I was born in Brussels (in 1946). Lived there, studied there, worked there. I am living now in southern France as retired. Sometimes, I miss Brussels. It is a city full of surprises at each corner if you let your curiosity flying freely. It is impossible to describe and to "market" this city in 10 minutes. The best way to visit it is to know a local who was born in Brussels, to take the time to stay there for a while and to let you drive along in different areas. Anyway, this video gave me nice souvenirs of my city. Thank you/Bedankt/Merci

I love your report about Brussels. I’m Norwegian and I love your city, however I just need to say that the comment about ‘the finesse of French cuisine ‘ is an illusion. I’ve lived in France for five years and I discovered that so called French Gastronomie Is an over statement simply because people are conditioned and don’t dare to ask questions.. i was still living in France when the country woke up to the big scandal ( 2015) in the restaurant business.. so many ‘restaurants gastronomiques ‘ and star Michelin were caught using frozen or industrial food and serving them as ‘ de la cuisine artisanale ‘. The whole thing proved my point.. same goes for their patisseries… I prefer eating in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Thailand, Oslo, NYC, Beirut, Marrakech,Naples, Sicily, Bologna, India, London or Brussels .

There aren't gangs walking around in the streets (well, my friends who have lived in bxl for their whole lives and me have never seen any 'gangs' in the streets). You just have to be careful for pickpockets and don't walk around as a girl at night if it is not the city-center. There can be perverts at night but in Bruxelles-central it is pretty safe.

Those places are places more to meet tourists and European bureaucrats, than actual Belgians... If you want to connect to the actual city, you'd rather go around "place Flagey", the university, the sunday-morning market "aux abattoires de Bruxelles", taste the beers at the "moeder lambik" instead ... Belgians takes a bit of time to meet: you need to become a regular of the same place. But you won't end up with such a made-up picture of the city (witch explained so many wrong decision at the EU).

Brussels is a terrible city to live in and a very average one to visit. People are incredibly uninteresting and woke, income tax is through the roof, the weather is disgusting, the activities are boring and unless you really get off on drinking beer and eating fries there is really nothing to do. Architecture is inconsistent with some buildings looking absolutely phenomenal but being placed right next to the ugliest most east-block looking pieces of shit. Criminality is also high, no woman in her right mind would feel safe walking anywhere in Brussels at night. Last but not least Belgian cuisine is absolutely terrible, you can fact check that on any website.

The part where he says Brussels offers "the best of french cuisine mixed with other stuff" just isn't true in my experience, especially when it comes to baking. Average belgian bakeries are truly awful compared to french ones. As an example, a belgian "flan" is the most foul creation i've ever tasted. Don't even get me started on their mille-feuilles. You can even notice it in Paul bakeries, which is a notoriously bad brand. Pauls in france STILL taste way better. And for the love of god, avoid the tourist honeypots with their low quality food and ridiculously overpriced menus. If it's marketed for you guys, it's bad. PS. You could however try finding some tartes al djote, a fairly unique recipe from Nivelles :)

I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
