I think these stylized graphics are amazing! And I love that it's turn based. RTS can be fun, but my poor brain doesn't like doing that level of multi tasking when I'm just trying to relax. So a turn based option to Steel Division is welcome.

thanks for the review Vulcan. This is a great game allowing the player to tackle many scenarios, and then create your own map and scenario and try it out. Looking forward to the British Commonwealth forces and desert scenery being released soon.

Excellent Review! We all have our favorite parts, but I LOVE getting to design my own scenarios and playing an almost unlimited number of scenarios in the Workshop.

Its ok. I love that it resembles Squad leader but i didnt give this game much time before it went back into my steam folder. I guess the positive is I supported the developer by buying it.

Brilliant overview video. Thanks. Definitely the best tactical wargame of 2023, if not of all time. If only they had not used cartoonish graphics😢. I know this is subjective and that many adore the graphics. I hate them and would pay double the money for serious garaphics reflecting the otherwise quality of the game.

This is one I've looked at in the past and it's one i intend to pick up at some point. As others have stated, the game mechanics/rules are largely derived from Squad Leader. The attention given to the sound is very good and graphically it's a befitting style that certainly won't appeal to all. I think a big advantage of the graphics/engine is just how approachable it makes community contribution along with the ingame workshop support you mentioned. I can see myself grabbing this at 40% - 50% off but at the moment it's a little too much for what I'll probably get out of it, especially given it has no MP.

Why does the new North Africa DLC not have historically accurate uniforms for the Axis and Allies.? Tommys and Afrika Corp troops are in the wrong uniforms....

It would be great if Matrix Games could turn SpWaw into a 3d version with updated graphics but using all the accurate ballistics data and OOBs. Not to mention actual historical scenarios and campaigns.

I would agree but, without radios makes Artillery useless. Direct line of sight only and once you shoot everybody sees you and you die. So no. I hear they will fix it in the DLC coming.

Personally i like RTS game Beyond All Reason. It's a free remake of Total Annihilation (1997).

Its pretty much Advanced Squad Leader without having to roll dice, so the graphics are spot on. You're not playing this for the explosions.

I was very interested in this game when I first saw it. But I was also very disappointed to find out that, at that time, there was no indirect fire / artillery combat. There is also no offboard artillery or aircraft bombardment. From this video it sounds like Vulcan mentioned that the mortars can fire indirectly. But last time I looked into this game they still had to have direct LOS to fire. Does anyone know if that's changed now?

Mortars are indirect in a sense that they are not affected by walls or hedgerows when calculating accuracy, but can't fire over buildings as far as I know.

The game is based on a boardgame called Advanced Squad Leader, and the Second Front developers have indeed mentioned that offboard artillery will be added in a future update, along with a wealth of other content including ground support from planes, the addition of prisoners/potential for your units to massacre said prisoners leading to the enemy no longer surrendering units, etc. Take a look at the game's website if you want to see a list of upcoming content/updates. For example, the British, North Africa, and a plethora of new scenarios are going to be added soon.

Whilst this is indeed a sponsored look into the game, I do believe everything I said. Presentation needs work but everything else is very solid and I had a lot of fun playing it.
