Japanese auction and marketplace sites are often ignored by overseas buyers but there's a load of cool stuff that's worth taking a look at. It's also way easier than you might imagine. We'll take a look through what's available and some of the items I've picked up recently.

That is so true! They sell runway items ( Rick Owens specifically) like it wasnt a biggie compared to Grailed ( 🙃) I think it’s how the japanese are quick to move on from one product to another. I will contintue buying from Japan because I save a lot!

You missed the biggest plus to buying vintage/secondhand from Japan: Condition. If you're buying a secondhand bag in the US it's like, "Oh, the bottom is scratched to hell, it's missing the zipper pull, and there's peanut butter in the pockets. B-" In Japan, "The zipper pull has a scratch, and there's an ink stain in an interior pocket, C" They're super sticklers for condition, so you can get really great deals if a tiny scratch or crease doesn't bother you. Their vintage watch market is nuts too.

Unfortunately, I have the opposite experience. I bought an item that was advertised as being in “excellent condition,” but when it arrived, it had a large tear and other serious damage that made it unusable. Despite choosing the highest protection plan with inspection and insurance, Buyee refused a return or refund, claiming that the damage wasn’t visible in the seller’s photos. The seller had only shown photos from angles that hid the flaws and described the item as being in “excellent, like-new condition.” Buyee’s response was that, since the defects weren’t visible in the seller’s photos (obviously because the seller intentionally avoided showing them to deceive), they couldn’t verify the issues. This means they assumed the defects didn’t exist, and even though I reported them and provided photos within an hour of receiving the item, it made no difference. It turns out there’s literally no buyer protection at all - sellers can easily mislead you with selective photos and descriptions, send an item in terrible condition, and Buyee will refuse to help. In other words, there’s absolutely no buyer protection.

Great vid, Ive been having a hard time shopping for Japanese brands in the west. Not enough variety or nowhere near my size. Especially when looking for shoes. Don’t know whether anyone already brought that up, since the vid is 1yr old, but, and I’m sorry, this Ring Coat is a Chinese knockoff. Made the same mistake with the same exact jacket, then found tons on them on Ali with same pictures and description. Kapital did these coats in ripstop, but the detailing were completely diffident.

Thanks! Depends entirely on the brand - it's always best to go by the measurements rather than the size. As a general rule though Chinese/Japanese stuff comes up significantly smaller than anything made for a US or European market
