn them into, at best, pedestrian viewing experiences?

They're milking the cash cow. That's the simple answer about US remakes.

The science fiction movie you hate the most in the universe was a modestly budgeted film originally, costing half as much as the can't miss success of 1977, DAMNATION ALLEY!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@terrytalksmovies18 күн бұрын
I hate it because it's simplistic, with a binary moral code, it stole ideas, images and characters from much better films and it led to the infantilisation of cinema science fiction for decades.
