Pull up to Lowes or Home depot and they'll cut out the piece for you to fit the enclosure. Then u can drill the holes for it. You can also add one of those little grips that are used for fish tank lids and glue it on for a handle.
@rebel44663 жыл бұрын
So many things you can do there. Thin acrylic can be scored with a box cutter and broken over the edge of a table or things like that. Aquarium silicone is great to "glue" it into a frame. Or a 2k epoxy. If you know someone with a 3D printer, you can even go totally ham on it. Cross ventilation is very useful though. You can get a set of diamond drills from ebay or your favorite shop from china for just a couple $ to drill glas easily. Of course they won't last you a lifetime at that price, but they're enough for getting a couple holes from time to time.

all you gotta do is pop the mesh out, cut the arcrylic to fit, and silicone that b in the now-empty frame. Alternatively, you can just cut the arcrylic to rest on the inside rim of the aquarium and glue a couple magnets to keep it in place.

I've found the perfect very clear but cheap option: Take away cake/cookie/confectionary boxes! Just make/modify the lid. Perfect for slings, they come in a wide variety of sizes and are super clear. With some cornice plastic they can actually be more than sturdy enough and look pretty darn good.

The tarantula cribs are great, but have a big weakness in my eyes. The ventilation. They have all holes on the top of the enclosure. So the moisture will be concentrated lower in the enclosure. That's most apparent in enclosures around the 5:05 mark. Less airflow at the level of the animal.

@GhostKid02013 жыл бұрын
I’m about to look into getting my first tarantula and have a few questions. Can I get a young one and just put it right into the big enclosure? Or do you have to do the going up enclosure sizes as it grows? Also how do you regulate the temperature to make sure it’s always at the right temperature for it. I usually keep my house at about 65 degrees.
@Mbaeac2 жыл бұрын
I had that same question, I see that it has been nearly a year, have you found out if you can?
@GhostKid02012 жыл бұрын
@@Mbaeac you probably can and it would be no problem. But I’ve got about 9 slings now and 4 other bigger tarantulas. And now through experience I would DEFINITELY start small if you’re getting a sling. Once it’s big enough that it’s easy to see and find it wouldn’t be a problem to put it in its forever enclosure. I’d say around 2-3 inches and it should be easy to see. Some of my slings are about 1/2 inch and if I put them in a exo terra 10x10x12 I would never find them again. I got them in little enclosures that are about 2x2x4 and they are easy to find and feed. They made little burrows and webbed up around them and I know exactly where they will be.
@mikejessmax Жыл бұрын
I think feeding is most important. Too hard for them to locate food in a big enclosure. My Salmon Pink Birdeater lived in his pill bottle quite happily until he was around 1.5". He used to grab 2 or 3 pinhead crickets at a time. Hadn't seen him for quite a while and when I started digging around this big thing came crawling out. Yep, it was time to go a bit bigger for an enclosure.

A nice thing to add for people who REALLY have a tight budget (or just don't want to spend money on spiderling enclosures) are "pee containers" 😆 the small 100ml containers in which you store urine for medical checkups. They cost around 10-20 cent each. They aren't the "best" in terms of visual value but are prolly the best value-for-dosh option
@kadoceleritus4 жыл бұрын
Richard, for a few others, check out the Exo Terra small breeder boxes for slings and juvies in the 1-3 inch range, and the Lugarti arboreal enclosure, which can hold a decent-sized arboreal with no issue. Also, there's the old stand-by of modified sterilite containers or Critter keepers (stock is fine usually, but they are easy to modify), which can suit some of the more finicky fossorials who require more depth to thrive, such as Cyriopagopus lividus. Herpcult is another manufacturer of high quality tarantula-appropriate enclosures that would be comparable to Tarantula Cribs. Lastly, there are the new Zilla micro habitats. Some of them can have gaps, so you need to check the fit-up and sometimes employ the use of hot glue or a gap filler, but they can work decently for some smaller Ts. Great video as always, and glad to see you covering this topic for keepers.

Oh hey I came across another tarantula youtuber who had a really cool method for making glass enclosures relatively inexpensively. (It does involve making an order with a glass shop, but they can do all the drilling as part of the order.) He offers sketch-up files of his designs (its important to have your measurements very precise for the glass order) and some instruction on how to assemble them. Would you be interested in a link? Its something I intend to do for my mature specimens. My favorites are inevitably a bunch Avicularia and their "groupies" (recently recategorized species) and I really want to show them off. I'm really going to go ham on the hardware too for the exterior of the enclosure, as well as the decorative accents. Old school victorian gothic nonsense. *clenches fist* And I can tweak the enclosures to fit my shelves nicely. Looks nice and makes it easier to cat proof. (I have already mastered the art of keeping dozens of houseplants in 'The Hedge' alongside feeder insect colonies and isopods without my cats wrecking anything. And I have Jasmine, a large black fluffy teen who just yeets herself at items of interest with no regard for anything. They're not going to spook my Ts or bump their enclosures.)

What about making them with plastic sheet from the hardware store glue guns/pure silicon guns, certain small screws maybe and some hinges. Some places will even cut the plastic in the shape and size you want.
@tarantulacollective2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely try, but silicone usually doesn't hold it for very long. The acrylic or plastic needs to be thick enough so it doesn't warp as that will cause it to separate where glued. You need to get a chemical bonding agent that essentially dissolved the plastic slightly and welds the sheets together. And if you price it all out, it can sometimes be as expensive to make your own as just buying one.
