I show you how I made the best modification for the E Gear Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. The E-gear paddle shifters with this car are too small and don't make for the best driving experience. I upgrade the E gear automated manual transmission Lamborghini Gallardo with Forged Carbon Fiber Composite shift paddles with CNC machined precision interfaces.
Watch along and see how these amazing shift paddles look, feel, and shift this amazing single clutch transmission.

From a design stand point, the forged carbon doesn't look good with the woven CF on the gauge cluster surround. Maybe up close and personal it's better. I'd suggest making some in anodized aluminum at a lower price point. I have not bought a set of CF paddles for my 360 because of the excessive price.

Awesome, you got them done - seems like a huge upgrade! I agree with some of the comments that the forged texture clashes a bit with the woven CF. As a "fix", maybe they could be finished in white, to match the dial faces? That should also make them easier to see in the dark. Still, tremendous work! Will be a seller for sure.

Well, I see what you did, the part that fits into the switch and the pivot point instead of making them as a one pice composite you milled an alu part and bonded the cf to it. Interesting approach to get around the misalignment issue you were having. I suspect the cf part end with a dowel that fits into the alu part and get bonded there?
@TheBullRider
@TheBullRider 2 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly Andreas! The carbon fiber part was machined with a tightly toleranced hollow hole with room for a bond line to reduce the possibility for galvanic corrosion. The Aluminum part is machined with a dowel interface. The final rev will be anodized to further reduce galvanic corrosion. I was struggling with void content on the machined carbon part and it wasn't a long-term solution. I can control the tolerance on the Aluminum part much better now and know 100% it will work every time!

My Gallardo's PO installed the now extinct KLA paddles. I like them a lot but for some reason they don't full engage if I pull from the top part. Don't know why; maybe an install issue or maybe the paddle flexes /twists a bit.
@TheBullRider
@TheBullRider 2 жыл бұрын
KLA is a good paddle but the one big flaw is it is a cast aluminum part. That mechanism that interfaces with the steering column is very tightly toleranced and casting aluminum sometimes doesnt suit itself well to tight tolerances!

i know you really like your egear system, but if you thought it was a good idea, how much work would it be to convert to a gated 6spd manual? parts are almost completely unavailable right now, would would involve a lot of custom fab but you seem pretty clued up about that stuff. also the ecu would need to be reprogrammed, just wondering if you every gave it any thought?
@alpintourer
@alpintourer 2 жыл бұрын
There is a group doing this for Ferrari 360/430 and 599. You are looking at $40K installed. They had a kit for DIY's but decided to keep it in house for, I believe, liability issues. It's kind of a wash value wise.
@TheBullRider
@TheBullRider 2 жыл бұрын
Steven, I have given it a lot of thought and would use all OEM parts for the swap. You mention the availability of the parts and I believe you, they are probably impossible to find! It honestly isn't that much work because the transmission is the same. Honestly, it's just the shifter mechanism, the third pedal, and a reprogramming and some miscellaneous parts. (Reprogramming might not be so much fun!) Check out this video from peter Bjork, he goes over some problems he had with changing out to gated with his Superleggera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYqQmXmOetugeZo For me at least, I was HOOKED to the E gear from the Aventador brutal 8500 RPM INSANE WOT shifts and wouldn't want this Superleggera any other way. I don't know about you but I love the hydraulic actuation noises with the e-gear system.
@randomchannel1712
@randomchannel1712 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheBullRider also I've seen that the e gear systems can be reprogrammed if so maybe you can speed it up for wot driving. And lower the stall point for prolonged clutch life in traffic conditions. Since you have the torque you could go with a complete engament at 1300rpm at light loads. Although that would possibly make the car a bit more twitchy at low speed maneuvers I think the much reduced heat due to preety much half the revolutions would greatly improve clutch life.

@@TheBullRider Ive been pretty lucky to have a go in a few dream cars. personally dont own one, but have friends with means. a friend has a 08 Superleggera like your one but in a grey colour here in the UK. its a gated 6pd. Hes put it on a heavy diet, hes got lighter carbon seats, lighter exhaust, with long tube equal length headers from a company called Brilliant. Upgraded to carbon ceramics, ligher battery, ac delete too. oh and hes converted it to 2 wheel drive, and had a racer friend set up his upgraded KW V3's. Hes added some toe in I think too. It now weighs 1285kg (2855lbs) on a weighbridge with all fluids and 1/4 tank of fuel. Hes gone so far as to remove the windscreen washer fluid resovoir! Engine is completely stock. When I tell you this thing is an abosolute gem to drive. Easily the best automotive experience Ive ever had..... by some margin. if had the money i would do everything i can to get the same thing.

Eventually, you'll grow up and become a Ferrari owner. 😂. In all seriousness, the forged carbon is just too busy, not sexy or stylish. It's just trendy but will look very outdated when the trend ends. It's the equivalent of Disco paddles or Pet Rock paddles. You'll never see it in a Ferrari.
@TheBullRider
@TheBullRider 2 жыл бұрын
I get your perspective Christschool. And yes a 430 in black with tan interior is tempting me these days (It would have to be an F1 gearbox) As a composites engineer, the technology just lent itself nicely to small intricate parts such as this! I agree, forged carbon hoods and fenders, etc are a bit odd as more traditional woven carbon fiber cloth is far superior for applications like that. Woven looks DAMN COOL no doubt about that and it is timeless in style. Once I figure out how to get these paddles to be woven, I will show them off, but what's underneath the cloth will most likely still have to be a forged/ compression molded composite.
