The UAF mod feels like what happened if a Japanese studio was the one that created Starsector. Not just the cute anime girls, but also the design of their fighters and ships feels very common among japanese space scifi media. Honestly, this mod is making me want to get star sector. I was on the fence but I love the aesthetics.

iirc United Auroran Federation was just meant to be a temp name but stuck around after a while, there was also meant to be a comic which explored more of the story of Aurora but was dropped for the time being. I'd imagine there's an explanation for this somewhere in a Discord channel, twitch chat, or hidden away in a google doc, notepad or what not for the time being.

This is one of the most detailed mod reviews I've seen. Absolutely amazing. I'm running around 210 total mods myself, including loads of faction bootlegs, Discord releases that have been lost to time, Chinese mods, and pretty much almost every single ship and faction pack on the forums. Would definitely watch if you do something this similar and detailed on the other ship packs, faction mods out there. UAF + WingCom mod combo = glorious Not to mention you sound kind of like Sseth in some ways.

update on your review as i just started playing with this mod 4 days ago because of your review the super-heavy freighter is now down to 25K capacity , the ridiculous experimental craft is now limited to it's own ship I.E no you can't spam it after you discover it's blueprints and the contact have been refine so that the ice cream don't work like magic anymore :v great work man i'll be looking forward to you other review :v you are THE only one person that do proper mod review of starsector man , no other people has come close to your level of quality :v

I can see an amazing story unfold with starsector being the medium for such! I am a huge fan of space related manga/anime and as sandboxy as starsector is with all its mods, i always go for those that enhance that feeling. Mods like Diable Avionics, Arma Armatura, Tahlan, Appro Light and more of the likes of them produce a great experience. I would often imagine diary/entry-log like tales worth a couple ingame days if something interesting happened in game. With UAF i see a complex story potential akin to what the gundam series can invoke in their readers. Though this game is mostly text based and 2D, its perfect for laying the grounds for such development. Instead of just reading such a story, now we could even "play" those stories.

Actually there is a Journal/Log mod you can install so you can always revisit what happened in the past it gets even better with Starship legends, as your ship becomes more famous and so does your captains and crews, they start to make their own backstory. If you want aliens and space horror install Foundation of Borken mod, as you are slowly drifting to madness while being observed by Cthulhu Or Secrets of the Frontier where an AI starts royally screwing you over. There's also a nemesis mod which adds a player nemesis faction who will always oppose you, hunt you and your allies down, conquer them, etc.

I remember the price tag of the solveria class ship. It was so much that I was shocked. I tested it out by adding it via console. The moment the ship entered the zone, it started firing. The railguns decimated the paragon classes in just 10 seconds. A single ship destroyed over 4 capital ships (Hegemony) and the hull didn't even take a hit.

this made me add it to my game, my first experience with the semibrev or whatever was firing it off, as a fighter went right in front of my barrel, and I annihilated most of my fleet forcing a reload... edit: oh, also (in my heavily modded game) I got the cherry by accident, there were these giant superstructures from another mod that you can restore with 10k metal, 1k heavymachine, and some other stuff, THEN you can sacrifice ships and shipparts and relic components to it to get a random ship, I had recently purged an ordo fleet while having the skill to reclaim them, I send in like 2k ship parts and dozens of automated ships plus a bunch I had in my fleet I was thinking of getting rid of anyways I rolled the cherry, instantly decided most of my cargo ships would go bye bye, especially with build in cargo bonus, the thing is at 50k cargo, my only downside is despite having the skill, if doesnt recognize that I can have automated ships so its stuck at 35%CR which is a bit awkward

It's not hyperbole to say this video and mod has reinvigorated my interest in Starsector once again. Fantastic mod, and a fantastic thorough showcase of it. A lot of effort went into the art direction. It's a shame there are people out there who bash the mod just because they don't like anime. It's not even that bad, the ships and uniforms in the portraits look really good. They fit the faction. I can understand the criticism of the balancing, it's the biggest sticking point I can think of. It's definitely unbalanced, but is it so hard to just say "The anime artstyle isn't for me" instead of saying "ew, weeaboos"?

Thanks, appreciate the comment. There's a lot more work that needs to be done, as balancing is much lower priority compared to adding in the rest of the mod content. It'll happen eventually, but it takes a long time to get balance perfect. As for the art style, I agree. I think the art is really great, but I also understand it's a style that unfortunately not everyone enjoys. Cheers friend! Hope you have been enjoying the UAF.

Personally speaking I’m more interested in the cool ship and fighter jet art, and it’s awesome that CY’s art lets you see those fighters and ships from a perspective outside the game. I’ve been having a blast with the mod so far and despite balance issues I can still appreciate the mod for what it is and how much work and passion has gone into it. I’ve read on the forums that CY doesn’t want balancing to get in the way of or compromise their creative vision of the mod too much, and I can respect that. They’re trying something ambitious and different. I don’t blame them for placing a lower priority on balance and I think balancing once the mod is more content complete is a reasonable move. It’s unfortunate that some people take that the wrong way and assume they don’t care about balance at all.
