!986: mein damals bester Freund und ich spielen Emerald Mine im Zweispielermodus auf Teufel komm' raus. Unglaublich schöne Erinnerungen. Eines der besten Spiele auf dem Commodore Amiga. 1988 konnte ich mir dann, Dank eines Ferienjobs in der Fabrik, einen eigenen Amiga 500 leisten. Emerald Mine von Kingsoft war dann das erste Spiel, welches ich mir gekauft habe. Nebenbei bermerkt war Emerald Mine ein Low Budget-Spiel!

Geht mir genauso. Wir haben das Spiel rauf und runter gespielt. Habe sogar kurz mal für Kingsoft in Aachen gearbeitet. War ein krasser Laden und die meisten Spiele waren gewollt Kopien bekannter Spiele aus den USA.

Today I thought about when my son (currently being 5 years old) will be able to play this game effectively... I think it will still take some time. It sure requires quite some ahead-thinking because you just can't do everything just by reacting. You die so quickly in this game it can only be prevented by thinking two tiles in advance at least all the time which needs practice, persistence and also some skill with the controller. As far as I remember my youth we played without killing each other but as seen here that doesn't mean we didn't die all the time anyway.

An old colleague, a CS Msc said once: "I think I will program a Boulder Dash clone on my Acorn in assembler". And I was like: "Why assembler?" He explained me that on the Acorn RISC OS everything that was worth it, was done in assembler. I said: "That'll costs you weeks or months". -"Maybe, but it will be fun" Over the long weekend he was like: "Done! Come to Amsterdam to my house for dinner and I'll show you!" And I expected to see a text based implementation, but he had even done the graphics as well! In 4 or 5 days! Bizarre! And he just liked (back then) only two programming languages: Mumps (M) and Assembler on the Arm RISC processor :D A few years back I ran into him at a government position, and he had become a Java dev. What a waste of talent :D

Not bad for a (work)weeks work. I think in PICO-8 you could do it in a day. ... I switched to Java when it was still called OAK. Good old times. I loved Java until they stuffed it with all kinds of language extensions. I recently made a game in Java with my son. It's called Monkey Run. I might do a video about it. I wrote a complete java game engine for that in a day.

@@RetroWK I also did a lot in Java but I have the same problem as you (as I have with all new tech), it’s these enormous frameworks. And frameworks are a jail you get caught in, under the guise of “easy” and “fast” development.

Volker Wertich also programed "The Settlers" original for the Amiga, best man. To bad The Settlers 2022 is without him.

If you don'tmind my asking, what is the nature of the Amiga you are using? Is this an Amiga 500 in a different case or a Raspberry Pi or perhaps an FPGA of some sort? I have seen in other videos you have a Checkmate case and some kind of tower Amiga although I don't know what is in it either). I can't help being curious. Thank you.

I have a normal A500, a Checkmate 1500 (with an A500 and a Wicher Card), a Raspberry (in my Suitcase Amiga), a Tower Amiga (A500 with a PiStorm) and the one in this video which is a MiSter FPGA in a 25€ Desktop case. With the MiSter I have HDMI out, so that is good for capturing gameplay.

Hi, ich hänge im two player Modus im Level 12 fest... hat jmd. eine Lösung? Mir fehlen am Ende 2 Diamanten und ich spreche das Dynamit weg, was ich eigentlich für den Ausgang bräuchte.... Kann mir jmd. helfen??
