I was still at school when the Beatles played my local dance hall in 1963 just after the release of their first single--Love Me Do. My schoolmate had a part time job there and he came into school after the weekend raving about this "great new group" who had played The Plaza. They returned about six months later to play a second time. By now they had released their first album and a couple of singles all of which went to the top of the charts, but they kept their promise to play our little dance hall again. By now I had left school so of course I had go. No advance tickets--it was pay at the door and lots of people were turned away. I had never seen anything like it. What struck me was how much louder Paul's bass was than on record and the whole band was very loud, but they were as tight as a duck's ****. We learned later they they had to escape the screaming girls via the flat roof of the dance hall. Great days.

This song holds great memories for me. I’m from UK 🇬🇧 and saw the Beatles twice in 1963 and it was a blast. The first time I saw them you could actually hear them singing but the second you couldn’t hear anything of the music as the screaming was so loud. I think I was deaf for a couple of days after but it was definitely worth it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on their music, like you I prefer the earlier songs and look forward to seeing more from them again soon. : )

Like you I am more a fan of the earlier years of the Beatles. I do like their later music as well, but I was always loved their early music. Even before you mentioned "This Boy", I was ready to suggest that song for you in the near future.
