When I learned to use keybinds from being a clicker, I switched cold turkey to a Razer Naga with 12 buttons for the thumb. I only use 9 buttons but now I am able to easily press 27 keys with the Ctrl and Shift modifier. I don’t use 10-12 or the Alt modifier but you could realistically have 48 keybinds using only 16 buttons. I hated my left hand being away from the movement keys and this setup worked wonders for me.

Buffs that can be purged should be both clickable and on a simple keybind, make the highest rank of the buff clickable but leave the lowest rank as a keybind, as a Priest healer this helps a ton because DPS love to dispel my Fortitude buff. When I get into a fight rebuffing Fort takes ~500 Mana, something I'd never want to do, but the Rank 1 Fort buff costs next to nothing and enemy casters will, (they won't if they're smart), spam dispel and eat away at their mana. This might not be as relevant for DPS, but as a healer it's a great way to get the enemy healers oom.

Having a mouse with a numpad makes quite a difference, and yes I'm using one aswell ^^... I have my abilities bound to every Fbutton (but ofc using the usual 1-0 etc for frostbolt and other spammed abilities, makes it simple for me). Shift+1-3 also in use, but those are bound to mana gem for example :). Totally agree that abilities that should be used in sequence should be bound in sequence aswell, nova > cone for example 😁. Makes it so much easier! Love your vids, I hope many people will watch the video and learn to bind in a easy way, keep up the good work!

I keybind differently, but follow the same methodology. The more often you use an ability, the easier it should be to spam, and should not have a modifier. Abilities you quickly have to get to at critical moments also get higher priority, but still ordered by how often you use them. If the same ability has to have two different bindings for whatever reason, they share the same key press but with a modifier. Taking highest priority is abilities that have to be used in sequence done so in such a way that it is easy to pull off. I also consider what abilities can be used while moving, and making sure it is comfortable to move while using them. Keybinds across characters should be similar if possible (stun is same keybind between classes, PvP trinket button is the same, etc.) Beyond that, it is personal preference. Hell, since I know what my keybindings are on my characters at this point... I don't even have bars on my screen at all. I use auras that track CDs and they are grouped by function (defensive CDs together, offensive together, etc.) and also reflecting where they are on the layout of my keyboard. If I need to kite something, all of my tools I use to kite are right next to one another. Abilities that do not have a CD (like Frostbolt) don't even have an aura... I use a separate addon to tell distance from targets and the color of the numbers change depending on what I am in range to do. It takes up little space on the screen and everything (including my health bar and that of my target/focus) are all in the same area of the screen. For those of us that are not gods like Xaryu, it really helps you speed up your decision making.

Keybinds are extremely important to have a good system for, or you will never be a good player. And this is true for every game that aren't solely reliant on clicking. The system of setting up My personal keybinds are: 1: Defensive CD's always on the same binds ( For me this is Mousewheel Down + modifiers depending on the CD) 2: Offensive CD's always on the same binds ( For me this is 5 + modifiers depending on the CD) 3: CC and Interrupts, always on the same binds. ( For me this is Mousebutton 4 for CC and E or R + modifiers depending on the Interrupt) 4: Instant cast abilitys that has short cd's , like "Fire Blast" ( For me this is E ,F or G ) 5: Aoe wiht a circle reticule (for me this is Mousewheel Up+ modifiers depending on the Aoe) 6: Most used abilitys and filler spells on their respective binds , Always the same keybinds. (for me these are 1 -4) This system allows for mutliclass keybind setups that makes it very easy to swap between different classes wihtout ever wondering where your important stuff are. you can combine mouseover / normal in one macro, if you mouseover something it goes there, if you don't have a mouseover it goes on your current target - does save some keybinds :)

I am currently on my third iteration of my keybindings schema, and I gotta say it ain't easy, cos I keep mixing all three of them together. The reason for my last switch was because I wanted to have all my Paladin Auras binded fairly close to each other, but for my second iteration, I could only fit 2 of them in the desired spot. Every time I do this, it takes me a couple of days to acclimatize to the new one, and even then I feel like I'm still making some mistakes. Will have to see how my third iteration works tomorrow!

Nice tip about easy to sequence spellchains, gonna consider that from now on :D QERFC and shift+QERFC are my fav bindings tho. 12345 and shift+12345 are too clunky to reach so I mostly use them for heals and other immobile stuff. Recently got a new gamer mouse too, so equipped with a whooping 34 great keys to bind. I'm still shit at PvP tho xD

why to bind away from your finger F keys are far away use the key around your movement key example wasd to move and qertfgzxcvb to keybind also you can keybind mouse wheel up and down instead camera distance, if you want to change camera distance you can use shift mousewheel up or down.

It'd be interesting if we could bind movement to fingers on our mousehand. The problem is our dominant finger is used for left click on the mouse. And our ring finger is generally not used much on our mousehand. I suspect finger mapping is not so fluid to our brains.

If your really not having fun on warlock then I would suggest just switching over to mage right now. I started as a warrior didn’t like it so went to hunter and didn’t like that so I decided to make a mage. My other option was a warlock but mage is just so damn fun to play

Mage is one of the few classes that does not have annoying features that get fixed in tbc/wotlk. Such as: Rogue: ultra slow stealth. Hunter? No auto-shot by right click, sucky range blind spot, pet does not attack automatically in Def stance. Warrior: taunt range? 1 banana. No Thunderclap in Def stance. Druid? No stable ress, no dps, no end tanking. Pala? Don't... Don't mention Pala. There's a reason the was no need to fix annoying things on mages in next expansions. They have none. If one thing, their super long sheep got NERFED later. Mana can be annoying, but that doesnt change in tbc either for mages. Classic is the time for mages to shine!

Because your shift binding is sometimes a totally different ability and it would mess you up to change that. If you start completely new with keybinding your abilities it may make sense to do that macro.

I've got one question (maybe quite a few fellow mages would be interested in getting your opinion on this too - if so please like this comment guys) So the question is; With the release of the PVP update where do I now go to get a decent xp/hr I have been forced to go into Maraudon to do solo runs all the way until level 54 (giving approx 60k xp/hr at lvl 53) now that I am level 54 I will get less than that but farming the zombies in Western Plaguelands is not a viable option as Alliance players being as they are, camp these spots and kill us mages (yes I do have to share this spot with 1-2 other mages 90% of the time). How do I make it past this last stretch and finally ding 60? (P.S. I have measured that I approx get 35-40K XP/hr doing quests and Max 55-60K XP/hr killing the zombies, this is including the many corpse runs)
