I use an Audio-Technica AT2035 with two pop filters. I really like the results and no complaints from clients. It's really a fair price for something so good, in my opinion.

Thank you so much Peter for helping people find wallet friendly options to lower the barriers of access to the tools of voice over artists! All your recommendations are spot on! I love my Stellar X2 and I've found another couple mics that people might find are surprisingly good value. These are The Lauten LA220 V2 or V1, The surprisingly cheap Neat King Bee 2, the Tascam TM280 is also a super cheap gem, and lastly Lewitt 440 Pure, although I think it takes out too much bass a lot of folks people seem to love how detailed and smooth it is.

Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated! Weirdly I tried a Tascam TM280 in a friend's studio recently and was very impressed. For more information and advice, check out the training courses at www.VoiceoverMasterclass.com Best wishes, Peter Baker

What sort of good dynamic mics would you recommend for VO artists who yet don't have a dedicated soundproof booth?

I really enjoy your videos and the way you present them! I bought the TZ Stellar X2 for a podcast I've been working on, and I have been really impressed in my rehearsal recordings. Some people say that it has too much high end, but even with Sony MDR 1A, I don't hear that at all...and the low end is good and full without being too boomy. Is it a Neumann? No...but the low noise floor and sound quality are impressive for a less expensive mic. And I've found the build quality to be very good. I'm working on my sound booth, too! I've designed a PVC frame where I can use multiple layers of blankets and I think it will work well on a budget. Certainly for a podcast. But, who knows? It could turn into something more! Thanks for your videos!

Thanks, and good luck with the booth! The Stellar should be good...a friend bought one and it just didn't work at all but it may be a manufacturing fault. For more information and advice, check out the training courses at www.VoiceoverMasterclass.com Best wishes, Peter Baker

I use an AKG C214 into an Audient id14 for my audiobook work. I do my recording in Reaper. All reasonably priced, and they do everything I need.

If the best voice over mics are condenser mics, then why are ALL podcast and broadcast mics dynamic?

Hello Peter. Love your videos, and have gained a lot of knowledge from them. I use the Rode NT1A for most of my recording, and also have a shotgun Synco 2 microphone. The Synco 2 microphone has been reviewed, and it's been stated it compares favorably to the Sennheiser MKH 416. Wondering if you have any thoughts on these 2 microphones?
@Voiceovermasterclass Жыл бұрын
Not tried the Synco 2, I hope to soon; the shotgun mikes work well to cut out noise away from the mouth, but in a small voice booth, they are hard to position correctly ! The Rode continues to be a great affordable go-to workhorse!

Good evening Sir, I want to Record my poetry in professional quality. please Suggest me Good microphone and Audio Interface...But my room is not sound proof ...My Budget is $300 I'm Confused....which mic i use Shure Sm58 or Conference mic
@Voiceovermasterclass Жыл бұрын
You need a "shotgun" microphone if you really can't fix a noisy area, as long as it isn't really bad. This type of microphone is VERY directional so only picks up the main sound from the front. Find a used Sennheiser mike on eBay maybe? For more information and advice, check out the training courses at www.VoiceoverMasterclass.com Best wishes, Peter Baker

I hate the AT2020 (for my voice). Extremely overrated mic. Everyone, do yourself a favor, find a local shop that rents out mics (they're out there) for the day/week/month, rent a few of them, record (trial and error) to see which one suits your voice the best. You can have two people recording under the same conditions, and the mic works with one person and not the other. I have an AT2020, a Rode NT1 5th Gen, an SM58 and the Focusrite bundle mic (that everyone seemingly dislikes), and found out - to my surprise - that the one that came in the Focusrite bundle suits my voice the best. It's viewed as the cheapest one of the group, yet, it doesn't feel like it's constantly working against me.

Are you a fan of the rode nt1 5th gen? I had an old 4th gen and replaced it with a 5th gen recently
