Our subdivision, in the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, was built on part of what used to be a VERY large family farm. When our homes were built, some mice found their way into our neighborhood at a slow rate and we were able to deal with them with mouse traps. Several years ago, a lot more houses were built and we found that a lot of rats moved into our part of the neighborhood. The neighbors in our area put up a pretty united front and kept the rats at bay. Within a couple of days, our neighbor across the street caught 18 rats in traps. We all kept after the situation in our own yards and helped each other. These don’t look like average wild rats. They are large, and gray with white bellies. Some of us have wondered if some pets got loose. Last year the problem grew. The rats have been joined by a number of squirrels. At first, we just saw an occasional squirrel 🐿 and thought it was cute. We have been blessed with a large apple tree that produces a great crop of large apples that look and taste like Honey Crisp apples. They are enjoyed by the whole neighborhood and we are happy to share. However, this year the rats and squirrels took very large bites out of 6 Home Depot buckets of apples. That left 3 buckets for people to eat. How can we fight rats and squirrels and get them to leave our apples (and yard). Besides eating our apples, it does not seem healthy to have them in our yard, especially where the grandchildren play. Can you give us any advise.

Like the trap. In my cabin up north during the winter I use a 5gl. bucket with 2 holes across from each other, insert a piece of hanger with aluminum can holes threw center. 3 inches of water in the bottom with antifreeze, add some peanut butter on 2 sides of the can and a branch from the floor to the top of the bucket. Works great. Thanks for the videos.
