Very nice I truly can appreciate your talent I think you have a way of explaining this craft in a remarkable way! It’s something I have a great deal of respect for I just can’t see it in a visual to produce it if that makes sense! I have my own shop myself and do furniture as a hobby but this is another level and thanks for sharing most kind regards sir!

Talent plus sharp knives and chisels and this is what you get...........a fabulous finished product. How do you keep your tools so sharp........whetstones, diamond plates, etc?

Thanks! I do use a sharpening system that has a few wheels to shape, hone, and polish my tools. I just got it a few months ago and I love it! For these small tools and knives I am constantly honing on a leather strop

Try Beckwith Forge knives. They work as well as a Helvie and half the price. Always uses gorgeous wood for the handles.

Another tip would be a diamond stone set, they're cheap and worth it for kitchen knives, scissors, anything else you want to sharpen, you can use them dry just as well and they're simple. Bit of brown paper or cardboard will polish/strop well. I'm surprised you don't bother with at least one regular chisel. Do you not carve enough geometric features to be worth it? Not even a 1/8 for creating borders or inlays? How do you make a flat surface without?

I have a set of larger chisels and gouges that I'll have to show in another video

Do you recommend to start whittling on small projects, such as two or 3 inch tall, wood spirits, or larger wood spirits that you make such as the ones that appear to be one or 2 feet tall?
@wilkinsonwoodcarving3 ай бұрын
I would recommend starting with something smaller that you can hold in your hand. (Don't forget to use a glove!) Once you're a little more comfortable with the tools, go big!

You have a new subscriber...could you tell me or provide a web link where to buy the wood carving gouges? I am referring to all the tools that you teach in the videos. Greetings from Romania

Hi and thanks for the sub! I don't have a specific link but the chisels and one knife are Flexcut. The first knife was Beavercraft. And the other two knives (green and orange ) are Helvie. Hope that helps!

I'm just here to stare at people carving some wood, not do it myself. 😜
