2 years from now: "ripper the ripsaw does its first 9 second pass"
@Avetho2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there is a limit with tracked vehicles. Assuming the Ripsaw with its 1500hp is at its top speed of 60mph when it crosses the starting beams, it will take it 14.7 seconds to do the 1/4 mile. So to make it go faster, you'd need to replace the tracks with a harder rubber to stay together at speed at the detriment of grip, then lengthen the gearing at the cost of acceleration, then increase the power by a lot to get back some acceleration, make the steering components far, far stronger both in friction material and pressure which would make it very twitchy and hard to control, and then the Ripsaw could exceed highway speeds easily much like drag racing snowmobiles.

Snow machines are so weird to ride, the first time I got on one I figured it would be easy since I ride motorcycles a lot and have a good amount of experience on jet skis and wave riders but it's absolutely not the same thing. It's got kind of a steep learning curve at first especially in powder because you have to figure out the dynamics but you also usually don't have the option to slow down or stop, you have to full commit to everything. It's weird that I'm perfectly comfortable on a motorcycle doing 150+ but like 30 on a snow machine up a hill has me losing my cool and tunneling which leads you to mistakes. Then you spend a half hour with a collapsible shovel trying to dig the thing out... Super fun though, highly recommend it.

When I went to the World Rally Championship in Sweden there was a Norwegian kid with a side by side on tracks…. And a home made sled with 4 seats bolted to it. He promised to take us to one of the fastest parts of the stage…. We couldn’t say yes fast enough. The Ripsaw was among the Howe Bros. first huge successes. There has been some DoD interest, so who knows howe far they may go? Ripsaw is the first and only man carrying tracked vehicle to go faster than 100 mph. Due mostly to innovative track design and the talent and persistence of twin boys/engineers in the deep wood of Maine! IF they had only priced it at two or three million a piece, rather than the six figure "too chap for us" price the DoD rejected it at! Yes, that track design doesn't do as well in snow- it was designed when we were in the middle of loosing HMVVs ans fuel tank trucks in Iraq, designed for sand and rock. Heavy and bro need to give them a call- I think they later did something for better snow traction- there certainly is a YT piece showing one tearing up a snowy hill. Also, Florida Man, you call and get a demo on their amphibious version- you won't want to be without that bad boy in Bradenton! FR
