Survival is awesome. Yeah it's a bit grindy but the feeling of having built your base, ship and leaving the planet to explore the rest of the space is awesome. Imagine Minecraft with physics engine, the fun of building various kinds of vehicles, cars, space ships, but even trying to create a massive automated drill to mine your resources faster (something you just won't do in creative), it's very rewarding in the end. (I'm a long term fan with over 400 hours in survival :)

Bought this game on sale 6 months ago thinking that I'm gonna refund it.After 200 hours I can clearly say that it's one of the best sandbox game.I can spent more than 20 hours just designing one ship😄Also love the planets and all their unique weather effects.The modding is super easy and adds a lot of content to the game. I love building ships and bases or even cities on the planets.I can totally see that some people have nothing to do in this game but as a freak with wild imagination I enjoy it a lot.

I left Elite Dangerous prior to Odyssey's release for this game. Watched some KZbin Let's Plays and streams of live action role players using this game (W4stedSpace Splitsie Ball&ChainGaming to name a few) and decided to grab it on sale. I've flown versions of ships from every franchise I can think of, fought aliens on several worlds and visited different systems (thank you modders). In all my years I can honestly say Clang is the true enemy. Some ancient evil god that must be appease via sacrifice or he'll come for your build.

Damn, I wasted 60 hours trying to learn Elite Dangerous and I'm still stuck at doing cargo mission and some smuggling for NPCs in odissey :(. In 100-150 hours in space engineers with a friend I'm already building a space station on an asteroid with some KLANG-PRONE ship. Elite is way more brutal in its learning curve

Mod the shit out of it... that's 1 of the funniest things about it. Makes the game playable even in survival mode. I'm STILL working on my Somebody Ate My Planet ship... it's design is to CONSUME an entire planet and process it into ingots.. in 1 pass.... I'm starting with moons though..... and I'm playing it in survival mode. I'd love to see Yamiks defend against the spiders on the Alien planet.. or the wolves on the Earth planet... that would be neat! and I wonder how many current SE players are downloading Yamiks' ship right now....

1500+ hours in, no end in sight. It helps if you keep in mind that clicking on start does not make you an engineer, you will have to learn a lot of things the hard way. Then, after hitting your thumb for the 50th time with your hammer you learn how a hammer works and you start hitting the nail. There is also no shame in spending time in engineering school, check out tutorials, Splitsie has a good series of them. Lastly, mods and scenarios. Vanila gets boring somewhat fast but scenarios can keep things interesting forever.

Space engineers is a legendary game, only downside is the DLC atualy adds some good features, but I can overlook as there not a Pay 2 Play or micro tranactions so its fine, and they do add stuff during the dlc update. Also Yamiks, you should check out servers, I play on a fantastic multi-server server where we can jump into combat sector, pvp sector or just chill and mine, far better than elite

Space Engineers is like the best unfinished game ever. Build the most incredible spaceship, walk around inside and admire it's glory as you hurtle through space between planets, then thats about it. Start over and build something else. It's baffling they never fully fleshed this game out as it has the potential to be king of all space games. Although they seem to be working on SE2, finger crossed that will be an actual game and not a desolate sandbox.

Wait until you discover "From the Depths", you have to actually "make" the engines and weapons. Example: To build a CRAM cannon (one of the easiest weapons to learn) you have to set pellets that will dictate what damage type it will do, then to have to have packers that will load the pellets, the more connections between the packers and pellets the faster it will load. Then you have compactors which will let it load more (increasing loading time but doing more damage). Then finally you have to have connectors that have it connect to the firing piece, oh and don't forget to add barrels to the firing piece.

I've played Emyprion as well and think if the 2 games were merged you'd have the best voxel game out there - giving minecraft a real contender for more adult gaming. The engineering side of Space engineers with teh creativity, world creation flora fauna etc of Empyrion. When I realsied the "water" on planets in Space engineers is just "blue ground" I laughed so hard, it's pathetic.

For exemple I played nearly 9 years before I even knew about the build planner which is a monumental time and braincell saver, until I stumbled on a YT video... It needs to be modded to be really enjoyable for me though. I think it's a game that have greatly expanded on it's original scope and will be janky as fuck forever until they make SE2 (Keen is currently developing the new version if their engine)

It's a great game if you are the kind of person that likes to build in creative mode to your heart's content then screenshot the hell out of it or you like downloading other people's creations from every sci fi show, book or game ever created. Survival mode is... there if you like getting your skull caved in by random enemies after working your butt off gathering materials and struggling with the UI. I bought it on early access and only play it occasionally to build and break stuff. As long as you are aware of its janky nature and dry UI and environment you can set expectations. Its not minecraft, its much more complex while not having the personality.

*STATIONEERS* is a similar concept, but as a one-man or MP planet/moon colony builder, starting with very little ressources and - depending on the scenario - quite taxing starting conditions and hash environments. Currently Includes Moon, Mars, Vulcan (in a black hole's vicinity), Venus, Mimas (Saturn moon) and Europe (Jupiter Moon) - more possible by modding. I have both Stationeers and Space Engineers, but I like Stationeers more. There is just more to do than just basic survival. Dedicated server for MP available, too. Gane is still in EA.

