A quality table saw insert is a pleasure to use! In this video, I make one that utilizes replaceable inserts, so as they get chewed and a bit worn...simply replace with cheap but effective MDF Zero Clearance Inserts. I've been using this for a while now...and man!...do I love it!
Files can be used for CNC or Shaper Origin. Or simply cut out the shape close with a bandsaw, jigsaw...refine the shape with a router and flush cut router bit…using your original insert as a template.
Files can be found at ShaperHub: hub.shapertool...
My website...here you'll find The Original Dock for both the Festool DF 500 & XL 700 and other products, including my Marquetry Class 101, eBooks, Vice Wedges, plan sales, Zero Clearance Inserts for several Felder and Hammer machines and much more! ramonvaldezfine...

As usual, great hack! I realized while watching this that I could take some of the zero-clearance inserts that I bought for my SawStop a couple of years ago and use the Shaper to cut the recess and mounting holes so I’m already starting with a fitted insert and I can stop buying new inserts every time I need a refresh. That just saved me a bunch! Thanks!

Hey Paul! Yes, exactly. A true zero clearance insert is a dream in use. The supported wood fibers are cut cleanly, and of course...added safety.

@@MrSeminole77 oh yeah...true. But see? I already forgot about the cost of the Shaper Origin...that's how awesome it is! 🤪 Plus...I do mention that one could easily cut the shape of the throat plate other ways...router, bandsaw, jig saw. Anyway, thanks...cheers👊

Really enjoy how much you use magnets, it’s shows how many applications they can be used.

Wondering if you could insert the magnets in the raw stock, laminate both sides and then cut everything out on the shaper. You would have to carefully register the sandwich to make sure the magnets land in the right place and you don't hit them with the router bit. Avoids the need for the modified pilot bit. Or laminate just the top, rout the outside and the recess with the shaper, install the magnets and laminate the bottom and trim it with a standard bit.

Yes...good points. And your way would work well. I didn't think of the shallow area that would need a short pilot...but as you well know, there's almost always a solution. Thanks for the feedback!

Love it! I'm definitely building one. Where did you get that scribe or what is the brand name? Best one I have seen.
@ramonartful
@ramonartful 11 ай бұрын
Thanks…you’ll love it! The scribe is an inexpensive little dude by General Tools. Super easy to find. When I used them a lot, I’d modify em a bit. I’d add a plastic sleeve to keep them from marring painted walls. Also, get a quality nut and bolt if you’re gonna use it a lot. 👍🏼

@@ramonartful Thanks! It is so great to have a KZbinr that responds to comments. Especially one as knowledgeable as you. In my opinion all the others don't shine a candle to you. You have videos that have techniques that an advanced woodworker (if I can consider myself that after 50 years, part of that professional building furniture on commission) can actually use.

Dang man...I really appreciate your positive feedback! It's a bit frustrating to have my channel grow so slowly despite having what I feel are quality and informative videos. I hope people can share the channel to help it grow...I do love sharing/showing what works for me. Anyway, thanks a ton!@@johnreed9024

Very cool. I need to do this upgrade. Are the magnets strong enough to let you cut through a fresh insert without holding the plate down?
@ramonartful
@ramonartful Жыл бұрын
You should! You’d love it! And the magnets are quite strong and could hold I’m sure since we’re only going through 1/4” but I just place the fence over it. 👍🏼 thanks

Well…I don’t know about that. This table saw insert fits into an old (inexpensive) Grizzly table saw. But…I do have a lot of time invested in my passion! Much thanks.
