One of the things that you mention frequently is the quality of light from high end modifiers. I would love to see a video where you compare the light quality from a broncolor softbox to that of a lower cost godox or similar softbox. Same with the p70 vs a similar sized cheaper version. Even if we don't have the same equipment you're comparing to, we can see what you're looking for in terms of lighting quality. Thanks!

We've talked about that box and my history with it. £25k?? That seems OTT though!

As separate items they all kinda work price wise against the profoto kit, apart from the box section costing £5000 and the grid being £1000, which is insane for some honeycomb plastic.

Thanks for talking about the Broncolor box. I used one at my boss’s studio in the late 1970s and I miss it. Nothing else like it in world.

These lights are, indeed, amazing to work with. Early in my assisting days, I worked with a still life shooter who had one of them, and it was fantastic.

I am not a studio photographer but needed to produce some images for Photoshop tutorials. I managed to make a DIY version of Profoto's ProBox, using foam board and a white sheet of 5mm plexiglass. I then placed a Profoto A1X inside the box and triggered it wirelessly. The light way not totally even but was very close, and I think if I tweaked it a bit I would be able to get it even better. I think the total cost was about £30. I think this would be a good idea for someone on a budget. I also agree with you that plexiglass diffusers give a very nice quality of light.

With a softbox you get a hot spot unless your softbox has double diffusion panels separated by some distance - usually 5 to 10 inches. Also if they (the softboxes) are large enough, and can be used close enough to the subject, they can appear like natural north light. My experience? Before I retired a few years ago, I owned a studio for four decades and worked with lighting every day. :-Don

and also many photographers think that there is a secret old tool, modifier, lens, whatever that they should get and their photos will be something great nobody can do and they get it and the pictures look the same. First you need to develop a style and then you will know what tools you need and it might be even very chip or very expensive, but it works if you know what you want to achieve and not the opposite like you get the super tool and then your work will be great

I began shooting in working factories and cleanrooms almost 10 years and I invested in a Mola Mantti, a 43.5 beauty dish, to support his venture. The reason I use this dish is its not flammable, has shallow profile that allows the dish to move in tighter quarters, and allows me to photograph groups with out having to resort to hard lighting. I can mount continuous lighting onto this dish to avoid fire alarms system that are triggered by flash, and it can be cleaned without concern of contaminating an area. That said If I didn't venture into factories, I would not own this dish. Right tool for the right job. I think this video makes a good point we are allowed to slightly compromise a photo with little concern because of the editing power we have. One question, what strategy does any of us have that balances edit time versus right first time?

A bit random but i've been watching for a few weeks now and you reminded me of someone and couldn't quite think who, I mean your presenting style, etc, just worked it out, Chris Harris from Top Gear and Collecting Car on YT, thats not a bad thing, very easy listening, keep up the great work and content

“Nobody wants a saggy box.” 😂😂😂 Scott you crack me up. Anyone who is shopping for lighting modifiers should watch this video before asking that hated question on the forum, boards - “Which softbox should I buy?” If your lighting budget is $25,000 you ask questions. If your budget is $200, you should ask similar questions. Budgets are relative to the purchaser. Acquiring performance that you can afford is the real trick.

there are square leds that work the same, for product photography works the same. I use a scrim to get a nicer catch light. If I had the space I might get one of this, I like to try every kind of light :)

I see many times people not aware of the big picture wondering why pro equipment is so much pricier than regular consumer or prosumer things. Not just in photography but in various professssions. The reasons usually come down to ease of use, reliability, not just in mechanical terms but by producing the same results over and over, dependability. These things are shortening production time, no sane man wants to fix catchlights in post instead of workinng on another shot. Your words clearly underlining these things

No it doesnt have the new attachment. You either need to use a Hazyhead OR there is an adapter you can buy too. Which is suitably stupidly priced haha

Many times people use “Fix it in post” and don’t want to spend money on right gear and end up using up hours of times in photoshop that could be used on get more money/ new customers in the door. Sure you should not buy something just because the sake of buying stuff. But sometimes bit more work with the right gear or technique can save you lot of time in post, and in the long run, lot of money.

I understand you try to make some side income with youtube but I got the impression that its your main income now. And all I see is warmed up content. Where are the behind the scene videos from real shoots for real clients? I think you cant talk about how a pro is doing this or that without proving that you are a pro. And a pro photographer (not a pro youtuber) is making his living with client work. I like your style but I´m missing the professional application of it. Its like a shoe maker who is just talking about how to make expensive shoes for wealthy clients but never really showing how he actually makes a pair of shoes for a real client.
@TinHouseStudioUK
@TinHouseStudioUK Жыл бұрын
Sadly it is VERY rare that a client would agree to letting me make a video about a commercial job. The amount of NDAs we have to sign is insane. I would also need to hire in a film crew to do it because I am working when on set and don't have the brain power to multi task. If you want to see my pro work though you can google my name scott choucino to find my website or to my agents website which is agent at large. Unfortunately the tin house studio world and my commercial world rarely meet, mostly for legal reasons.