Just got into space engineers and I gotta say pc m&k controls are ass to busy and all over the place. Using a controller is good it’s awesome better than m&k. I personally like survivor starting from basically nothing and building up to your base first ship then mining ship then big ship to carry them then bigger base that you build inside a volcano but then decide to slap rockets on the bottom of it to lift off. I will say mods carry a little bit. I installed one of my personal favorites called deadly sun which upon landing and immediately taking damage forced me to make my very own bat cave. I will not deny this games clunkiness or frustrating bugs. Legit on PC it’s a coin toss whether or not I can play the next day I get on. Cause I had an issue that was semi recurring where I would lose the ability to weld grind shoot or drill you know my LT RT functions. But the thing is those buttons still worked for navigating menus selecting and placing blocks I just couldn’t freaking weld. Frustrating, but fun game tho lol!

1. Actually it has tutorials in Scenarios (and player-made tutorials in workshop scenarios). 2. Did you play Empyrion Galactic Survival? It might be even better as a voxel "game". It has worse physics than Space Engineers, but it has a live interesting world on planets and in space. Factions, animals, vegetation, all interactable. And lots of stuff to do. It's also much better in decorations and stuffing ships with equipment, much easier to make copies of Star Citizen ships

Yeah even the vanilla game in Empyrion has more things to do and shoot. The building mechanics might not be as deep, and you don't want the ship to be moving when you want to move on foot, but it definitely has the awareness of it needing to be a game.

@@warzIbanez it's quite controversial about "not so deep". On the one side, empyrion doesn't have usual conveyor system, on the other side it has temperature and radiation systems, and fragile players at respawn, that dont have spacesuit and need oxygen, good temperature and no radiation, otherwise they will die slowly without treatment. Also the need to put frigdes, food processors, toilet/shower, medical devices, armor lockers, adds to deepness in my opinion

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, though I do know its container and storage system is quite nice where you can build containers to store your stuff; modular containers are even better that can act as silos for mass quantities of all those resources, and wi-fi blocks that can allow players to access those containers from afar. Then yeah, Empyrion even has different scenarios in which players can start out with an easy way to get acquainted with the game or with one of the other starts that can cause issues in the near and/or distant future should you not be able to find one or more resources. I've also liked the food system. Food will spoil, but that's okay, you do need some to spoil to eventually plant food in garden plots. Starting out in the game, one of the first things I do is get a hover vessel built that can act as a temporary shelter as well as a small cargo hauler and also has a fridge that will keep food from spoiling; when the HV isn't being driven, the repulsors can be turned off to save a little fuel but keep the fridge running. The medical system is quite deep as well, though once you build yourself a Med Bay in your base or capitol vessel, you can basically spam click those devices to treat yourself fully. Still, going into Zirax or particularly Legacy bases without an arsenal of medical equipment is not advised. The armor system has gotten pretty good lately, probably thanks to the dev team looking at those custom scenarios like Reforged Eden. I think my last vanilla playthough I never found a pair of Epic Armor, but I found plenty of Medium and Heavy sets to use or sell, then there are also the Epic armor mods that are quite nice to tweak the armor for the combat or non-combat situations.

That's a shame because I think you would find the fps mechanics better than edo (not that it is a great comparison,) or NMS. There are some pretty cool bases to blow up on foot, in hover tanks, Fighter ships, or Capitol vessels. Oh yeah, and there are Capitol vessel versus Capitol vessel fights, particularly against the zirax. The dogfights are kinda minimal with only drones that are pretty easy to kill once you get to a certain point (namely once you get a shield generator for your Fighter. )

OH, I have played Space Engineers for 6 years. I have to agree on the tutorial. It is REALLY BAD! What I liked about the game was just the ship building part. That was what kept me playing it. It was in development when I started. So, I hung in there for the rest of the time. I will have to say. It has come a long way from what we had. Trust me the days of constant Klang was miserable and mind numbing frustrating to say the least. Your review would have been A LOT different if you had tried it then. Klang is just a Space Engineers term for when the game mechanics decided you did something wrong and what you were building just EXPLODES KILLING YOU AND DESTROYING HOURS OF WORK!!!! Yep, those were the early days....what memories. 🤣 Just look up videos of Klang or Lord Klang gone wrong. You can find some. Some of them are quiet funny. I do say the moding community made this game better and the mods that make the color hud are great. There are like several to chose from. There is a mod to make color icons. Yes, the Devs are lazy. We complain to them about that all the time. They just seem to take it with the territory and go on with their day. I still love the game building and making things. It is one of my favorite ones in my Steam library. I have 1800+ hours in game. So, I guess you could say. I am a veteran an know my way around the game. 😉👍😁

Looks interesting, but seems to lack actual goals or reasons to apply all this cool creativity. I imagine it would be like Minecraft for me, where I get super into it for a couple days, but after building a few things, I would get bored, cause at that point, I've already "conquered" the game. Maybe it would be more interesting in multiplayer, but playing something like this with vets sounds intimidating. So far, No Man's Sky is my go-to Sci Fi game. Haven't quite found anything better. I was into Elite Dangerous for a while, but single player space trucking got boring fast, and I've been eyeing Star Citizen, but that's a whole mess that I don't think I want to bother poking. Why is the whole Space Genre so cursed to fail, lol?

i bought this on sale a long time ago and just as a was getting into it ,they updated it to 16gb ram needed and refused to run on my 8gb , i found a simpler but similar game called starmade and got into that , but the graphics no so good , i then went planet nomads but development stopped and we never got the space exploration promised , i got my 16gb ram , but this time my cpu was too low for space engineers !, so this time i got into empyrion - galactic survival it has construction, space , plaints a galaxy even quests and bugs , so i upgraded tried space engineers again but i jest wanted stuff from other games and gave up on it mostly as my pc was too slow , i got no mans sky , then odyssey came but then pc too slow . it was this point i gave up on elite dangerous even if i was a founder . right now i am playing empyrion - galactic survival waiting for star field and a decent cheap gpu
