How funny. I just found you guys today (via Kara and Nate) and you were in my home city just a few days ago. Nothing like seeing your city through someone else's eyes. Now I have new places I need to try. HAHA. We have so many restaurants in The City, there is never any way to keep up. Grand View Park is very special to my family (long story), but thanks for the views. Hope you were able to see the mosaic steps there on the 16th Avenue side. Great video!

Loved all the views of SF . 😎 Fort Bragg is real cute. My family and I went up through there last year. Try Eggshead for breakfast/lunch. Not too pricey and it’s all Wizard of Oz themed. There’s a ice cream place called Cowlicks which is good as well. Glass beach is fun to walk around, but not as much glass around as I thought there would be. But whole area is so beautiful. Can’t wait to see the video.

When you come back to the UK, in particular Scotland, you will have to do a bothy trip. In case you do not know what a bothy is here is its description from www.mountainbothies.org.uk "A bothy was originally farm accommodation for itinerant workers; now a bothy is an open shelter usually in a remote location where travellers might have need of four walls and a roof. Most bothies are old cottages and at least several hours walk from the public road." It is an amazing experience and you never know who you will meet, if anyone, and is totally different from sleeping in a tent though the packing for a night at a bothy is fairly similar as camping as you need to take everything you would for camping. Also the hike out to a bothy can afford some amazing views and scenery.

I find it interesting how non-Britons use the terms 'Victorian' and 'Edwardian' to describe their own architecture. I'd have thought only British people would describe the architecture that way. Just shows how powerful and influential the Victorians and Edwardians were that all across the world.
@inTHEwrongGENERATION
@inTHEwrongGENERATION 6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have been as surprised if Australians, Canadians or New Zealanders described their architecture that way as they have a long shared history with Britain and still have our Queen as their head of state. But for Americans to call their architecture after British monarchs is quite interesting. Obviously, during the Victorian/Edwardian period, Britain was the undisputed world superpower but I wouldn't have thought it was powerful enough to influence the naming of a large chunk of American history. I will admit myself I feel a sense of pride out of that fact.
@inTHEwrongGENERATION
@inTHEwrongGENERATION 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think there was any challenge to Britain's status as the world's untouchable superpower until the beginning of World War 1 when Britain began borrowing a lot of money off America to pay for the war effort. America was the only power that came out of World War 1 better than it came in. Well, America's bill of rights was directly influenced by the English (later British) bill of rights of 1689. The founding fathers were clever men who wanted to replicate a lot of Britain's domestic political structure and policy in America.
@phronsiekeys
@phronsiekeys 6 жыл бұрын
The U.S. uses Federal and Colonial to describe early American arch by period. You also see antebellum for pre-civil war. There are probably local terms for the other periods but don't discount the dominance of the Empire!
@inTHEwrongGENERATION
@inTHEwrongGENERATION 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, I understand.I think it is easier and more natural to name historical periods after monarchs rather than political leaders which is probably another reason why 'Victorian' is such a widely used word for the era of the mid-1800's to the very early 1900's. In Britain, most of our history is named after monarchs and I would imagine this period now will be considered the second Elizabethan era when our Queen has died.
