The Best Trails Game for Beginners - Trails Through Daybreak First Impressions

Trails is a continuous story. Each arc, however, tells it's own story that's related to the main plot of the series, so you can follow the plot of an arc without playing other arcs. What you lose doing this is all the payoffs of the referenced events and returning characters this series has. Besides that, the only problem I can see with starting with Daybreak is that going back to the old titles may feel a bit odd since the mechanics are similar, but not as refined as they are on this game. I really recommend trying them out though. And if you like Trails, you should also take a look to other Falcom games, like the Ys series or Tokyo Xanadu.

The country is named Calvard, the city is named Edith. My favorite running gag in the game is that Van never hires anyone who joins his company, the other characters hire the new character and Van's protest is ignored.

I'm starting with this game as well. I don't have time to go play all the trails games but I've heard it's ok to start here since it's a brand new story arc. It looks pretty solid so far.

I hope this game makes you want to play the past titles irrespective of their graphical drawbacks. Kuro 1 doesn’t even reach my top 5 in terms of story imo

The best trails game for the beginners is Sky trilogy. After 40 hours in I can say for sure that there are many returning characters and many past events are mentioned. It won't be fun without knowledge from the previous games.

I don't think Daybreak is the best game if you want to understand the lore and everything but as someone who wants to just get into the series I think this game does well at building intrigue.

You're making yourself a disservice if you ignore the HOST of established history this game is starting from. It's like starting to watch a series at Season 4. A bunch of concepts and story elements will be presented assuming you already know about them, most of those being excellent plot twists and reveals, and they will be meaningless to you. This is a very shitty take tbh. You'll enjoy like 20% of what's the BEST STORY IN ALL JRPG LIBRARY because you decided to jump a bunch of chapters forward.

Trails “veteran” here. This game is a good point to start, the sequel however will make you extremely lost. Kuro 1 might’ve been the best starting point if it weren’t for Renne. But honestly it’s better for people to start this game rather than than not try Trails at all.
